Re: [Amel] Windlass switches and covers

Richard Piller <richard03801@...>

Eric we only found that kind of switch when we were in Europe.  Finding the short threaded contact switches here is very hard to do.  They are an AMEL add on..  if you can find someone to weld up the holes you can use the hand held switch or use a foot switch.  Good luck

By the way anyone buying a replacement Windless the new Tigeres does not come the housing mounted switches (we mounted the hand held in the port locker) nor does it have a place for the chain counter.  You have to drill a hold into the flange and hand grind a flat for the nut to hold the counter element.  You will also have to drill the two holds for the counter itself.  When you do that be sure to set the end of the counter reader within .5" or less of the element.

Hi,

I am looking for a couple of windlass switches and covers that Amel mounted

on the Lofrans windlass. Does anyone know of a source?

Also, does anyone know of a company that can repair a Dolphin 100 amp

battery charger?

They go under the name of Dolphine.

I'm pretty sure I used the US postal service - don't remember it being very costly...

I think Reya shipped it back via Fedex. The total bill including shipping was 240 euro.

Re: Auto Pilot

svbebe <yahoogroups@...>

Hi Bob,

Sorry, I did not answer the following questions in my last email:
Do you alternate between drives or just keep one for back up?
Are they both hooked up to the same course computer and do you carry a spare?
We usually run with only the Linear Drive as it is smoother and not as noisy. Obviously the spare is "built in" to this arrangement, but we do carry a spare 24v drive motor for the linear drive.

The drives are wired to an Amel-installed A-B selector switch which allows for the immediate change from Rotary to Linear.

Our direct email is BillandJudy"at"svbebe.com

Re: Auto Pilot

svbebe <yahoogroups@...>

Bob,

We have an Amel-installed A-B switch which switches from Rotary to Linear. I do not know if it is a Raymarine brand, but probably any quality A-B switch with 4 inputs will do. Ours is rated 20 amps 600VAC.

I attached a photo of the switch and it is located at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/amelyachtowners/photos/album/999927423/pic/2096007121/view?picmode=&mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=1&count=20&dir=asc

Note the lower left "inset photo": The Input to the switch from the Course Computer is at the bottom and the Rotary motor Output is at the top of the inset photo. The polarity of the Rotary drive output is reversed...I assume this is because of the reverse orientation of the drive unit ie Left becomes Right. The top right inset shows the output connection of the Linear Drive and the polarity matches the input from the Course Computer.

Hope this helps.

Re: [Amel] Re: Roller furling motors

GrahamJohnston42 <grahamjohnston42@yahoo.com>

Hello Robin,

I am afraid that you are correct in your conclusion, the motors are no longer available according to Amel at Hyeres. This comes as a disappointment to myself as I believe the same system is used on the Sharki that we are interested in buying and I have now to think about future problems with said gear. This makes me less inclined to purchase as the gear is now 20 odd years old and is due to fail sooner rather than later.

If you are still in Sardinia then I feel sure that there is someone there who could refurbish your existing motors.

I will contact a friend who was the tech rep for Lucas UK and he may be able to identify what other applications the motor was used for as I cannot believe that they were solely manufactured for Amel. Perhaps there are some used units available somewhere.

Regards
Graham

Windlass switches and covers

eric freedman

Hi,

I am looking for a couple of windlass switches and covers that Amel mounted
on the Lofrans windlass. Does anyone know of a source?

Also, does anyone know of a company that can repair a Dolphin 100 amp
battery charger?

Fair Winds,

Eric

Hi Ric

I am also lookingfor locker catches. Robin Cooter kindly
replied saying he picked some up in La Rochelle a couple of
years ago. I emailed Amel and of course got no reply. Does
anyone know a direct email address or contact at Amel that
might help.

Thanks

We have an in mast furling system and both motors (one on the mast and one on the boom) have burned up and are no longer available. Does anyone have these 12 volt motors and know the manufacturer or where they can be purchased?
