I managed to get the following reference after removing the strut. 14320310-300N. Unfortunately no brand referenced.

Any suggestions of suppliers in usa or elsewhere ?

This us for the too loading fridge feezer in the galley not saloon.

Re: Run 2500w inverter always even on shore power?

Arno Luijten

Hi,

You are faced with the difference in 50 and 60 Cycles from the mains power. Most appliances with a pump run bad or not at all when you are running at a different cycle-count as where they were designed for. So if your boat is build for European shore power (230V/50Hz) you will find that several devices will run poorly on US 240/60Hz. Normally Amel puts stickers on those devices. For our boat it's the washer, dishwasher, watermaker and micro-wave that can't run on 60 cycles.
So using the inverter to supply those with power can work, depending on the consumption and type of device. Typically the washer takes a bit too much from the inverter. If you have the 2500W Mastervolt Mass Sine, it's actually only 2kW continuous, really annoying. Our Siemens takes approx 2200W when heating the water and turning the drum. Devices with large start-up current (watermaker) will also have problems.
I'm not sure if the switching logic that Amel put in a 55 is the same as in our (late) 54. If so then the inverter does not provide power if shore power is attached. These are just a bunch of relays in our case,  nothing to configure. On our Amel we have basically the same problem as Saint Martin also uses 60 Cycles. I'm still thinking about a solution without messing up the original design too much. As there are a few other things in this area I want to solve I'm still in doubt between a bigger inverter or a inverter/charger instead of the 2500W inverter.

Cheers,

I won’t be aboard to tell witch model I have until 04 August. If ordering before then, then please cancel my order for 1 unit. Otherwise I’ll reply further on Wednesday. Thanks for doing this for the group,

Re: A54 top loading fridge /freezer strut

You can try https://www.ressorts-sodemann.fr/ They even speak your native tongue!

You will need to measure the old one and determine the end-pieces required. The opening force appears to be 300N judging from your reference. That seems a bit high though, basically 30 KG force to keep the lid open. You could try to guesstimate the amount of force needed to open the lid from the point where the strut attaches.

Responding to Gerhard, yours seems a brilliant solution but from the photo I cannot understand if the system is gimballing or you  are using it only in the fixed position

Run 2500w inverter always even on shore power?

Billy Newport

Edited

Hi,
I'm on shore power mostly now, a US to Euro pigtail given the boat 240v at 50hz. The Chilla AC works, dishwasher too but the washing machine (LG Direct 7) is giving problems. It starts up and washes but the drain pump makes odd noises (sucking kind of) and kicks in occasionally and then back to sucking. The net is that it really doesn't want to drain the water out of the tub.
I'd been looking at replacing the drain pump but tried this morning to run it on the generator rather than shore power and it worked perfectly. Now, working once is by no means a measure of success but it has me thinking if anyone else has troubles like this.
My old boat ran everything on a pair of 3kw Victron inverters so it didn't matter what I connected to shore wise, it was just charging. Can I run the "comfort" appliances on my 55 always on the inverter even when on shore power. I think the engine room has the Amel device to switch between gen/shore power and inverter but is it programmable/configurable?

Re: tb/AMEL owner or AMEL familiar professional near COOMERA QLND AUSTRALIA/AYOG

Colin - ex SV Island Pearl

Hi Teun

Let's see if you find anyone closer first, but if not then I could potentially help. The only issue with me is that I am around 100km away, up in Scarborough, and I don't really have any other reasons to go down that way normally. At present here in QLD, we are virtually COVID19 free, so I can travel down there without restrictions at present, as and when my work commitments allow me time to do so.

Presently I am looking after other international owners boats here in Scarborough Marina, and also assisting one international owner to sell his boat too, which is relatively very easy to do since it is right on my normal morning walk route. If you (or any other future Amel owners sailing into Australia later this year) had it here in Scarborough or Newport Marina's in the north of Brisbane, then that would be far easier for me to assist, however, as we discussed back in October, having it out the water at Boatworks should also certainly give you good peace of mind that it does not need new antifoul paint, wearing bearing replacements and also lines to be checked weekly.

As you probably know I owned an Amel Super Maramu 2000 for 9 years, and just last year completed a circumnavigation in that but sold SV Island Pearl II recently on our return, so am completely familiar with all the specific maintenance requirements, and am also very familiar with the 54 too.

See if you get any offers from anyone closer first, but if not I would be happy to help as and when my time permits.

Best regards
Colin Streeter

AMELIT has been on the hard @ THE BOAT WORKS YARD in COOMERA since December and I would like somebody to supervise/inspect if the additional preparation for longer storage is correctly being done as well as from time to time check on her. I have some arrangement with an outfit on TBWY but I want to make sure things are truly being done.

AMELIT was inspected this weekend and found to be in perfect shape but that person happened to be visiting BRISBANE but lives too far from COOMERA to do on a regular basis.

Any suggestions/advice is much appreciated.

I have broken a few of these switches over the years. I have done this by reaching over the generator to retrieve something stored behind the genset.

I received a quote from my Onan dealer and on Amazon for around $90- plus tax which is ridiculous.

I tracked down the OEM manufacturer and the cost is about $23- plus a one time set up fee of about $50- I plan on ordering 2 of these. They stated that they make this for ONAN. If anyone is interested please let me know and I can order them for you $33- each plus USPS of about $8.00.

I will order the switches within a week.

The problem is not the thermostat, because I have the same condition or worse when I am anchored (heating by the engine).
The heater's cold water inlet hose was very hot, deducing that the hot water is returning.
I installed a check valve at the heater inlet, and the temperature problem was solved, however the pressurization pump is activated every 10 seconds when a tap is turned on (especially set to cold).
I will remove the check valve to prevent damage to the pump.
Any idea?

If the idea of Bryce is to place the new set on top of the existing frame, the width shouldn't be a problem. If the set is a square, the trouble is with the depth as te current ss frame is only  550mm and then, leaving some clearance for safeguarding your fingers, you run into the crash bar. This at least on my boat

as you can see from my photo above the 2 flame Silvercrest inductive cooker from Lidl fits perfect.
The space is 590 and the device is 580 mm. So no problem at all.

Re: Useful addition to Volvo D3-110 engine's sea water circuit

Arno Luijten

I was looking a bit more in detail at this strange difference in having a filter or not and later it became clear to me that Volvo Penta only issues this filter to engines connected to AquaDrives, a special tailpiece for planing motorboats. These things have the waterintake integrated in the sterndrive. This why VP puts the filter after the pump.

Nevertheless the filter is still a useful addition for inboard engines with a normal strainer.
