Re: Slide Hammer Anybody think the 5lb slide hammer is overkill for working on Kristy?
Hi Brent, thanks for the input. That is a lot of tool. You tackle a lot bigger jobs than I'm likely to do! Years ago I launched my lake boat without the plug, and had to jump overboard with a sock to jam in the hole. 80 y/o in-laws were aboard. Water was about 45dF. I'll never do that again! We'll be up in Maine for 10-12 weeks, if borders open up let me know and we'll rent a car and drive up for a few days. Stay safe, have fun, sail fast! Kent and Iris SM243 Kristy

Robert Giroux posted this link. Seems we can get a shaft adapter that should do the job.
Any of these fit your application? https://www.amazon.com/s?k=8mm+to+10mm+Bore+Stainless+Steel+coupling& Knowing that I can now go from 10mm to 8mm with this coupling, I am going to start my "experiment" to see if I can get Oliver's brushless motor solution to work. I will post my success or failure soon - fingers crossed. Until then, let's hope we can keep our "cool" with the Flojet pumps........even if we have to carry some spares. I just ordered 3 more. Thank you for this information. I have a few months as the lithium battery install will take some months. I will email GN Espace and ask about a smaller unit. I have only found the Horizon 3 made in Italy. Looking at other forums, people have been asking about this combination for a few years. We looked over the 60 and 50 last year in Cannes. Very nice, you should enjoy the 50. Very Best Barry and Penny “SV Lady Penelope II” Amel 54. #17 Sainte Anne anchorage Martinique

New Thread on A54 fridge pumps (ATTN: OLIVER Vela Nautica)
Scott SV Tengah
This is a new thread to continue the overly long thread at:
https://amelyachtowners.groups.io/g/main/topic/a54_fridge_circulation_pump/34255404?p=Created,,,20,1,60,0::recentpostdate%2Fsticky,,,20,2,0,34255404&jump=1 ___________________ OLIVER - can you post the video of your fridge pump installation? Also, it seems your link is for a 10mm shaft motor. Can you verify it's the same link you ordered your 8mm shaft motor from? _____ Jamie, good thing you mentioned to me that the shaft on the pump Oliver linked was 10mm. I asked the AliExpress seller if he has the exact same motor with an 8mm shaft. Perhaps Oliver posted the wrong link or perhaps they changed the spec on the motor. Hope Oliver sees and responds to this. This is mindblowingly annoying - I am fine paying to get a solution as I'm now a bit nervous about leaving the boat for more than a day in case the pump dies and all my frozen food goes to waste! I emailed my contact at March Pumps to determine the shaft spec on their centrifugal pump motors to see if we can cannibalize the brushless motor part to use with the flojet pump head. I was in conversation with him prior about using their 12v 893-07 pump, but he stated that it's probably not a good idea since I cannot guarantee constant prime. This is the case with my freshwater system but he even said it's the case with a SW system due to boat movement. Here's what he said prior when I suggested using the full March 893-07 pump: "The setup you have there wouldn’t make our pumps very happy. My concern would be that first pump in the line right there at the “Y” split…..when that turns on it may siphon water backwards out of our pump and suck it dry….you could install a check valve on the outlet side of the pump but it would have to have a very small pop open pressure as the 893-07 will only generate about 4.5psi when its dead headed at 0 flow.
If the setup is mounted all below the waterline then the lines should prime with water naturally and you shouldn’t have to prime them…if the pump would be above the water line then a check valve would need to be installed to help keep it primed. The initial prime you would have to get creative in doing so….a lot of people will install another “T” with a valve and a fitting to hook up a garden hose….you they can open the valve and turn on the hose until its all filled up and turn the valve off then unhook the hose. The flo-jet pump I believe are all rubber vein impellers and are self priming so they are different then our pumps and wouldn’t be a direct swap over between the two." The first pump he mentions is the domestic FW pump. His check valve/T valve solution adds complexity, which I dislike, but if it is our only potential solution then we might have no other choice. If we have 5 more years of sailing, it's insane for me to carry 10 Flojet pumps as backup. Scott 2007 A54 #69 SV Tengah http://www.svtengah.com

Re: A54 fridge circulation pump
I'll move the conversation to a new thread, but quick responses to close this one out. Please respond on the new thread entitled: "New Thread on A54 fridge pumps (ATTN: OLIVER Vela Nautica)"
Arno - what I like about Oliver's solution, if he can share info and we can replicate it, is that it uses the same pump head/water moving parts from the Flojet. I have two remaining Flojet pumps so I will place one complete original flojet pump next to the Frankenstein brushless pump. On my A54, two Flojets are placed side by side because I think Amel knew they die quite often. With the proposed setup, if the brushless pump dies in the middle of nowhere, I can quickly switch things over from one pump to the other, as I do now. Robert - we need a 10mm to 8mm "D" shaft reducer. Know where we can get that? Mark - I have the Marco pump for my FW system with an expansion tank. You NEED the expansion tank otherwise you will get mysterious leaks due to overpressure from the fw toilet water solenoids slamming shut when the pump is running. I got the 2l stainless one. As it relates to using a Marco for the fridge pump, another A54 Garulfo tried and the Marco overheats and dies even faster than the Flojet. So no go there. Brent - My understanding is that, despite the insulation replacement, Oliver is now getting 75% duty cycle now that he's in the tropics (versus single digit duty cycle in Portugal?). Regardless, if there's a brushless pump that doesn't die every 5-6 months, I will crawl on my knees to get it (kidding, sort of). I will say that my galley freezer/fridge has been turned off now that we're near reasonably well stocked grocery stores. This made a huge difference in energy consumption and pump duty cycle. The A54 setup has the water hoses daisy chained, whereas Frigoboat wants you to run them parallel. Earlier, my saloon freezer never really got that cold. I assume it's because by the time the cooling water got to it, the other two units had already heated up the water quite a bit. Now I just run the aft most front opening fridge and the saloon seat freezer. This makes a huge difference as the insulation on the galley top loading freezer is terrible as Oliver mentioned. Ours was soaked because the fridge would accumulate a lot of condensate water at the bottom and the junction between the stainless "box" and the PVC pipe that allows the compressor lines was NOT sealed well. I know this because after I cleaned out the box, water was bubbling UP from the insulation into the box at this junction. I sort of fixed it by applying sika291 at this junction and also filling the inside of the PVC (where the compressor lines run) with sika291. I had used the same expanding foam as Oliver prior but that simply got soaked and moldy. -- Scott 2007 A54 #69 SV Tengah http://www.svtengah.com

Hi Carina, Oliver posted a very good 2 part video series on YouTube about the whole process. It isn’t for the faint of heart but it really does seem to be a worthwhile upgrade to extend your pump life and time on batteries. Enjoy!

Hi Barry - this may be of interest - shortly to be launched by GN Espace - designed to fit in the same space envelope as the Force 10 gas and ceramic hob versions that fit the A50 and same dimensions as their OceanChef 3 gas variant . I believe it is GN who package the Miele units fitted to the A60s and have now produced this more compact unit of own manufacture with electric oven and induction hob

Re: A54 fridge circulation pump
Mark & Debbie Mueller
The Marco pump works great as a fresh water pressure pump and is much quieter than the Amel OEM water pump. However, it is significantly noisier than the Flojet. You will wan to start thinking about some sound insulation when you use it as a raw water pump for the refrigeration system.

I saw your post about taking the leap into the brushless motor world, hoping to solve the pump dilemma. I will tell you I finally got the parts Oliver recommended - after almost 6 months. Unfortunately the motor he suggested has a 10mm diameter shaft. We need an 8mm shaft, so I cannot use that unless I create a reducer of some sort or order a different motor. I will try to get the controller working for curiosity, but without the ability to connect the motor to the pump, I will likely have to abandon the project and just keep buying Flojet 4106 pumps (the newer version I believe, vs 4105 series). I did notice that March Pumps offers a centrifugal pump driven by a brushless 24V motor. Although it is a bit expensive and only suitable (in its normal non-self-priming service) for salt-water cooling where the pump remains flooded, it might be worth buying it and using only the motor. If it works it would stop us having to buy many $100 motors that go bad in 6 months or less. The motor looks as if it will work directly with a steady 24V supply - no custom controller needed. Of course, the shaft would have to work here as well. If we can get the shaft to mate, all we would need is a relay to turn on the pump via a 24V supply in the engine room and the Frigoboat 12V output signal. May be worth a shot.................. No problem. All of the old Yahoo messages, files, and photos can still be found here on the new forum. You just have to use the "search" function. Search Messages, Files, and Photos separately using keywords like "engine alignment" and you will find a ton of great information.
Here is a link to the File folder with the information that I uploaded: https://amelyachtowners.groups.io/g/main/files/Yanmar%204JH3-HTE%20Alignment%20Information Last, it is customary on this forum to have a "signature" at the bottom of your post with your name, your boat's model and name, and your current location. It not only makes the forum "friendlier" since we know who we are talking to but it also helps to know what specific boat you have and where you are in the world. Another Amel owner might just be in the same port as you and willing to lend you a hand! You can set up this signature to happen automatically whenever you post in your Profile. Good luck with the alignment! -- Mark McGovern SM #440 Cara Deale, MD USA
