This is from the iridium go page. I have the same antenna as shown and same place, cable runs through the pipe where also the BLU/SSB is running and unit is at the cart table. The external antenna is a little sensitive to people sitting at the backseat and leaning too much over the reling and when throwing the lines while getting to the harbour. Eric, I need to remove 20 some years of paint. Do you remember the name of the product you bought from Home Depot ? Was it meant to be used on fiberglass? Have any idea as to the man hours to strip your boat. Thinking I may hire a helper or two and tackle it myself.

After 16 years I had the bottom of Kimberlite cleaned down to the gelcoat. I did not want to use any form of blasting. I had the yard use a chemical stripper available at Home depot to remove paint down to the gelcoat. It took time and multiple applications but it worked and the bottom came up quite clean. I think the paint we removed weighed somewhere between 3 and 400 pounds and it was ablative paint.. I then had the yard apply 4 coats of interprotect . They then applied a hard epoxy blue paint and then 2 coats of black ablative paint. worked great . We hauled this year after 2 years and the bottom was beautiful. I would start from the furthest cold water tap. Disconnect the fixture and connect a hose that you can use the dock water. Disconnect the hose from the pump. Put a hose into a bucket so that you can see if anything comes through. Looking for a small piece of plastic.

I just ordered last week the Reckmann furlers.
Did as good as possible research on both options and found out that even when the Reckmann are almost double the price compared to Bamar that Reckmann is probably the better choice. A 54 owner which has the new Bamars EJF for a few years on has boat found out that they having serious corrosion. It's difficult to find out how serious the corrosion is because only Bamar can open the units to service. After this came to my ear I made the decision for the Reckmann's. The quotation which I got from Bamar was € 16.846,= ex. VAT and from Reckmann 31.464,= ex. VAT On this prices comes VAT, the transportation and installation. Scott, I reread your message and saw you have your panels in parallel - do you have blocking diodes at each panel? These would be necessary to prevent current in your open-circuit situation. If you have blocking diodes (not the same as bypass diodes) then you are OK.

Hi Scott, open circuiting the panels, as you said, means no current and no hotspots/damage. just wanted to clarify, the switches are between the panels and charge controllers, NOT between the controllers and the battery? (If the latter, you should make sure you shade the panels first before you open the switch. depending on topology, some charge controllers do not like getting their output open circuited under load.) Seems like the former so you're OK. now the bypass diode issue is different, in partial shading, bypass diodes should *bypass* shaded modules and reduce panel hotspots. the diodes should be sized to carry a lot of current & not get damaged. another issue for another time. happy crossing kelly + ryan SM233 Iteration Boston

Also use additive in my fuel – don’t have (much) soot at all but that might be bcoz I have the D3 H version which apparently runs more efficient than the D3 C. The soot I do have is from the ONAN.

I have the antenna on starboard side of solar arch. The NEW ZEALAND marine electrician ran the cable thru the starboard conduit to the nav station. Unit is in a IRIDIUM GO bracket at the NAV station but can easily be taken out of the bracket. Reception is fine – taking it out and having the unit on deck does NOT necessarily improve satellite reception.

I used an existing hole in edge of the deck. I also installed the same compression fitting in the hole through the bulkhead into the rear cabin. This allows the slightly oversized hole for the cable to pass. It took most of the cable length I had (probably the same as you) to reach the nav stations.
We are not are of any issues with the signal. Used it half of last season and the last few months if this season across the Caribbean from Panama to the DR.
We never touch the Iridium unit itself except to turn it off once in a while. We have a 5 USB port charging block there for keeping all of our other devices charged up as well.
It was not that difficult on an SM. Just a few tight turns around the aft hanging locker.

Agree that NEW CALEDONIA is NO problem at all. I sailed for about 18 months around NC (still own a mooring there 😊); during 2018 had a bunch of AMEL parts come in and even imported a complete new VOLVO D3 engine w/o the slightest problem. Even in VANUATU things went flawless when I imported parts from USA, all new sails from TURKEY as well as the OCTender from NEW ZEALAND, But, so far, AUSTRALIA is a complete different experience.
The frustrating part is that the AUSTRALIAN authorities (ABF) agree with the YACHT IN TRANSIT concept but I have yet to find a custom broker experienced with this procedure.
On another topic, but still related, if any foreign owned boat considers selling or even have the boat listed for sale (on the internet or overseas) when calling or sailing in AUSTRALIAN waters you will have to pay the import duty REGARDLESS if the boat will ultimately be sold to another non AUSTRALIAN and/or leaves AUSTRALIAN waters; and AUSTRALIA reinforces this vigorously and have officers checking websites for any boats for sale. ABF will ask you several times, when they come on board during clearance, if you plan to sell the vessel; this is also one of the reasons they want you to report the position of the boat every 3 months. I had heard this from other sailors in NEW CAL as well as in VANUATU and although I have no intention of selling AMELIT it was reconfirmed when a fellow A54 owner intended to sail to AUSTRALIA and sell his A54. We were planning to buddy boat to AUSTRALIA until I suggested him to verify this information; he did and then changed his destination to NEW ZEALAND.
