AQUARIUS SM2K #262 - Completed a circumnavigation 2007 under the ownership of "Jemp". Β At the time she was named "Aquarius IV" due to the laws of Luxembourg stating no two boats can have the same name. Β We dropped the "IV" because USA does not have this requirement. Β
Jemp wrote a book about his circumnavigation, and Amel gave his book to the first 40 owners of the Amel 54 when they took delivery. Β Aquarius is currently 1/2 way into her 2nd circumnavigation. Β

Re: USA only insurance
So Gary Golden is Al Golden's son. I believe Al, whose company was IMIS, started the Jackline policy underwritten by Markel Insurance Co. Then (likely with Gary in the mix) IMIS merged (or was sold to) Gowrie and offers the Jackline policy thru Gowrie. Not sure if the IMIS brand is still there. Anyway, it sounds like Gary has now gone off with a new product-branch-marketer-whatever to offer another substitute product.Β Certainly worth looking into as Al and Gary are both stand-up professionals.

Passarelle
Hello!
We have a Hydraulic Passarelle, which was very nice to have in the Mediterranean, we spent two seasons there mainly in Greece and Turkey, but not very much of use when we were in the Caribbean or cruising the US East coast. We now have Kerpa at our home base in Lagos, Portugal, preparing for a slowΒ trip around the globe (7-10 years), assume we will spent most of the time at anchor, we do not fancy marinas that much. The Passarelle is a bit in the way when maneuvering our hydro-generator. So thinking ofΒ taking it away, it is probably 20 years old as old sa Kerpa, rather sooner than later it will require maintenance. So to you ho have cruised around the world, what do you recommend? Will I have any use for it or should I take it of the boat? It adds to the weight aft as well. Do not bother to much about effect onΒ resell value as I plan to have Kerpa for at least 10 more years. Our SM is US flagged and has been insured by Chubb for many years. Broker detail below. The policy is very good and our stolen dinghy claim was paid in full quickly. Also I keep the boat in Grenada and have in water coverage up to 12.30 degN.year round.

Aquarius is also covered by a Jackline Policy. Β We "believe" Jackline has a good policy.... Β But, we have not had a claim, and I don't believe you really know the quality of your insurance until you have made a claim. Β Thus, I don't want to find out the quality of our Jackline Policy!

Re: B&G H3000 & B&G H5000 Amel 54 and Amel 55
Jamie Wendell
My Amel 54 (#44) came with the sonic speed sensor hooked up to a B&G 2000. It seemed to work OK.
I then replaced the B&G 2000 with the new 5000 unit. The real advantage to all of this was the ability to tie into my NMEA 2000 bus and see STW on all my displays. I also replaced the original depth (only) transducer with a new airmar/Maretron unit so that I could read the sea temperature and add paddlewheel functionality. That required enlarging the hole and some reconstructive surgery - not a big deal really. I then contacted B&G to try to understand how I could also use the sonic speed sensors, and they gave me a wiring schematic. Unfortunately, I have never been able to make it work with the B&G 5000. I am not sure if the sensors failed somewhere during the upgrade, or if the schematics are not correct, as it didn't seem to match my installation. I finally gave up, using now only the paddlewheel, which is a mixed blessing, as any growth on the paddlewheel kills the unit until you clean it - not simple in the water, or on land for that matter. Has anyone been successful in making the sonic speed work with the new B&G 5000? Thanks, Jamie A54, Phantom #44

SV Island Pearl II - sm#332 - Sold - Welcome new owner John Facci
Effective 9th March 2020 SM #332 "Island Pearl II" was sold in Brisbane, Australia to a lovely Australian couple,Β John & Jane Facci.
We would like to extend our huge gratitude to all here who have helped us so much via this forum over the past 8 - 10 years, and also say a sad farewell to the countless wonderful Amel Owners who we were so privileged to meet, often in delightful anchorages around the globe, as we circumnavigated between May 2017 and November 2019. This is an amazing community, and we know that the new owners, John & Jane will be warmly welcomed here once they start posting and become more involved in the Amel community.Β Β As for us, having absolutely enjoyed a comfortable and totally trouble-free circumnavigation in an Amel SM, don't be surprised if we re-appear as Amel owners again some 5+ years down the track when hopefully we can get time again to do more sailing in areas we have not yet explored.Β Also, since we have received so much from this community and love the Amel brand so much, to the extent that my free time permits, and/or the current Australian virus lockdown in Australia allow, I would be most happy to assist any Amel Owners here who may cross the Pacific to Australia (Brisbane or Bundaberg) in the future, and who may need some free local Amel Owner knowledge for any issues at all such as the safest and cheapest places to leave your boat whilst flying home, finding good local trade persons to fix things, and even if you decide you want to sell in Australia's normally pretty good market for luxury cruising yachts. Simply contact me at colin.cruisingpoint@....Β and I will do what I can to help you. Best regards Colin (& Lauren) Streeter Ex owners of SM #332 Island Pearl II Scarborough, QLD, Australia
