Date
tb/BRISBANE area marina & yard/AYOG

Teun BAAS

I am leaving around November 10 2019 from NOUMEA to AUSTRALIA; probably north of BRISBANE and south of BUNDABERG.

Can anybody recommend a safe & affordable marina where I can leave the boat for 8 weeks or so (Dec 12, 2019 thru Feb 12, 2020) and then have her, in the vicinity, hauled out for copper coat anti-fouling plus additional 2 yearly A54 maintenance. One of my previous AUSSIE crew, living in the area, is suggesting leaving her on anchor as it is free but I prefer a slip or on the hard while I am in USA.

Somebody here in NOUMEA suggested MOOLOOLABA QLD – I have no clue 😊

I am flying out of & back in (with a lot of luggage) BRISBANE so will need to have access to transportation to & from International Airport.

Any yards; trades people in the area familiar with AMEL?

Appreciate your help & suggestions.

Best Regards Teun

Balloner use

JOSE PRIETO

Good morning everyone, I would like to introduce myself to the group.
My name is Prieto, almost retired airline pilot :), working and living in Spain - Alicante.
Last month I bought an Amel Supermaramu 2001 232 series, but unfortunately the former owner simply delegated handing over the boat keys to a person who knew nothing about it. I'm learning by banging my head on the walls. I have learned reading the manuals, watching YouTube channels and especially reading what is written in this forum. I have plans to take Bill's course in the US next year if I get some slack on my roster.
I will start my participation in the group with a silly question, for those who master the boat well.
How to use balooner? The manual is very succinct and only mentions the use of the two nylon pieces.

Is salt water or what? The color probably is rust.

Jose

Thanks again for the silicone seals.

Would you please confirm that the seals are intended to replace the 'hard' lip seal below the upper foam seal in the orientation as per attached photo's?

Many thanks

Brackets vary by SM model/year but the rubber inserts should work.  Amel had us remove the gearbox and motor after lending us the tool and we used them to service and rebuild the gearbox and electric motor.  We replaced them ourselves.

The rubber insert is shown before being tightened down.  Note that we used Tef-Gel anti-seize on the shaft and key before reassembling--we will follow-up with a report when we next remove the shaft from the gear box.

Hello again Gerhard!

That does look factory and compliments the design.

I have no doubt I won't be able to restore the original, however it is a wide low design which will mean some modifications. Something that at some point I'll give thought to. Unfortunately my layout looks somewhat more cramped than yours.

Hi James;

We purchased our replacement directly from Dessalator. We purchased 10 meters of hose (For two replacements) and 4 extra fittings. A fairly straight forward job, but Dessalator is not the most cost effective way to go, as stated by others. What I like about their setup is, if caught out in a location without access to a hydraulic shop (or on passage), you can easily change out yourself. Typically, you can just cut a bit of the hose and reinstall the fitting without the need to pull and route the new hose.

Happy Sailing;

Good evening everyone.
I have a Dessalator 160L/hr, and I'd like to order a spare set of high pressure hoses with fittings.
Online, I am finding these to be quite expensive with stainless steel JIC fittings.
Can anyone direct me to a good vendor for these (with fittings? )

You can contact me directly at jamescromie 'at' yahoo 'dot' com in order to avoid posting any commercial information (not sure if that is against the forum rules)...

Hi Mark,
We had guests who had trouble w slipperiness of bumper.  I put a 2" non-slip/reflector tape on it. It was helpful, but the non-skid granules abraded the paint off our new bumper.   I will try PlastiDip when back on the boat in May.

James,

Just bring a hose and connector with you to a hydraulic shop. Most shops stock the hose and if you are lucky, they will put the fittings on for you.

Eric, or anyone else -

Do you know what the ID is for the hydraulic hose in order to use the field serviceable / re-usable fittings?

There are quite a few different specs for hydraulic hose, but I assume it is the single steel wire reinforcement (SAE 100R1) spec.

Perhaps there is no need to have new fittings, since it is the hose that needs to be replaced at 5 year intervals, more or less.  Is it quite simple to re-use the old fittings on new hydraulic hose?

Thanks,

James,

I am glad to see you are enjoying life.

We will be around St Maarten at the start of the season. If you happen to want to bang your way back that way.

A few years we sailed from Santa Marta to Guadeloupe.

What a miserable passage 25-35 on the nose for 8 days.

I had my hoses duplicated at a hydraulic shop in St. Maarten. They used aeroquip hose and  swage on fittings. They are much less money than the do it yourself ones that come with the watermaker.

Just make sure that the steel braid in the hose is stainless..

The hoses are usually rated at 5000 psi. Hydraulic shops make hoses for bulldozers, etc. You can find them everywhere.
