There are too many to mention in one letter. You (and all cruisers) should join the Seven Seas Cruising Association (SSCA) an international group of cruising sailors who share their experiences in a monthly newsletter (either printed or on-line). It is possible for members to search the letter database for information on the area they are interested in (such as the Caribbean). You can join on-line at ssca.org. Two of the present Board members and the previous President, among others, are AMEL owners. Other available benefits such as SSCA's equipment survey, port guides, and international cruising stations are highly valuable to both active cruisers and those contemplating the cruising lifestyle. I find mine very helpful when I am sailing solo and at night. very cheap from all gadgets in England. Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Rigging
Robin Cooter <robincooter@...>
Hi,
We replaced our rigging on Santorin 004 after 15 years and there was no sign of deterioration. Your m ain concern may be with insurance. Some will require you to renew afer 10/12 years but more insidious is the practice of refusing to pay claims if the rig comes down and the rigging is "old" but they do not require you to replace rigging after any specified length of time. Check with your insurer. We got stay lengths from AMEL but fortunately I checked lengths of my rigging as I later found that AMEL's figures did not match reality! I got a really good deal from StaLok for my replacement rigging. Regards, Robin Cooter Santorin 004 - Belouga D VOKES <davidbvokes@btinternet.com> wrote: Hi Everybody, I have an amel Santorin no 119. Hi David,

We own a Amel Kirk no 146 from 1974 with rigging from about 1995. Last month we had the rigger modify our backstay by cutting off the old terminal and inserting a backstay trimmer. Anyway, the strands looked fine inside. So we advise testing first! We once had the tensioners tested at Bart's employer (a jet engine overhaul centre) and that revealed a crack in one of them. In our experience with boat designs and as a technician you can trust the calculations of the designer. So meet the minimum requirements of your insurer or whatever make you feel at ease with and choose the highest level of maintenance from these two. Had to reconfigure the compass for a black binnacle mount, to raise the distance away from the linkage. That did the trick; expensive but also looks good. Re: Buying Euros.
Jose_Luis Isasi <jose.luis.isasi@...>
Hello Brian,
How much are they asking for it? I have restored my Euros (Always improving it). I can try to brief you in the process I followed, the rest is as with any other boat. The Hull: The keel has attached an iron keel for ballast. Sometimes you can see corrosion but it is not an issue. I peeled the paint on the hull to check if there was something hidden. Everything was fine so made it painted again with Epoxy before the usual painting. The boat has skeg so it is a rather strong design. The windscreen and windows: These need usually to be replaced I do not know if Amel can still provide you with them. I had to make them with molds and it was very expensive. You can consider the alternative of removing them and install a glass and metal windscreen. I have also changed window screens in the stern but this was cheap. The engine: Mine has a Volvo MD21A in very good condition so I keep it. The deck: Usually the non skidding surfaces are well so it is better not to paint the deck. Water system: I have easily changed most of the piping and I have installed a new water heater last weekend. Lots of things.... please send me an email if you need more detailed information. Stove Upgrade on SM
seastate9 <peacock@...>
We have the original Eno two-burner stove on SM #241; the oven has died; even when it
worked, it was never very hot. We have decided to purchase a new stove. Has anyone replace their stove? Any thoughts or suggestions? Which models did you consider. We have measured all dimensions, and are considering a Platismo 3000, which is 500 mm wide; it appears that it may fit perfectly into the gimbal/frame on the old stove, which is quite sturdy. Thanks, Tom Peacock SM 241

Electric bilge pump float actuator removal
jonathan681684 <john.stonier@...>
I want to remove the float actuator mechanism assembly from the bilge,
to give me better access. As I am sure you all know, it consists of two sections of plastic drain pipe material with a float inside connected to a rod which actuates an electric switch. I cannot completly extract the assemby from the bilge, as it interfears with the engine room roof before I can fully pull it out. The two sections of pipe will slide inside each other when I loosen a screw, but that does not make the assembly any shorter as the rod just becomes more exposed. Can anyone help, there must be a simple way to do this ? Thanks, John stonier, Santorin Allegra.

Technical specs
camacfinancial <camacfinancial@...>
Dear All,
I am a new SM owner and I am looking for some technical information. Amel was so kind to send me a CD-Rom, however it contained information on SM2000, which is not exactly the same. I have seen technical schemes of the regular SM (wiring, plumming, layouts, etc...) that is normally provided on purchase, unfortunatly in my case I miss the majority of them. Does somebody have the (or any) softcopies available for me, or know where to obtain them? Kind Regards, Caspar
