Ben,

Assuming everything is original and that your Amel has three of the Climma Compact 9000 BTU HVAC units...

The saltwater pump gets electricity from either of the three Climma units. You said "leaking saltwater" and "no power."

Did you have a leak? The pump has a mechanical seal. There are photos of this on the Yahoo Amel Group website...go there, click on photos and in the search box enter Climma. You will see the seal, the pump capasitor and other photos that may help you. I believe I have and some others have mistakenly referred to the mechanical seal as 10mm, but, I believe it is 12mm and a common part. A rebuild kit from Coastal Climate Control (Google them) will probably include the mechanical seal.

If this pump is leaking do not use it. If it is not leaking and will not start the following should be checked in this order:
Turn the pump with a flat blade screwdriver 3 or 4 revolutions...ID it will not turn, you need a rebuild or possibly saltwater is in the winding and the motor is ruined.
If it does turn, try to start the ACs.
If you still cannot get the pump to start, it could be the start capasitor which is inside the box on top of the motor. Test it or if you don't have a tester, buy one and install it. When you have completed this, try to start, and have some start the AC while you check for voltage at the pump...be careful, this is kill-you voltage. If you are not experienced, call a Climma Tech.

When you first see a leak from this pump, take care of it by replacing the mechanical seal and O ring. If you don't, saltwater will ruin the bearing, then ruin the motor. This is a great pump and motor. Take care of it and you will use it for 30 years.

Pump is not stuck.. It turns but there is no power coming in.. I think water on connection caused a short and either burnt fuse/switch or melted the wire somewhere.  I'm going o start with Clima control boxes first then check for wire damage along length of conductor.

Ben,

Also, older Super Maramus have different AC units than yours and mine. Kent's information in this thread probably does not apply to yours.

Ben,

If I remember correctly, the saltwater pump is fed 230VAC from each of the Climma Control Boxes, so assume it is protected that way.

When did you last use the air conditioning?
How are sure the pump is still working?

when I receive my boat, the Calpeda pump was not working, Bill (BeBe) was actually with me and help.
It actually shows on the Amel Owner manual that if the pump is stuck you need to use a screw driver
In short I rebuild the pump with the kit provided by Coastal Climate Control http://nikimat.com/spare_parts_air_conditioning.html
Now, regardless of the temperature I make sure to use the air conditioning at least once a month.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Air conditioning pump circuit

Ben,

If I remember correctly, the saltwater pump is fed 230VAC from each of the Climma Control Boxes, so assume it is protected that way.

Hey Eric -

The Antal part number is ANT4150D, it is 150mm. I am extremely happy with the performance and mechanics however, I did have to replace my existing main out haul track. 5m of part ANT4510. The existing track had a "lip" that the new car would not ride along. The total cost of this project was less than $800USD. I did repair the old car and have that as a back up not and it works well with the new updated track. If you would like I can take pictures of the differences in the cars and track. Let me know if you need anything else.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Air conditioning pump circuit

Hi Ben.  My boat didn't come with a separate breaker for the AC pump.  The installation instructions for the pump do call for a separate breaker, so I added one at the 220 panel when I removed the inverter from my boat.

[Amel Yacht Owners] light fixture for spreader light bulb

Alexandre Uster von Baar

Good morning,

Since I replaced my spreader lights with LED bulb, I now have unused halogen light bulbs and spares which I would like to use… .

One idea came to mind remembering when I enter at night the Channel in Providenciales, Turks & Caicos, there was 1 unmark marker I came very closed to.
Could have use these spare lights.

So looking for (correct name?) “fixture” to hold similar light bulb shown on
http://nikimat.com/light.html

Any clue how these are call? For which model/type of light bulb?

Thanks in advance

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] "Spare" sails

Alexandre Uster von Baar

Good morning Eric,

This is on my list of things to do in Puerto Rico, I have the webbing and will attach D rings and footman to secure it.
It only moved when the boat was unexpectedly healing past 30 degree.

Sorry about the radar, but glad it was only a disconnected connector !!!

Have a great day! Alexandre

Alexandre,I would make a secure
mount for that sewing machine. We had the radar fail
the last day out of Santa Marta. We found that the
constant pounding for 9 days actually disconnected the
connector in the radar scanner.Think what your sewing
machine would have been doing.Fair

"Spare" sails    Good morning Eric,

I have the Ultafeed LSZ-1 (for
straight and zigzag switch) in 230 VOLT with the Pemium
Package
http://www.sailrite.com/Sailrite-Ultrafeed-LSZ-1-PREMIUM-220V-European-Walking-Foot-Sewing-Machine

I store it on against the left
(forward) wall os the nav station.
It is
quite heavy… and won’t move unless I heel at unnecessary
angle (like 30 degree).
I probably should
tie/secure it, but have not.

Sincerely, Alexandre

A questions to you who have made
longer trips type around the world. What are
your advice to
have spare sails
aboard?We
have just
bought
new sails and are now
wondering, shall we
keep the
old sails for
spare
if we by any reason would rip/destroy
our
new sails? We have one Genua in rather OK
condition that
we will probably
keep, but
the main sails need some
stitching but then
it will have
a few years of service left.
Mizzen we will
not keep as not

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Broken shackle on Main Sail car

Hi Bill,

Do you happen to have the model number of the antal slider?

I could not find it on the website that you listed.

Hello Alexandre,

I uploaded a picture of a new car I upgraded my main out haul with. Right now the current size of the car is 110mm. This new car is 150mm. I am very pleased with this set up as it eliminates the use of shackles altogether. If you purchase a new car it will come with a piece of track to unload it on your existing track without the risk of loosing any bearings. The cost was $405USD, not cheap but in my opinion a stellar upgrade. Not to mention 150mm car has an increased load from the 110mm car. I got mine from http://www.mauriprosailing.com

Let me know if you have any questions.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] "Spare" sails

Alexandre,

I would make a secure mount for that sewing machine.

We had the radar fail the last day out of Santa Marta.

We found that the constant pounding for 9 days actually disconnected the connector in the radar scanner.

Think what your sewing machine would have been doing.

Good morning Eric,

I have the Ultafeed LSZ-1 (for straight and zigzag switch) in 230 VOLT with the Pemium Package
http://www.sailrite.com/Sailrite-Ultrafeed-LSZ-1-PREMIUM-220V-European-Walking-Foot-Sewing-Machine

I store it on against the left (forward) wall os the nav station.
It is quite heavy… and won’t move unless I heel at unnecessary angle (like 30 degree).
I probably should tie/secure it, but have not.

Sincerely, Alexandre

"Spare" sails    I did not keep my old sail as
they take lots of space/weight, but I do have a sewing
machine onboard.
http://www.sailrite.com/Ultrafeed-Portable-Industrial-Sewing-Machines
I have the 220 Volt model with the premium
package (in case I don’t have electricity).
It also allow me to make awning, covers, etc.

You will also need
material to be able to repair your sails.

This is only “my” opinion,
you should wait from other more experience Amel owner.

A questions to you who have made
longer trips type around the world. What are
your advice to
have spare sails aboard?We
have just
bought new sails and are now
wondering, shall we keep the
old sails for
spare if we by any reason would rip/destroy
our new sails? We have one Genua in rather OK
condition that
we will probably keep, but
the main sails need some
stitching but then
it will have a few years of service left.
Mizzen we will not keep as not

Re: Bow navigation lights

svperegrinus@yahoo.com

Ours look to be original because of how worn the lenses are, and we certainly haven't replaced them in the last 3.5 years; on the other hand, ours are no longer waterproof, which is hard for the LED bulbs inside.   Not even the starboard  housing on which we replaced the bulb socket-cum-plastic-screw a year ago is waterproof.

When our year-old LEDs fail, we'll revert back to incandescent.  Or replace the entire housings with sealed Hella LEDs, if the old housings/sockets can no longer be used.

Grease for BAMAR genoa furler

We are having trouble finding the proper lubricant for the furler, since we need to change the belt.  The grease suggested in the manual is not available in USA.  Can anyone suggest a suitable substitute?

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] More Drive Train Questions

Patrick McAneny

Tom, Have you gone down into engine room while running at 1700 rpm to see if you could determine the source of noise ? See if when you apply power if you can see only part of the engine or transmission move .Could it be a broken motor mount ? I would check all the bolts to see if any are lose or broken . It would seem to me that if  the bushings in the coupling were worn , you would get a clunk when you put it in gear , but not intermittently. To my thinking , in order to get a clunking sound , there must be movement between two objects coming together  producing a vibration which produces the sound.

Good Luck,

Subject: [Amel Yacht Owners] More Drive Train Questions

Thanks for everyone who weighed in with advice on the very loud knocking/clunking noise that comes at 3 to 5 times a second at 1,700 RPM. No abnormal sounds in neutral or reverse.
We had the boat hauled, the prop looked good; the C-drive bushings as well as the bolt on the keel also were good, but we redid them anyway. Of note, we used to notice some black powder under the coupling between the transmission and C-drive; we now don't notice any. Drove a wooden wedge between the C-drive frame and engine frame, seemed to help a little.
Questions:
Any more thoughts?
Could the black powder have been due to coupling bushings wearing? Any way to examine or fix the coupling bushings without moving the engine? Does anyone routinely replace the bushings?
Thanks again,
Tom Peacock

The plastic base have broken over the years and I have now replaced the 7th one.

It seems when the bow gets buried over and over again the lights break.

Has anyone encountered this problem? Solution?
