Teun,
You're using the VEConfig software to adjust the inverter low voltage cutoff? I have successfully changed that on the Inverter tab "DC input low shut-down". Then you have to "Send Settings" to the Quattro otherwise it won't save them. If you are still having problems, I have a contact with Victron that is quite responsive. Maybe Dutch people don't like other Dutch people? ;) We've had over 30 emails back and forth. FYI he suggested 20v as the input low voltage cutoff and 21.5v as the input low restart. Additionally, try here. This may be even better. They're almost as helpful as the AYOG :) https://community.victronenergy.com/index.html -- Scott 2007 A54 #69 SV Tengah http://www.svtengah.com

Re: Washing Machine and 50 htz
As many of you know, I've been running lithium for 18 months full-time now, mostly in the tropics. We have 960w solar on the arch. We considered the Quattro 8k and decided not to for a few reasons:
1) The 5k barely fit. See attached photo. The 8k is 50% heavier at 45kg. https://s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/groupsioattachments/29189/33126257/47890/0?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJECNKOVMCCU3ATNQ&Expires=1588706340&Signature=FwI3DgnIE%2FEbyKAFUU1yWCrzB9g%3D&response-content-disposition=inline%3B+filename%3D%2220190907_103355.jpg%22 2) I have run it for 18 months now with the vast majority of the time in tropical heat. The admiral has been known to run the boiler, microwave and toaster at the same time. That is nearly 5000 watts total, around 200amps. We have never had issues with power tapering. This is a rare load and even when you have it, it won't be for too long. Additionally, the engine room is often not that hot at anchor, given we don't run the generator often and the surrounding sea (25-28c on average in the tropics) cools the room quickly. We've even figured out how to run the scuba compressor on inverter. 3) The 5k has 30w no-load power consumption. The 8k has 60w no-load power consumption. 30w/25.6v = 28.125 additional amp hours per day for having the 8k over the 5k. Given my 960w solar arch produces about 200-250AH per day, choosing the bigger inverter means 10% of the daily solar output is "wasted" just to keep the 8k turned on. That said, I've figured out how to put in a simple switch to turn off/on the inverter without having to run the Phoenix panel, which consumes power. But even then, you're still burning over 2.3 amps just keeping the 8k on. See #50689 In fact, I tweaked the jumper settings in the amel installed MasterVolt 800w inverter (under the chart table) to reduce no-load consumption (5w now) and try to run it whenever I need to use less than 800w. 4) The 5k requires TWO PAIRS of 50mm^2 wires for a 0-5m run. The 8k requires TWO PAIRS of 70mm^2 wires for the same run. I can't recall the exact specs for the original Amel installed wires, but we couldn't use them (we had Dolphin 100amp and 40amp chargers) as they were too small for even the 5k. We ended up using the Dolphin 100amp charger wires to connect the second charger (Victron Skylla-i 80amp) For us, we had to break out the epoxy between the passage and the engine room. It's actually not that hard - you can do all of it from the passage. Just remember to reseal it. I admire your goal of trying to minimize genset usage. We've focused on the same as we're not-so-closet environmentalists and since installation of all the parts, have focused on reducing the "background drain". On the Atlantic crossing we ran the genset 60-90 minutes a day, with both the 120amp Quattro and the 80 amp skylla chargers running. On our recent Panama-Hawaii 4848nm unplanned passage (thanks coronavirus!) we ran it 45 minutes every 2nd day. That was all from optimizing consumption. The little things add up. -- Scott 2007 A54 #69 SV Tengah http://www.svtengah.com

Re: Top loading galley fridge/freezer used as a fridge: No?

We've been drying the fridge out for a week now and a few drops of water STILL come out. It bubbles out at the interface of the PVC pipe where the condenser copper lines go down to the compressor and the stainless. I think that there is a bad seal between that PVC pipe and the stainless box.
Oliver's video showed very wet insulation there so I don't think my problem is isolated. Further, I was getting water buildup in the bilge under the sink. Since turning off this galley top loading fridge, I no longer get water buildup. I surmise I may need to replace my insulation and reseal the connection between the PVC pipe and the stainless box. Perhaps even replace the PVC with a stainless tube that is welded in? Oliver - did you do anything to improve the seal between the PVC and the stainless box? -- Scott 2007 A54 #69 SV Tengah http://www.svtengah.com

Re: Xantrex Link 10 Battery Monitor
Hi Paul, on BeBe the Victron BMV712 went into the same round hole in the 24v panel that the previous Link 10 had been in. The BMV came with a shunt and it uses a cat 5 cable with quick connect ends. I used the old Link 10 cable to pull the new BMV cable through from behind the battery compartment over head (conduits) to the cabinet over the galley sink where the 24 volt panel is mounted. The new shunt with a quick connect terminal has the same dimensions and battery connections as our previous shunt. The Victron Venus GX is mounted just behind the 24 panel in the same cabinet. It requires a power source, and then the in/outs from your BMV, MPPT, MultiPlus, ... So that is what should determine its location. Let me know if you have other questions. Hi Dan,
How difficult was it to install the install of the Victron BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor ? How difficult was it to do the wire run from the shunt to the new monitor ? Do you have any suggestions in doing this upgrade project ? I hope this finds you both well. Thanks Paul Paul in sv Aramis, SM 444, currently in the San Francisco Bay, California

Re: Washing Machine and 50 htz
Arno + Mohammad,
The original owner changed in 2014/2015 the water maker from OEM DESSALATOR to SPECTRA NEWPORT II. The electrical unit with the 2 pre-filters was installed on the portside behind the ONAN. He also installed a SPECTRA Z-Ion system which was also installed on the port side behind the ONAN; this Z-Ion system claims to extend the fresh water flush period to every 30 days iso every 5 days. So really no room at all on the Port side. Also – the VICTRON 5000 is huge.
Anyhow – when I came on the boat the VICTRON 5000 was hanging on the bulk head right above the non OEM bilge pump. The highly knowledgeable AMEL coach (who joined me on board 😊) and I decided to bring all the pumps etc. back to OEM and also decided that this VICTRON had to go somewhere else. The best place was in that hanging locker as it is very, very close to the batteries set up. There is absolutely no place in AMELIT’s engine room for this. In fact, my engine room is so crowded with additional equipment that another AMEL 54 owner helping me in VANUATU became frustrated. He was able to be with 2 people at the same time in his engine room – impossible on AMELIT.
Finally, when you decide between MASTERVOLT and VICTRON:
I have a very small issue/question on my VICTRON programming which forces me, from time to time, to run the genset only for 1 or 2 minutes to get over 26 volts (actually it is 26.08V) in order to activate the inverter. I asked several marine electricians in NEW CALEDONIA and VANUATU; we tried changing the setting in the VICTRON software to no avail as the setting defaults to min. 26.0V. 2 weeks ago I sent an Email, partially in Dutch and partially in English, to VICTRON AMSTERDAM and didn’t get any reply. I called AMSTERDAM this morning and spoke to a lady and she told me that VICTRON doesn’t do any problem solving and I have to contact a dealer. Problem is that most dealers are not very interested helping as they didn’t sell you the unit. I will have this addressed when I am back on the boat in AUSTRALIA but it is disappointing that VICTRON didn’t even react to my (polite) Email and only seems to be focused on selling and not so much after sale service. Or maybe they are just typical Dutch 😊 hahahahahaha.

We’ve had good experience with MasterVolt. The main reason we were considering Victron, was the capacity. I believe MasterVolt goes to 3500W per unit. I just checked and I see that they do have the ability to gang multiples to increase available wattage. One option may to be start with one and add a second, if necessary, later.

OPACMARE gangway not rotating / after sales support
Ulrich Michael Dangelmeyer
Hi All,
and anyone who has an issue with Opacmare gangway. Our 54 is from 2008 and so far only in the Mediterranean, mostly in Southern greece. So the gangway is often used, stern to. In 2017 a hose connection for the extension cylinder burst. All other connections were also heavily corroded. Poor quality. We tried to get support through Opacmare Aftersales in Italy directly, but nobody was interested in us. We were referred to the representative in Athens, but he was only responsible for sales. Service or repair should be organised by ourselves, but this was not possible through our local craftsmen. All hoses and hydraulic connections would have to be repaired. I then got in touch to Maud, who then passed this on to the French Opacmare supplier (to the shipyard) and made maximum pressure. Then a technician from Athens moved by the plane (with all parts, swage, oil etc.) on our island and repaired everything in stainless steel connections in 1 day. cost 1k €. Originally we should calculate with 4-6k €. Outrageous. But after that some screws of the fairing were still missing. I wrote again to Opacmare in Italy to order them. Again no answer. At the international bootshow in Düsseldorf I went to the Opacmare booth and complained personally. The responsible sales manager took care of it himself and sent the screws directly to us. they were already in the after sales and got stuck there again. the AS is just incredibly bad. Conclusion: try Maud for help and support or sales manager Mr. Almbayed (mohamad.almbayed@opacmare.it). Hope that helps you. Stay safe and well. Ulrich „Soleil Bleu“ /A54 #088 <>
