Navnet shutdown after 1-2 hours with diruptor fuse

I had my Navnet shutting down with the diruptor fuse every 1-2 hours. I checked the Navnet. The Black Box (under the seat) is hot, but it was always hot. ( about 60 degree celsius). I opened the top of the Navnet Blackbox and all fan's where working.
So I changed the diruptor fuse on the panel (NAVNET). The diruptor fuse is: Code 7122104 16D (16Amp). Now all is working fine. Just in case someone has the same problem. Ralph Santa Isabella AMEL 54 #144

That's correct Victor. A bit less than we were sailing with before we hove to, because the winds were picking up. Leave the jib sheeted in and tack without changing jib sheets (backwind the jib) then turn the helm hard upwind and tie it off there. Then go aft and bring the Mizzen traveler up at least half way to windward. You may have to experiment with how much jib and Mizzen you have out, and how much the Mizzen traveler needs to be brought upwind. I never could make Kristy slide directly downwind with theain out even a little...she always sailed forward out of the slick at 1-2 kts. Kent Kristy SM 243

Now I know one would assume the problem lies within the gearbox ,and I know owners have removed the bottom of the gearbox with difficulty and have even damaged the cover in the process. Here is what I found. First the interior of the gearbox can be accessed by simply unscrewing the aluminum housing that surrounds the stainless shaft in which you insert the winch handle. I put the gearbox in a vise and the shaft unscrewed easily with a monkey wrench turning the shaft This gives you plenty access to clean and inspect the gears . My gears turned freely without the shaft. The problem (friction ) was inside the shaft itself . I would have liked to remove the stainless shaft from the housing for a good cleaning ,but it did not come apart easily and not wanting to damage it ,I just sprayed gunk between the shaft and the housing ,worked it back and forth ,sprayed more ,work it more and it freed up nicely . I rinsed it out with water ,put a few drops of machine oil in, it and now rotates easily. SM Bow Thruster Linear Actuator Control Box

In cleaning up the bow thruster area of Rascal I found that two of the screws holding the cover on the control box for the linear actuator were heavily corroded. I tried using a screw extractor and then a drill, but couldn't get enough force on them without fear of damaging the plastic enclosure. I resorted to cutting the cover off to get access to the screws. I found a replacement cover that's a perfect fit, and thought others might be interested.
I sourced the cover from Mouser Electronics in the US. A photo is attached. I selected a clear cover since I thought it would look neat, although black is also available.
The original cover says "verobox" on the inside, which might be useful in sourcing a replacement from other than Mouser.
-- I was able to remove the SNT label from the old cover with a razor blade, and it had enough adhesive on it to reapply to the new cover. I used some stainless screws and Corrosion-X in hopes of avoiding future issues. Now we'll have easier access to the fuse in this box if needed. Heave-to
We hove-to three times this Spring before crossing the Stream. Each time 35+kts from the N, 8-10 ft seas. She heaves-to like a dream, slipping directly downwind with the upwind slick preventing waves from breaking on the side of the boat. Only two small waves slapped us on the beam in a total of 180 hours hove-to. Able to sleep, cook, read. Then crossed the Stream in 10-15kts from the SE. In 35+ kts I have a handkerchief of jib and about a third of the Mizzen out with the Mizzen traveler halfway up the windward side. If you haven't experimented it's well worth your time to get a feel for it. Kent and Iris Kristy SM243

BTW, I found a brand new Bonfiglioli gearbox for the furling unit in a small town in The Netherlands. The price was only about $125. Furthermore it came with the shaft installed through theunit with a head piece that mates with the furler. I planned to use the shaft from the unit being removed, but it was seized in the unit. All other gearboxes I have found are in the $350 to $550 range. The Netherlands company is PLC2DAY.com Tele: +31-161-416125. They said that they had one more in stock.
