Hi, I would need to double check but I would agree with Oliver re the triactic used as an SSB ASN receiver. At least the marking on the cables behind the shower light on Garulfo suggests that. Hello, The triatic stay is used by the SSB ICOM M802 radio to receive DSC emergency trafic. Its only receiving on this antenna. The M802 needs 2 antennas. For regular transmissions it uses a backstay or the whip antenna. If you do not connect the second antenna you will not hear "nearby" stations in distress. Great idea – as having to remove all the sails, ropes etc. every time from the sail locker in order to lift out the step/cover in order to secure the locking pin stopped me more than once from doing so.
Another thing to look at when back on the boat.
This COVID19 lock down here in USA is causing me a lot of unexpected problems in the form of discovering all kinds of things to do on the boat when I come back. 😊 😊

Well this might explain when I have almost out the complete 100 meter new chain I purchased in NEW CAL last year while the counter says I only have 70 to 74 meter out. I thought I had been short delivered in NEW CAL - although I got a complete drum.
Will measure when I come back on the boat and then need to adjust the settings I guess.

Locking the bowthruster on a A54on passages

As you all know Amel recommends using a locking pin on the bowthruster when making passage. Although good advice not always practical as you need to open the cover in the sail locker. If that thing is full of stuff that can be quite the nuisance.
For those that have a GRP version of the cover, the following may be of use to you. When you look at the cover there is a recess on the top side. I'm guessing Amel was planning the very thing I now did but did not do it at build time because of costs. Basically I made an access hatch that enables you to lock/unlock the thruster without removing the cover. It's a bit tight but you can just reach the pin and put it into place or remove it. Wow – 10 leaks. Clearly I must check better when back on board. As mentioned above in Dutch; you make me feel guilty that I am not caring for AMELIT as meticulously as you do with LUNA.

Thanks - this helps a lot. I don’t recognize the switches in your attachments so that indicates that my switches also have been replaced. That matches my impression of the original owner that he wanted everything to be in order/perfect/the best but regrettably also meant several unnecessary NON OEM (AMEL) equipment changes.
But I will verify when I make it back to the boat.

The new ones are bigger (see Bill's pic). They need a 43 mm diameter hole. Maybe you can check the diameter of yours from below.
Also, Amel keeps track of the boats that have already been updated. So Bill's advice to call them is right and on the safe side.
The letter informing about the recall is from 2011, so maybe all A54 are eligible. By that time, the replacement set was probably Lewmar, as far as I know. But according to Maud, Amel no longer have a partnership with Lewmar. So it is Harken now.

I did all my switches in 2016 after I bought the boat in 2015. The switches that Bill shows the photo of is correct. I was in Marseille and Amel Hyeres would have done the change at no charge. I decided to do it myself and Amel Hyeres sent me everything, drill bit to make the joke bigger, wood position block to drill the hole, electrical connectors and sealant.

Paul, a bit more information is needed to give you some help. How many hours are on the engine now? How many hours are on the oil in the crankcase now? Did you get maintenance logs at the purchase that showed good habits regarding regular oil changes? What were the months and hour intervals if so? Did this problem started immediately after a new oil filter and fresh engine oil were installed? Or was it several hours or days later? Testing with a mechanical/non-electric oil pressure gauge confirmed that what you were reading from the helm mounted instrumentation was correct ? Did oil pressure increase with higher engine RPM in a linear pattern, not increase at all or very little, or immediately increase by a great deal? This is very important to know. Does the engine burn more than a liter of oil in 50 hours of running time? Did the Volvo dealer immediately suggest engine removal with out any other testing? Did anyone suggest that you have a spectrographic engine oil analysis performed ? Do a web search on this. Not expensive and extremely telling about the engines internal mechanical condition. Slowly decreasing oil pressure is most often an indication of internal engine wear that increases/opens the tolerances/gaps between components like bearings and bearing journals. I will await and respond to your answers but I would strongly suggest changing the engine oil filter and if nothing changes then obtaining a spectrographic engine oil analysis before the engine is removed. The oil analysis will, for sure, tell you plenty about the engines’ relative health. Much the same as getting your blood work done before a visit to your medical practitioner.

I have a Volvo D3-110i-C with low oil pressure. I’m told by the local Volvo dealer that the engine will have to be taken out in order to replace the oil pump. I’m wondering what other factor may cause low oil pressure. Any opinion on this would be most welcome.
A bit of history on the problem. I changed the oil and oil filter after 188 engine hours which was 3 years. I then started getting low pressure warning after reducing from 1100rpm to idle. I checked the oil level and topped up to the top of the mark. After a couple of days I started getting low pressure warning whilst running at 1100rpm (to heat water). This was confirmed when the engineer attached a pressure gauge.

It is a bit curious that this problem arose after your oil change. I wonder if the viscosity of the oil that was used for the change was lower than the original oil in the engine before the change? Maybe you bought the correct oil the oil added was mislabeled or thinner than indicated? Maybe try another oil change, possibly with a different respected brand to eliminate that variable. Cooling issues could also cause lower oil pressure by thinning the oil, does the engine seem to be warmer than normal? Oil pressure relief valves can stick freeze closed due to corrosion if moisture gets into the oil pan, I have personal experience with that one. I have never seen one stick open which could cause low oil pressure but maybe.. Did your engineer record normal oil pressure with the engine warm and the RPM up to the recommended level? About the switches. As far as I know the replacement was changing the original Lewmar switches with Harken switches. Easy to see as it says so on the switch. On our Amel this was done, all switches were Harken when I bought the boat. In the meantime I've replaced all the deck switches with a completely new model from Lewmar once more because the Harken switches are having problems with water-ingress. The way the switches are made is they "sandwich" a rubber piece between a top ring and and the lower body. The rubber piece is actually the part you push on to activate the switch. However the top ring is not form-stable and becomes "wobbly". The three screws compress the rubber to the underlying switch-body. However the area between the screws after some time does not press on the rubber underneath because of the the ring loosing shape. It then allows water to enter the sailing locker. This was actually the 4th or 5th leak I repaired in the sail locker (out of 10 leaks... mostly because of failing sikaflex). See enclosed picture. Regards, Arno Luijten SV Luna, A54-121

Let me tell you what I know.
Amel installed insulators on the Triadic Stay so that the stay wire could be used as a Weather Fax Antenna. As far as I know, every SM and 54 had this "antenna." The coax wire terminates behind the Nav Station on an SM in a loop of extra cable and in a 54, behind the shower light fixture, unless, of course, if the first owner of the SM or 54 had Amel install a Weather Fax.
In my experience, the AM/FM antenna is on the main mast top on every "unchanged" SM and 54. It is a PVC VHF-like antenna, and in fact, when I installed an AIS transceiver and needed an antenna, I used the AM/FM radio antenna and substituted a rubber car antenna which I mounted behind the nav station cabinet. Of course, I had to change the connection plug to use the cable for my AIS.
