Grease for BAMAR genoa furler

ki4jde@...

We are having trouble finding the proper lubricant for the furler, since we need to change the belt.  The grease suggested in the manual is not available in USA.  Can anyone suggest a suitable substitute?

Tom, Have you gone down into engine room while running at 1700 rpm to see if you could determine the source of noise ? See if when you apply power if you can see only part of the engine or transmission move .Could it be a broken motor mount ? I would check all the bolts to see if any are lose or broken . It would seem to me that if  the bushings in the coupling were worn , you would get a clunk when you put it in gear , but not intermittently. To my thinking , in order to get a clunking sound , there must be movement between two objects coming together  producing a vibration which produces the sound.

Good Luck,

Thanks for everyone who weighed in with advice on the very loud knocking/clunking noise that comes at 3 to 5 times a second at 1,700 RPM. No abnormal sounds in neutral or reverse.
We had the boat hauled, the prop looked good; the C-drive bushings as well as the bolt on the keel also were good, but we redid them anyway. Of note, we used to notice some black powder under the coupling between the transmission and C-drive; we now don't notice any. Drove a wooden wedge between the C-drive frame and engine frame, seemed to help a little.
Questions:
Any more thoughts?
Could the black powder have been due to coupling bushings wearing? Any way to examine or fix the coupling bushings without moving the engine? Does anyone routinely replace the bushings?
Thanks again,

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] More Drive Train Questions

Richard03801 <richard03801@...>

First off check to see if all the coupling bolts are tight.
Second is to loosen the bolts and see if the are solid rubber bushing. Before you put the bolts back in pull the coupling half together with wire tied. And proceed with checking engine alignment.
Third is to loosen the engine mounting bolts losses the bolts on the drive flange between the coupling and engine with a long 2x4 move the engine back enough to get a feeler gauge in the gap between engine and coupling drive face. Then with the transmission out of gear measure at 6 and 12 o'clock and 3 or 9 o'clock. If you get more then a few thousandth difference you engine is out of line.
Check the engine and frame mounts if they have collapsed this would be a good time replace then. And adjust the engine to coupling to less than .004"

If you need help call that guy JAS/Joseph to help you. If he's unsure ask him to call me.
We had a similar issue on Its All Good. On that boat it was the coupling.

My pleasure Steve,

I think that every time someone order parts from Amel, he or she could take picture of the parts and send me an email with picture, parts number, Description in French and English, price, location and date they were purchased.

This would exponentially increase the number of parts listed.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Sun Cover in Cocpit

I post some pictures of the Bimini/Winter cover we made after seeing Elauthera. It was excellent this winter, the side panels can be replaced by mesh panels that are see through but give excellent shade. My brother just visit us and he is 198 cm and it was just a few cm to low for him.
I exchange  two block with low friction antal rings to get the main sheet a little bit higher to avoid shafe on the Bimini

Hi Gang,

This is also what we did on Eleuthera and after a winter of living aboard, we have many envious neighbours as we breakfast in our enclosed “sun room”.

To raise the sun cover dodger on SM 209 we added 13" to each of the side supporters with TIG welded SS, and had a new Sunbrella top, sides and aft curtains make in Annapolis. We adjusted the angle of the new legs so the top of the dodger cleared the boom and sheet. The top has a large viewing panel to give good viability to the main. No problems at all. Then you also have the possibility to have forward windows above the hardtop, make them so you kan open them and you can stand up and steer

And a chafe pad There is a cover to shade the wheelhouse when in harbor.

Recently there was some activity on the forum regarding the Amel part numbers.

I just put together some of the parts I order over the last 3 years.

I broke in in various section (C Drive, Bow Thruster, Rudder, Electric Switches, etc.)

When possible I post either the picture I used to explain Amel what I needed and/or the pictures they sent me.

I hope it helps a little. I will keep adding as time goes.

http://nikimat.com/spare_parts.html

With time I will add more (such as Volvo engine, Onan Genset, etc.)

If you have parts number and pictures you would like to add, please don't hesitate to send them to me with Amel or manufacturer Reference, Description in French, description in English, price, location and date they were purchased.

As you can see prices vary a lot if parts are purchase from La Rochelle or Martinique or directly from distributor (such as Great Water).

Sincerely, Alexandre

Bill,

Am I correct in assuming that your 500 amp shunt is the original installed by Amel?
