I'm leaving my boat for july/August in Marina ZEA Ponton D - few berths beside yours.
As I'm noticed that the stern of your boat is very near to the Quay I'm called the marinero to adjust your front/ mooring line. Don't worry.

 time we changed the oil in our propeller leg it was done by
 an Amel engineer at La Rochelle.  He advised me that the O
 rings that came already fitted to the bronze piece were not
 always true and that before inserting
  the new seals you should do a trial  fit of  the bronze
 piece to ensure that the O ring  that came with it was a
 tight fit. As a result I bought about 10 spare O rings. I
 have probably changed the bronze piece about 8 times so far.
 On each occasion the O ring
  that came with the bronze piece was a good fit, but I am

 Therefore, I don’t think this is necessary to have spare
 as you will need to change the entire bronze fitting every 2

I think small debris and whirling or whipping current will cause what happened. I experienced abarnacle on one of the sensors which basically shut it down.

Your experience is exactly the same as ours. We haven't been out sailing for a few weeks now but ours did similar things over a period of a couple months (perhaps only 20 hrs sailing though) then started working well again with dead accurate speed after the last time I dived on the sonars and scraped them clean with a sponge scourer. I do not know why or how but sure am glad it's working well now?

Thanks for the updates on your trip around Fiji. Looks like you are really getting a really good south pacific island sailing season in this year.

Anybody had this experience ??

BTW I found a place in the US that has a circuit board for the processor, I may buy it just in case.

Hi Alexandre,

                                The first time we changed the oil in our propeller leg it was done by an Amel engineer at La Rochelle.  He advised me that the O rings that came already fitted to the bronze piece were not always true and that before inserting the new seals you should do a trial  fit of  the bronze piece to ensure that the O ring  that came with it was a tight fit. As a result I bought about 10 spare O rings. I have probably changed the bronze piece about 8 times so far. On each occasion the O ring that came with the bronze piece was a good fit, but I am prepared in case that should not be the case.

Ho now I understand your question. 
I had it measure once at:  39.5 x 3
Therefore, I don’t think this is necessary to have spare as you will need to change the entire bronze fitting every 2 years and Amel sells it with the o ring.

Hi Alan,

The same happened to me in Teneriffa last year.
Now my Sonic Speed is still working without repair. I think there was some current in the harbour.

BTW I found a place in the US that has a circuit board for the processor, I may buy it just in case.

Even with the best intentions of the Turkey maker, the specs will not be the same.
I learnt it the hard way (thinking the spare bow thruster propeller and hubs I had onboard were from Amel).

The “Bague d’usure” cost 133.70 Euro from Amel, I don’t think it is worth saving a fee euro taking risk with the propulsion of the vessel…
Personally I purchased 3 from Amel, so I am set for some time.

Pail, I delayed answering you because I was hoping someone had the exact answer, rather than trying to measure the O ring. But, since nobody had it, I attempted to measure it. I believe the outside diameter of the propeller shaft is milled to 1.5 inches which is 3.81mm. I measure the O ring at 3.9cm inside, 4.5cm outside, and 3mm thick, but since there are at least 10,000 sizes of O rings, and the O ring is flexible, I cannot be 100% sure.

I believe that since someone other than Amel made your wear bushing that you should have several sizes of O rings. The "correct" size O ring is the one that you can feel seal as you press the wear bushing onto the shaft. If the bushing slides onto the shaft too easily, you will have a leak. If I were making these, I would want to be 100% sure of all of the specifications including the hardness of the bronze. As you probably know. the Vickers Hardness range is very large for bronze. Do you know the Vickers Hardness of the Amel bushing? I do not, and I suspect our Turkish friends did not either. But, if I knew, I would think seriously about two O ring slots rather than just one.

I believe that this O ring fit is crucial to keeping water out of the C drive. I always remove the O ring and place waterproof grease into the slot in the bushing for the O ring, and on the O ring. I think everyone should do this. I showed this to Amel in Martinique. They agreed and now are doing this on all wear bushing replacements they do.

Another very important thing is to clean the inside wall of the cavity that the outside of the Lip Seals press against...and to grease the inside of the Lip Seals and the inside of the cavity.

Ho now I understand your question.
I had it measure once at: 39.5 x 3
Therefore, I don’t think this is necessary to have spare as you will need to change the entire bronze fitting every 2 years and Amel sells it with the o ring.

I am not technical, so I don’t know what the washer does. I just know on the maintenance schedule it says to change it.
It is in between the “oil plug” and the rest of the boat.
The 3 similar pictures come from Amel La Rochelle: show the R Ring and the “BAGUE BS NITRILE”.

Eric we do have it it's an extra seal for the oil plug.
Questions remain the size of the o-ring inside the brons bussing that goes outside of the prop shaft
