Hi Everyone,

as I am sure many of you are aware, there are big changes happening in the boat insurance world. My previous insurers are tightening up and it looks like single handed sailing, which we all know is a breeze on an Amel, may not in future be covered.

Does anyone know of a good company that will provide single handed cover for a Maltese registered Super Maramu 2000 in the areas of the N. Atlantic, Caribbean and Pacific please?

Regards

Ian Shepherd

This problem is not specific to the Yanmar it happens as well with the Volvo. Before replacing the solenoid I would recommend you to check the starter relay which may be faulty.

I have also had intermittent problems with shut down button. So far, if the
engine fails to shut down I just try again a minute or two later and it has
subsequently worked. I have had no problem with starting.
Please let me know what Amel recommends for this problem.

YANMAR ENGINE PROBLEMS

I had the same problem. the amel mechanic in the canaries found that
the black starting relay on the port side of the engine was
defective. no problems since that time. it is not the starter motor
solenoid and not the valeo gold colored solenoid, but a black yanmar
relay.
fair winds,

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] ICW and mast height

Joel F. Potter <jfpottercys@...>

Hi David,

Masthead height, not including antenna, is 65' 7" at middle load. Having
sold many many boats here in Florida that headed North, I can tell you that
I have never had any client say the I.C.W. was fun on an almost 7' deep,
almost 69' high (with all the antenna) sail boat.

I will pass along the recommendation of one sage client, "save the I.C.W.
for when you are old and have a trawler. 10% of it is interesting, 90% of
it is boring, plan on about 70 miles a day, max, and don't EVER run at
night."

You will not fit under Norfolk, Virginia bridge,

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Joel F. Potter

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] ICW and mast height

Hi David,

most of the bridges are now 65' clearance. The SM has an air height of 20M or 65.6167979 ft to be precise. I did risk it and crept under some power cables in the Canaveral barge canal to get to Titusville to watch the shuttle take off. My FM and VHF antennas brushed 3 out of the 4 overhead power cables even at low tide. I certainly would not risk it again, especially with a solid bridge.

Good luck

I have a Super Maramu (1995) and plan to head up the East Coast of
the USA next year. I plan to sail offshore from Fort Laurderdale up
to Charlestown but use the ICW from just below Cape Hatteras - am
told this is a nice section of ICW. I am getting conflicting
messages from cruisers I have spoken to here in the Caribbean. Does
anyone have some factual data or actual experience with regards
whether an Super Maramu can fit under the bridges on the ICW?

Krassopoulos Dimitris <dkra@...>

I had the same problem and I ask Amel to help me without any reply yet. It
seems that perhaps it is a problem with the shutdown solenoid as it stays
closed and it does not allow the engine to start afterwards. The problem is
not consistent on my boat but I start the engine in advance just in case I
might have a problem. I am waiting for the Amel reply and post it to you
asap.

Re: Minwax urethane finish & Eno manual

Stephan Regulinski

John,

With this like-new propane locker, try glueing two plastic washers to
the door where the bolts come through and the plastic nuts screw on.
This will protect your stunning new finish and make you a lifetime
member of the compulsive maramu maintenance maniacs group.

Can you scan in your Eno manual and post it somewhere? I would love
a copy, but being "out there" mail is a little cumbersome.

Re: Riviere Salee In Guadeloupe

Stephan Regulinski

Gary,

As to the wash-down pump. I have had Amel replace mine twice under
warranty. I dissambled both pumps and found the failure to be the
same, the pump body cracks at the point where the outlet pipe screws
into the base. This is a plastic part and needs to be redimensioned
here or replaced with metal. One of the Amel LaRochelle people
confirmed that these pumps always fail at this point. When the time
comes to replace this pump at my cost, I will choose a different
brand.

Sorry, no insight on your low pressure pump for the water maker.
