Bridge Clearance - Nassau harbour

rbenven44 <no_reply@...>

Hi,
Has anyone taken a Super Maramu under the two bridges in Nassau
harbour? The clearance is supposed to be 68 ft. and 70 ft., but the
cruising guides differ on this, and before trying it, I want to check
actual experience.

Thanks,

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] In Boom Furling Systems

john martin <symoondog@...>

John, Inboom furling is the best way to go on a re-fit. It will give you more sail area, more roach, better shape, and a much better performing boat. It is expensive, you will need a new boom and you will have to fabricate a tract for your slides over the existing slot in your old mast. Inboom furling is the wave of the future. In case of any failure all you do is raise and lower the sail same as we used to do. You can also place full length battens in the sail. Amel will eventually install it on their boats, the price will go up, but so will the performance. Also remember that in a blow you want to bring the center of effort down low when you reef, inboom furling realy does this.

Does anyone have any experience with retrofitting with an in-boom
furling system?

We have an Amel Mango with a single spreader mast and are considering
furling options.

Dear Goran
I didn't find your listing? , May I ask about your asking price?
I think it might be a bit over our budget since it's as new as 2003

Ove

Well, our Super Maramu #396 is still for sale. Details are available
at www. Boats.com. (Search for "Amel" then sort by year ). Look for
2003 model in the name of Bengt Ebesson.
The price is reduced and furthermore since the boat is not yet listed
with any broker we can consider additional price reduction. Take
contact.

Kind Regards

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Electrolux fridge

Roger Banks <roger.banks@...>

Hi Ivar

I gave my experience as recently as December. I'm travelling now so cannot give you a better user-group reference. Your condition sounds like voltage drop, like mine. If your batteries show good voltage but your fridge indicates inadequate voltage, you should try replacing the whole circuit of cabling to and from the compressor. If you don't do this, a new fridge may suffer the same problem.

I have some brown gelcoat on board though of the same colour as the rub

Electrolux fridge

ivarmylde <mylde@...>

Good morning,
My Electrolux fridge gives red light on the lamp which should indicate
low voltage, but batteries are OK. thus the fridge are not working
properly. According to Electrolux, Sweden they believe it cannot be
repaired since the fridge is from 1991 and they do not hve the spares.
Amel tells me they cannot deliver same fridge any more and I must
modify to fit another fridge.
Have anyone of the Amel owners had same problems ? Can the fridge be
repaired - or can I buy another type of fridge which fits in the gally.
Fridge Electrolux RB2405 115 liter 24 volt.

Water Maker Membrane Picture

14 Jan 2006

I just posted a picture of a Film Tec Membrane in the folder entitled
Water Maker.

I have been in touch with Rod Boreham and he is asking the Dessalator
reps at the current boat show in England some detailed questions that
have been raised here. I hope to post his responses as well as a
detailed parts descriptions and other info soon.

I just received two new membranes from www.airwaterice.com. The price
was $177.00 USD each. They provided prompt service and were very nice
people with great expertise.

Hi Duncan:

The Amel assigned hull number is displayed on my Amel SM2000 (delivered
July 1, 2001), Hull # 335, both on the companionway data plate and is
also etched in the port side aft rub rail. The US Coast Guard
Official Number Plate was fabricated with 4 inch tall number/letters at
my request from fiberglass and laminated into the forward starboard
hanging locker wall upon delivery. I believe this was done upon
request by the buyer only. Not all Amel's, of course, US coast guard
registered.

Re: Super Maramu 2000 Red Line

amelliahona <no_reply@...>

Hi Judy:
Just a guess but perhaps the redline refers to the SM2000 with the red
boot stripe and associated upgrades that came out in about 2003. I am
not sure where the serial number break is but this was a more recent
vintage boat and perhaps accounts for the higher price. Just a guess.

SM Bow thruster refit kit - photos requested

Zanareva

Can a Super Maramu owner that has installed the refit kit that the
Amel factory sent out (after the unfortunate sinking of Crusader)
please post a couple of photos to this site? I'm looking for photos of
the area on the thruster where the kit components have been installed.
Armed with the photos, and the instructions, I can then tackle the
installation myself.

Thanks in advance!

Roy,

Thanks for the tips. I'll look into the hypervent material.

Hi Richard,

We spent two summers in Maine and Nova Scotia, in cold water,
and
got some mildew from condensation under the aft cabin bunk, over
the
settee refrigerator, and in a few other places. We also got
condensation anyplace the cold hull is exposed to the interior of
the
boat, for example the floor of hanging lockers. Two suggestions:
1) Buy some HyperVent material and place it under all bunks and
under
the cushion over the fridge (www.hyperventmarine.com) This stuff
is
great at preventing mildew from condensation. You can also line
the
bottom of lockers that are in contact with cold water with
HyperVent.
2) If you do get mildew on the "carpeting" material under the
cushions, for example under the aft cabin bunk, spray some bleach
and
water(50-50)mixture on it, brush it in well, and let it sit for 30
minutes, then rinse it off and dry well. We have found that this
removes all mildew without damaging the carpeting.

Enjoy!

Thanks for your response

I have the opportunity to test the SHARKI this week-end.
I hope the wind'll be there!!

I've already spleep one night on board.
The inside space is interresting and change comparing my little Bristol 26'
But my interrest is to sail in French Polynesia, and you certainly know that we have Windward and Leeward islands... and windward ability is important for me!!
So, perhaps I'll buy this boat #32 this week-end after my test.
her name is "LIMBO II"

Dear Bruno,
I own Sharki #121 built in 1985, the first year the boat was built with all roller furling sails (the system is much heavier than later models). I believe the mast is also shorter than later models. My wife and I have sailed this boat around the world.

After some years experience with this boat and a new flat mainsail, I would say it's windward ability is good. It cannot sail to windward like a racer (but is much more comfortable), but can point closer to the wind than many popular cruising boats. We have been very happy with the boat, which we still own and enjoy.

I understand that earlier models with conventional mainsails will point better than ours.

The only significant maintenance issue with boats of this vintage is the failure of the adhesive holding up the headliner in the heat of the tropics. It is likely that any Sharki would have had this repaired by now (some better than others!)

I hope this information is helpful.

Good Luck,
