Re: Bleeding off air in Yanmar 75 hp

This issue was resolved but... For some reason the hose on the bottom of primary Yanmar fuel filter continues to drip substantial amounts of diesel.  Question is how much should be coming out and can I pitch off the drain hose without negative event.. I'm used to a clean bilge and diesel mess is irritatingly.

Talking to the Pochon fellow in La Rochelle who handles the equipment repair backoffice, I was told me they see fewer issues with Victron than with Mastervolt.

Mind you, Pochon will be happy to sell you either brand.

I recommend anyone who installs either brand to install that brand's LCD information screen.  We have the Mastervolt EasyView and we have configured it to provide a wealth of info/alarms on what the Mastervolt devices are up to, and this was important to ensure we did not cook off our AGM batteries when we first installed them.

To make a long story short. It seems to me that the two Mastervolt chargers installed in the Amel 54 , one 100W and one 40 W are not working after a few years. It was not cost effective to send them to Mastervolt for repair as both of them stopped working on my boat Alma Libre Too. I replaced both of them with 2 Victron chargers one 100W and one 30W. Till now they are working fine but who knows

Thank you for all these answers
Mastervolt is offering me 30% discount to buy a new one but
the Local dealer is not cooperating.

I am leaning buying a smaller Victron available now in Panama and buying a bigger one later to create redundancy.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] installation of dive compressor

Alexandre Uster von Baar

My pleasure, but ask Leopold (SM#69 Yin Yang) how he did his.

Also I gave previously my opinion on the diving compressor.
Since I had one onboard and I want everything in working condition I had it serviced ($2k), but I am not sure I would add one as it is not so easy nor inexpensive to use.
1) every 7 minutes while filling up a tank you have to open valves and it takes 40 minutes to fill up a tank (and is very noisy).
2) have to change the filter every 8 tanks and they have a limited shelf life of 1.5 year, I calculated the operating cost to fill up a tank at about $5 (not including the purchase of the compressor and its big maintenance).
In the Bahamas, Turks & Caicos and even here in Dominican Republic there are stores in many places to fill up tanks and they cost between $5 and $10.
I think it is good if you are in remote places or scuba a lot.
But I do believe it is important to have scuba tanks onboard in case (like it happened to me) you have the chain wrap around a coral head, anchor stuck, etc.

Sincerely, Alexandre

installation of dive compressor

robin.hutter@...

Hi gang

when I bought GrosDoux there was no dive compressor. I intend to change that and buy a Lenhardt @ Wagner LW 100 E1 ECO and install it. Could anyone let me know how Amel installs thes compressors? Size and weight is comparable to a Baur Junior ll.

thanks for any assistance!

Hi Olivier,
Thanks for your explication.
I'll follow your advice and I'll restore the original concept, I am thinking if re-laminate a grp thru-hull or a inox tube. I prefer the grp because the union between same materials is best, in this case which resin do you advice me to use polyester or epoxy ?

Good evening,

I replied directly to Antonio.
The Super Maramus, Santorins and 54 have the same kind of through-hul fitting for the main engine wet exhaust hose: a tube made of GRP where the hose is set inside (or outside, see below) and glued with silicone compound.
In addition, the Super Maramus (probably since 1995) and the 54s have an anti-return flap located in a stainless steel box, right before the through-hull fitting. For these boats, the small piece of hose that connects the stainless steel box to the through-hull may be attached on the outside of the tube, with hose clamps. The box must be bonded to the zincs (yellow/green circuit).

I confirm that this system is very reliable.
It seems that on Antonio's Santorin, the GRP tube has been removed (WHY???) in order to install and glue the hose directly through the hull.
Now the original GRP tube has been removed, I advised him to install a regular stainless steel through-hull fitting as this may be easier to have properly done than the original glassed tube.
Bill, the piece of PVC tube is there because it is used as a support/frame while building the GRP tube and bonding it with the hull. The system is strong because of the GRP, not because of the PVC.

I strongly advise all of you to keep the system as it is, even if your mechanic wants to change it.

Cheers.

Antonio,

The original design on all Amels for many years is as you describe it, except that you did not mention that the flexible hose is reinforced from the inside with a "PVC type" of pipe. You probably did not notice that.

Just because someone says something should be one way, does not make it right. If I were you, I would trust the original Amel concept.

I hope this helps you.

Good Morning,
Yes Bill, in my installation there is nothing !! No thru-hull fixed to the portside, only the tube inserted into the hull and sealed (taped) with a lot of silicon and sikaflex.
Probably this happens when the previous owner changed the engine in 2007 BUT the work was followed from VOLVO dealer in Canet en Roussillon !!???!!  I don't know IF this is original concept or so on....but is so far from my safety idea.

So there IS a thru-hull fitting, in the standard installation, it is just made of fiberglass.  Nothing wrong with that. Its a good system.

The original poster needs to understand what to look for.  IF he is wrong in his description and the fiberglass insert is missing he has a problem.

She is indeed very helpful, that i never doubted at all, nor Amels commitment to trying their best to find us the parts.

But eventually, finding an employee that can figure out what part was on our boats is eventually going to fail at some point as these employees will eventually retire. The process of developing a "parts catelog" by hull number can be something that can be done as people place orders for those parts.

Amel has to have some idea that this will begin to get more difficult as time goes on.

Maybe it is something that one of us can develop via app or a cloud service that we can keep a parts inventory with the pictures, part numbers, and perhaps source.  Might even be a good way to share  modificaitons along with where to get some of the parts.  Ideas?

I would like to add a thank you to bill for the offer.  It is appreciated.  I do value what you are trying to do to keep the good name of Amel and all the help you offer the Amel community.  I do try read your posts as much as I can and learn something new everday.  I do respect your input.

Bill,

Thanks for the info on the marina, as it will save us a few bucks. We are having the same issue with our coupling as Will Stout on Anni B True,'and are hoping to get it correctly diagnosed and repaired in Martinique.

I was hoping we would have the opportunity to meet, and it sounds like we will overlap by a week in Martinique. See you soon.

I saw you were in Guadeloupe and was hoping we would catch up with you. We left Deshaies this morning along with Rascal (SM40?), and are anchored near Pigeon Island for a couple of days of diving. There is a switch at the bottomside,
looking like a half-moon, that you need to slide back to
front in order to turn the unit on and off.

Steve,

We are in du Marin Marina. The monthly rate is about 560 euros including electricity. The weekly rate is 480 euros. To get the monthly deal you have to ask for a month in advance via email.

We will be here until 23 April.

Hi Eric,

I saw you were in Guadeloupe and was hoping we would catch up with you. We left Deshaies this morning along with Rascal (SM40?), and are anchored near Pigeon Island for a couple of days of diving. After that, we will keep migrating south with a plan to be in Martinique on 15 April to have a couple of things looked at by Amel. When are you heading back to your boat, and where will you be headed next?

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] optional television amplifier

Beaute Olivier

There is a switch at the bottomside, looking like a half-moon, that you need to slide back to front in order to turn the unit on and off.

Is this obsolete?

Alexandre,
Can you post a link to just the page
(not the entire book)? I have limited
bandwidth.  I too am curious about this as my TV
reception is intermittent.

Good afternoon,

My SM2K comes with the optional television
amplifier which you can see page 25 or chapter 7.9 of the
Optional Equipment
http://nikimat.com/amel_super_maramu_2000_Optional_equipment.pdf

I don’t seem to see how to
switch it on?
Any advice for trouble
shooting?
Is this obsolete?

Thanks in advance.
