Re: Xantrex Link 10 Battery Monitor
Hi Paul, on BeBe the Victron BMV712 went into the same round hole in the 24v panel that the previous Link 10 had been in. The BMV came with a shunt and it uses a cat 5 cable with quick connect ends. I used the old Link 10 cable to pull the new BMV cable through from behind the battery compartment over head (conduits) to the cabinet over the galley sink where the 24 volt panel is mounted. The new shunt with a quick connect terminal has the same dimensions and battery connections as our previous shunt. The Victron Venus GX is mounted just behind the 24 panel in the same cabinet. It requires a power source, and then the in/outs from your BMV, MPPT, MultiPlus, ... So that is what should determine its location. Let me know if you have other questions. Hi Dan,
How difficult was it to install the install of the Victron BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor ? How difficult was it to do the wire run from the shunt to the new monitor ? Do you have any suggestions in doing this upgrade project ? I hope this finds you both well. Thanks Paul Paul in sv Aramis, SM 444, currently in the San Francisco Bay, California

Re: Washing Machine and 50 htz
Arno + Mohammad,
The original owner changed in 2014/2015 the water maker from OEM DESSALATOR to SPECTRA NEWPORT II. The electrical unit with the 2 pre-filters was installed on the portside behind the ONAN. He also installed a SPECTRA Z-Ion system which was also installed on the port side behind the ONAN; this Z-Ion system claims to extend the fresh water flush period to every 30 days iso every 5 days. So really no room at all on the Port side. Also – the VICTRON 5000 is huge.
Anyhow – when I came on the boat the VICTRON 5000 was hanging on the bulk head right above the non OEM bilge pump. The highly knowledgeable AMEL coach (who joined me on board 😊) and I decided to bring all the pumps etc. back to OEM and also decided that this VICTRON had to go somewhere else. The best place was in that hanging locker as it is very, very close to the batteries set up. There is absolutely no place in AMELIT’s engine room for this. In fact, my engine room is so crowded with additional equipment that another AMEL 54 owner helping me in VANUATU became frustrated. He was able to be with 2 people at the same time in his engine room – impossible on AMELIT.
Finally, when you decide between MASTERVOLT and VICTRON:
I have a very small issue/question on my VICTRON programming which forces me, from time to time, to run the genset only for 1 or 2 minutes to get over 26 volts (actually it is 26.08V) in order to activate the inverter. I asked several marine electricians in NEW CALEDONIA and VANUATU; we tried changing the setting in the VICTRON software to no avail as the setting defaults to min. 26.0V. 2 weeks ago I sent an Email, partially in Dutch and partially in English, to VICTRON AMSTERDAM and didn’t get any reply. I called AMSTERDAM this morning and spoke to a lady and she told me that VICTRON doesn’t do any problem solving and I have to contact a dealer. Problem is that most dealers are not very interested helping as they didn’t sell you the unit. I will have this addressed when I am back on the boat in AUSTRALIA but it is disappointing that VICTRON didn’t even react to my (polite) Email and only seems to be focused on selling and not so much after sale service. Or maybe they are just typical Dutch 😊 hahahahahaha.

We’ve had good experience with MasterVolt. The main reason we were considering Victron, was the capacity. I believe MasterVolt goes to 3500W per unit. I just checked and I see that they do have the ability to gang multiples to increase available wattage. One option may to be start with one and add a second, if necessary, later.

OPACMARE gangway not rotating / after sales support
Ulrich Michael Dangelmeyer
Hi All,
and anyone who has an issue with Opacmare gangway. Our 54 is from 2008 and so far only in the Mediterranean, mostly in Southern greece. So the gangway is often used, stern to. In 2017 a hose connection for the extension cylinder burst. All other connections were also heavily corroded. Poor quality. We tried to get support through Opacmare Aftersales in Italy directly, but nobody was interested in us. We were referred to the representative in Athens, but he was only responsible for sales. Service or repair should be organised by ourselves, but this was not possible through our local craftsmen. All hoses and hydraulic connections would have to be repaired. I then got in touch to Maud, who then passed this on to the French Opacmare supplier (to the shipyard) and made maximum pressure. Then a technician from Athens moved by the plane (with all parts, swage, oil etc.) on our island and repaired everything in stainless steel connections in 1 day. cost 1k €. Originally we should calculate with 4-6k €. Outrageous. But after that some screws of the fairing were still missing. I wrote again to Opacmare in Italy to order them. Again no answer. At the international bootshow in Düsseldorf I went to the Opacmare booth and complained personally. The responsible sales manager took care of it himself and sent the screws directly to us. they were already in the after sales and got stuck there again. the AS is just incredibly bad. Conclusion: try Maud for help and support or sales manager Mr. Almbayed (mohamad.almbayed@opacmare.it). Hope that helps you. Stay safe and well. Ulrich „Soleil Bleu“ /A54 #088 <>

You are trying to access the WaterPumpOverhaul.pdf file at the Yahoo website. Yahoo has deleted all of our files and photos. However, we moved everything we had to our new site. If you go to https://amelyachtowners.groups.io and login, then go to FILES and search on WaterPumpOverhaul, you will find the document. Here is a direct link to the document: https://amelyachtowners.groups.io/g/main/files/Onan%20Genset%20Information/WaterPumpOverhaul.pdf but remember you will need to be logged-in. Bill

Re: Washing Machine and 50 htz
Hi Mohammad,
By the way, adding/replacing cables between the battery compartment and the engine room is very difficult. Amel sealed the duct between the two compartments with epoxy. This duct sits in the passage to the back under this hump at the bottom on the Main Cabin side. It can be done but you will need to be extremely agile to get to the place behind the fuel tank to open up the duct. Alternatively you could route the cable via the ceiling in the Galley. In that case I would run a set if thinner cables instead of one thick one. That is easier to accomplish. Regards, Arno

Re: Washing Machine and 50 htz
Hi Mohammad,
Consider the Mastervolt, power derating only starts at 40 C (Mass Combi Pro). Don't get me wrong I don't really like Mastervolt as a company but they do turn out some solid products. The Mass line of products is quite nice, maybe because they don't make them themselves, some other company in the Netherlands actually designs and manufactures them. Re: Washing Machine and 50 htz
Mohammad Shirloo
Hi Arno;
Thanks for the information. I am still unclear as to exactly how the cables are run and, as you suggested, we will be checking to be sure they are terminated correctly. Our goal is to eliminate the need to run new cables. At this point, I am also unclear as to how big a job it is to route new cables. Our plan is to investigate routing, once we get onboard this season.
Keep in mind that the wattage specified is in ideal conditions at 25 degrees C. Most of our engine rooms will see much higher operating temperatures in the usual cruising grounds. For example, a 3000W Victron inverter/charger will only be able to supply 2200W at 40 deg C and 1700 at 65 deg C. Also, running the inverter at a lower percentage of the max rating will result in a longer lifespan and cooler operating temperature of the unit.
The reason why the larger inverter power can now be considered, is the availability of Lithium technology that allows the kind of current needed to power an inverter of this size, without stressing the batteries. Since we plan on replacing the next set of batteries with Lithiums in 2-3 years, this upgrade makes sense for us. The ultimate goal being the ability to power all of the systems on board from the batteries (albeit not at the same time) and have enough solar power to keep the Lithium batteries charged, with the occasional need to run the generator, based on weather and power usage.
Happy Sailing;

Re: Washing Machine and 50 htz
Hi Teun,
What a strange place to have this Inverter. I vaguely remember this was the spot where Amel would put the isolation transformer if that was requested. As Mohammad said before the "normal" place for the inverter is behind the genset. This Victron inverter may have been to big for that spot though. Personally I find these huge inverters scary, the power-draw is immense and they really kick the batteries hard when running for longer time. Also the electronics are under tremendous load, not the easiest thing in a marine environment. Even the 3500 I'm considering for Luna seems high to myself. With Lithium batteries this may be easier but I'm not at that point yet. Regards, Arno Luijten SV Luna, A54-121
