I took a piece of copper tubing just big enough to fit over the switch toggle, and crimped it with a pair of pliers. I flattened the other end and drilled a hole through it to attach the float string. It has worked flawlessly for 7 years. Not pretty, but heck, it's in the bilge and it works.

I don't know if you were in the meeting during the overtime portion, but Olivier agreed to come back in 4-6 months for an Amel Question/Answer session. We will figure out a way to get questions in advance of that meeting so that we can make the best use of time.

Re: Main outhaul travller

Nick,

I think you are referring to the main boom outhaul shackle. This shackle is one that was modified by Amel, is available from Amel, and if you go see David Waters in his shop there in Antigua, he can repair yours or make you a new one.

I have had a look on the Antel website to see if I could find a part numbers but looking at ANTAL's website http://www.antal.it/eng/4110SH_en , using the correct part number, which  I believe to be Model #4110/SH, the car looks very different from the one on my boom, so I guess it has been updated. If this is the case, any ideas where I can try and source these small parts, I have tried Defender, ebay and a few other searches but to no avail.

thanks

Where:

Organizer:

Description:

All,

It is my great pleasure to announce that Olivier Beaute will present at our first ZOOM Meeting of 2021. It will be held on 16 January 2021 20:00 to 21:00 UTC. Details:

Many members of the Amel Yacht Owners Group trained on their new Amels with Olivier in La Rochelle. Many of us relied on Olivier as the manager of Amel SAV. And, a substantial number of our Group have used Olivier's surveys when purchasing their pre-owned Amels. As most of you know, after a long and successful career with Amel, Olivier Beaute went into the survey business and established ATLANTIC YACHT SURVEY.

The topic of Olivier's ZOOM Meeting will be "An Amel Survey." His presentation will last about 30 minutes with 30 minutes for questions. Tilo Peters will monitor, queue, and ask Olivier your texted questions.

This meeting will be very good for all of our members.
  • Members who own an Amel will someday face having their Amel surveyed. These members will be interested in how to maintain and prepare their boat for a survey and some of the common things that are overlooked by Sellers in preparation to sell their Amel. This will be important information to know in advance of a survey.
  • Members who are searching for an Amel will need a survey to complete the purchase. These members will enjoy learning more about the survey process, especially the Olivier Beaute survey process. This should be extremely valuable.

I suspect that this meeting may book to capacity and urge you to register soon.

SeaFlo is generally quick to fail Chinese-made.
I’m sure other pumps are made 8n China, but SeaFlo is made to a price point..... Do some research on reviews of the different brands.

1. Is there another pump you have experience with that you would recommend?

Re: B&G autopilot installation

I really like the install in your Sharki. I think it is perfect and gets rid of the chain-drive noise. That looks like the Jefa 150 KgM autopilot direct drive unit type I. I think a Mango or SM will need a Jefa 3600 Nm (375 KgM) autopilot direct drive unit type DD2 (12 or 24 volts).

Hello,

I change last year to Jabsco PAX MAX 24V. Cheap, working well, spare parts easy to get. I take a second on Bord.

Ario,

I think you are on the right track.  The key will be having a good robust way of transferring the thrust forces from the ram to the hull so the design of the bracket is important. Remember: Nothing too strong ever breaks!

it is normally considered best practice to have the autopilot drive attach to the rudder shaft with a tiller arm separate from the normal steering system. Thus is done for two reasons.  It avoids needing to add a hole in the existing structure and thereby weakening it, and in the highly unlike event the existing quadrant was to fail or come loose, the autopilot is a completely redundant system.

B&G autopilot installation

Arlo

Hello all. I have a 1985 Amel Mango hull # 46. I am installing a new B&G autopilot using the B&G T2 marine linear actuator. The space is tight but It will fit fine. I unfortunately need to cut some of the original plywood top where the starboard mattress rest on for access to the compartment where I plan to have a stainless steel support bracket made to support the torque generated forward and aft and side to side when actuated. Also the Ram will not fit down in the space unless I remove some of the mattress support temporarily. I made sure I have clearance for all hard over rudder angles. I also verified my rudder feedback mechanism will fit.

So having said all of that before I start cutting (which I hate doing) has anyone else installed a similiar or same setup in your Amel? Any challenges or issues I need to be aware of? I attached a few pictures as well and will follow up with more pics once the project is completed. The ram is sitting on top of the mattress support but will be under it once installation is completed.

Thanks
Arlo
