Re: Masse negative leak

Hi Nick, We had the same problem. It took long time to solve , because the light was not always ON. The way to find where a bad contact between the minus and the grounding system is, is to start from the main switches near the batteries, disconnect each of the cables while checking the light. Ones you find a cable that if disconnected the is OFF, look for the equipment down the cable and check the contacts and put corrosion x. We found the problem in the forward locker . We had a leak of water from the new Bad! installed windlass rubber deck switches that created humidity on all electrical motors in the locker. Good luck with the challenge. You can call me if you want more info. Ofer Magen A 54 160 2010 Cyprus. +972528795540

Rub rail purchase
Patrick McAneny
I have sent a cross section of my rubrail ,from my Super Maramu to Techno Rubber Industries in Fla. ,they will produce a die and sample for my inspection . I intend to place an order as soon as I receive the sample and final pricing. The die will cost me $450.00 ,the rub rail will run somewhere around $11 per ft. ,roughly $1200. The more boats ordering would bring the price down and I would like to share the cost of the die. The rub rail would be slightly off white. Another owner of a Mango has already purchased from this company and was happy with the service and product. Shipping to Maryland where I live is roughly estimated to be about $200.
So if anyone would like to join me in a group buy ,please email me at , sailw32@... . I will give the final number of orders to the company as soon as I get the sample from them. They will then give me a final price based on the number of orders ,the more the less. I will probably place the order within the next ten days,so please get back to me ASAP. Thanks, Pat McAneny SM Shenanigans #123

Hi Arno,

I checked to bowthruster, I took off the bonding wire but alas no problem there. Tomorrow I will have a check of the windlasses but I did not see a bonding (green/yellow) cable to them. Anyhow it looks like this will take some time. I would have thought the most likely candidates are electric motors with carbon brushes. I am impressed by the Amel engineering In general but the bonding is very crude, stripped off cable hose clamped to pipe work does not really do it for me. However “be to their virtues ever kind and their faults a little blind” comes to mind. Nick Amelia stern to in Finikas Siros whilst the Meltemi howls. AML54-019

Re: Any data on B&G displays
Stefan, Can you tell me what model B&G Hydra you have i.e. Hercules, Hydra, Hydra 2000, etc? Or what year? The reason I ask is the technical information I have on the Hydra 2000 does not show a fuse. Bill

TV Lift Amel 54 - replacing wireless by manual switch
David Crisp
I want to by pass the wireless control of the TV lift on my Amel 54 with a manual switch. Has anyone else done this if so do you have any advice/wiring diagrams?
Does anyone have a wiring diagram or installation manual for the TV lift - Symphony & Sea model 7020 with a Symphony & Sea EC4R phantom control unit. I'm trying to figure out how it works and hence how to bypass the wireless control. -- David Crisp SV Wilna Grace Amel 54 #58

everything is already reassembled but I think about to take photos next time. I opened the processor box, wich is right behind the B&G Hydra 2000 MFD, with the 4 screws and there you can see the little 1 amp glass fuse easily. This fuse protects all 4 display devices and the masthead unit as well. Stefan Mobil: +49 172 7757444 stefan.deerberg@...

Thanks, Arno for clearing this up. And, regardless which model Amel you own, Amel suggests while running using the bow thruster, you always have the generator running with maximum battery chargers ON. Re: A 55 # 9 : Chargeing and mastershunts
Hi Ken,
About the current draw from the batteries. Don’t forget you are running 6 pairs in parallel. So each battery only has to supply 80 Amps to get to 400 Amps. 80 Amps is not excessive, even for a AGM battery. It would be if you keep doing it for 10 minutes or more. So the battery bank is well laid out for supplying that kind of current. Your starter battery has a harder time starting the engine. The problem starts when your batteries get old. At that point the internal resistance of the pairs becomes uneven and you will see some batteries working much harder on the current draw then others. In case of AGM batteries, keep an eye on the individual voltages of your batteries if a pair gets out of balance it may be an indication of a bad battery. Isolate the pair and see what their voltage in rest is. Anything below 12.2 is bad for charged batteries. For lithium the BMS should take care of balancing the batteries and very few people know what these things do in the long run. Regards, Arno Luijten SV Luna, A54-121

Your batteries might not be able to handle the current draw of the Bow Thruster. Take a look at the current draw during Bow Thruster use, and also look at the voltage while using the bow thruster.... Try charging your batteries completely, turn on the Genset, and your charger... Then try the Bow Thruster again. If it works, your problem is found.. Ken SM2K#262 Aquarius
