He just died. I read on FB. That’s a real shame.

That's one of my big worries when we start cruising next year, medical coverage that's affordable. Rest of world policies seem to be the only affordable options. I see the cigna geo explorer plans, is that what people use?

Ian Park
I’ve just done this job on my Santorin yesterday.
I took the sink off. Two screws on the front and four more on the bulkhead under the mirror. It was then a very simple task. Only problem I had was the older fittings on the 12mm copper pipes. But you can put a conversion compression joint on each one to convert to the current flexible tap connectors. I had to grind out the hole for the tap base for a slightly larger size. Good luck Ian Ocean Hobo SN96

cruisers of "Brick House" need help in Capetown
Hi Amelians, I don't know if you heard that the circumnavigating couple on "Brick House" are in trouble in South Africa. Patrick Childress contracted coronavirus and has been in ICU for 21 days. He is receiving excellent care there, but the couple's insurance company, Azimuth Risk Solutions, suddenly declared that they covered nothing during a pandemic and denied all coverage or compensation. A friend of the Childress's started a GoFundMe page which has all the particulars and updates. As a COVID survivor myself, I reached out to Rebecca Childress to offer my experience and comfort. Her husband, Patrick is still hospitalized in ICU but has some slight improvement. It would be wonderful if more sailors could post moral support or a little $$ on the GoFundMe page. I heard the details of the denial of claim by Azimuth Risk Solutions, the Indiana company who sold the Childresses their international medical coverage. I was shocked at the sudden changing terms and reduced coverage this unethical company is trying to pull off ex post facto. Rebecca's father has contacted attorneys for help but the entire affair has added incredible stress to a heartbreaking situation.
We've had a lot of valuable information shared about boat insurance here already, now maybe some of you can gain more info about health insurance in general and Azimuth in particular. Richard Vicem 58 "Songbird" New Haven, CT

Re: Converting my Amel 54 to lithium batteries: what I did, what I like and what I don't like (after one year of full time live aboard use)
Scott SV Tengah
Lior -
My A54 did not come with a 2500w inverter, so I didn't have the 50mm2 cables for that. Mine only included the 100a and 30a Dolphin chargers. Since I had it all apart to install new 50mm2 cables, I decided to just install 2x plus and 2x minus 50mm2 cables for the Quattro 5kw. That way, I could ensure the length was exactly the same and there was no initial "differential corrosion" which could impact resistance across the 4 cables. Probably overkill, but the cost was minimal. Then I re-used the 100a Dolphin cables (can't recall size, but I trust you) for the Skylla-i 80A with the assumption that Amel sized the 100a Dolphin cables correctly. Regarding using 30A Dolphin cables, there are calculators out there you can use to determine whether, given your run distance, the voltage drop is acceptable. Since I was already installing two new pairs of 50mm2, I decided to oversize it and use the 100A Dolphin cables and just leave the 30A Dolphin cables as unused backup. In the same manner, I ran a few extra runs of Cat6 ethernet between the engine room and the companionway...as backup. I'm glad I did as one of the Cat6 cables failed after I epoxied the hole where the wires ran! I installed the Skylla-i 80a for a few reasons: 1) So I can charge with more current to minimize genset run time. Lifepo4 is able to accept full current until nearly full. 2) Backup in case the Quattro dies 3) Gives me flexibility to feed 240v/60hz power into the Skylla to charge the batteries and then use the Quattro (unconnected to external AC) to invert and provide 230v/50hz to the boat. But primarily for #1. Hope this helps. Hope this helps. -- Scott 2007 A54 #69 SV Tengah http://www.svtengah.com

Re: How To Replace Aft Head Sink Faucet
Thanks for the quick reply. My message didn't explain the problem correctly. My bad.. Having rebuilt my house I do know how to replace a sink. My dillema is gaining access to the underside of the sink to make the pipe connections. I may have mixed up the real issue since I'm not on the boat. If it should be obvious, don't worry about it. I'll figure it out. I was just trying to get a heads up prior to arriving. Regards Bill Shaproski S/V Pacific Cool

Main Sail Outhaul and Furling Gearbox Bonfiglioli VF44P1-70 P63 B14 B3
I have a Super Maramu from 1995 OO30017SM141. The mainsail furling gearbox apparently failed and needs replacement. The desision to remove the unit was made by my maintenance guy since I am on the west coast and the boat is on the east coast. I ordered a new one and when it arrived it was not from Bonfiglioli and was not interchangeable. I haven't been able to find one that could be delivered by 20 June which is when I need to have it. Does anyone have a serviceable gearbox they want to sell or know where I could get one deliverd to Florida by 20 June?
Thanks in advance for any help. Regards Bill Shaproski S/V Pacific Cool

Re: Converting my Amel 54 to lithium batteries: what I did, what I like and what I don't like (after one year of full time live aboard use)
Lior Keydar
Dear Scott
First, thank you very much also from me for sharing your project. As you see, it is very interesting for so many people. I am also thinking about replacing the batteries to lithium and would go your way. About the electric cables, I saw that you need 2x 50 mm2 (2x plus and 2x minus). I think that both exist already. One pair for my 2500W inverter and one for the 100A Dolphin charger. They both 50mm2 (or more). The cables for the 30A are 40mm2. - did you install the Skylla-i 80 amp just as a backup? would the 2x 40mm2 of the Dolphin 30A be enough? - what did I not understand correct with the electric cables? Thanks Lior, A54 #18

Re: diruptors
Breakers are typically single pole or double pole and vary in amp load capability. Most of the AC breakers on your SM are double pole, switching when you are connected to EU type power, the Hot Brown wire, and the Return Blue wire. You have at least 1 double pole DC breaker for the SSB. If there is a short in a Diruptor circuit, the breaker will not reset. In the US the AC double pole breakers are typically used to switch 2 legs of 110-115VAC. The Neutral (White) is typically not switched. If you are using US type power, the SM AC breakers will switch both US type legs of the AC power as long as you wire the US type AC shore power plug correctly. Bill
