Cheers for the gin. I have new end caps (from Amel),
however I did not receive the membranes yet and I am away from the boat. The job will be done in January and I will report the resulting TDS. Hi John and Anne, Just got our Sheerwater 280. NZ to Falmouth by sea and Miami to Montevideo air freight---and worth every penny. We can launch it by hand form the aft deck and retrieval is a cinch compared to our bullet proof but HEAVY Carib. It goes beautifully with our 2hp Yamaha and out of sight with our 15hp Now doing sterling service in the Beagle Channel. Thanks for the tip. Cheers, Ian and Judy, Pen Azen

ianjenkins1946 <ianjudyjenkins@hotmail.com>
Thanks , Michael. Did you change the endcaps and bobbin at the same time and if so did you get them from Caroline Oldham or Amel?
By the way, I have found the solution to shot membranes. Mine were putting out 2240TDS before I shut them down. But get this....neat Gin comes in at 2.5 TDS. So I figured that with a couple of crates of Gordons in the bilges I could mix the lot and meet FDA regs ( 500TDS max). Imagine, showering and cocktails at the same time! Hi Jan & Judy,
I ordered the membranes from Air Ice & Water, the reference is SW30-2521 and they cost $158 each. Prior to ordering, I consulted with Caroline at Advance Yachts who represent Dessalator in the UK. Re: DISHWASHER & MICROWAVE
We made the mistake using the microwave with 60hz...it will work, but
it will shorten the life of the microwave. The breaker would trip whenever we attempted to use the microwave longer than about 5 minutes. The turntable in our microwave stopped working after using it with 60hz for a very short time. The dishwasher and clothes washing machine also should not be operated on 60hz. The A/C has not problems with 60hz or 50hz. Judy Rouse S/V Security Amel SM2 #387 --- In amelyachtowners@yahoogroups.com, "pjppappas" <pjppappas@...> wrote: the dishwasher and microwave. Hi Peter,

The microwave can be used with 60 Hz, but I am told that excessive use is bad for the microwave generator. The convection function, however, is not compatible. The dishwasher, like the clothes washer, is definitely not compatible with 60 Hz current. Happy New Year to all!! Bill Nation Sogno di Mare SM2K #404 on the hard, Deltaville, VA USA

Re: TDS levels
Peter Turner <peterhturner@...>
Dear Gary and others!
Thanks for all the interesting comments. I seem to have opened a can of worms! My SM2000 "Asolare" has a 60 l/m Duo fitted and I thought that as long as the indicator showed "safe Water" all the flow into the tank was OK. Do I assume that this testing devise does not work in this way? I have ordered (now under review) the Duo 100l/h unit for my Amel 54, as the larger unit also offered can not be used on 24 Volts. I have four large solar panels and with a shaft generator normally have fully charged batteries when underway. When I have to motor sail I use the watermaker on 24 Volts to effectivelly use the high output of the 175 amp alternator on the engine. I know that nothing is for free - but it feels like that!!! Thanks so much for you very helpful comments. Peter Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com

Re: New Amel 54
Peter Turner <peterhturner@...>
Hi John,
Thanks for email. The gang planck has clearly been a problem for Amel but the latest version appears to be excellent as the two piece unit retracts as the hand hold folds neatly into a storage slot and the assembly then rotates into its "letterbox". The dealer in Annapolis who helped me import the 230 volt 50 hertz unit to Antigua has forwarned me that the unit is for 50 hertz use only. Yet I have run my other three Compact Climma ACs for the past 5 years on both 50 and 60 hertz power without apparent ill effect (just a Joel indicated that we could). Has anyone experienced ill effects from running their Climma AC units on 60 hertz power? Just interested in other members experience. Merry Christmas, Gary Silver
