Re: ssb ground strap

svbebe <yahoogroups@...>

I think that you may be looking at the terminal end of an SSB Tuner ground strap/plate. The terminal end is connected to the SSB Tuner which is mounted to the starboard side inside the lazzerette in SM2 #387.

Hope this helps you.

Transponder maybe good idea but it will chew thru your battery life kinda
like holding down the ssb every 5 min be prepared.. But maybe good in
shipping lanes in the med

What do you think about adding an additional MaxSea software with a

I am especially interested in good weather forcasts (gripfiles)

Re: Portlight opening

svbebe <yahoogroups@...>

The Portlight on BeBe SM2 #387 is a Goiot 34.14.

I created a photo album, for "Portholes and Hatches" and placed the specs of the Goiot #34.14 in the album. You should be able to use this link:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/amelyachtowners/photos/album/847909875/pic/1410610079/view?picmode=large&mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=1&dir=asc

Click on the LARGE option to view the spec sheet large enough to read...look for the specs of the 34.14.

sources for prop bearing seals and shore power connectors

Mark Pitt

I have located sources in the US for prop bearing seals and for the pin-and-sleeve shore power connectors found on Super Maramus.

I have purchased IP67 (watertight) pin-and-sleeve 16 amp and 32 amp connectors from http://www.elecdirect.com/. I bought these to make new pigtails for Sabbatical III. I had been using IP44 (splashproof) connectors that I bought a few years ago. When I opened them recently there were obvious signs of corrosion. Connectors built to the IP67 standard should alleviate that problem. I have purchased three of these and they look very well made and reasonably priced.

I did find a source for prop bearing seals. JL Seals in the US claims to make an equivalent seal to the CORTECO I1 CFW BAU4 45-65-8, the seal that Amel sells. JL Seals has an ebay store that sells this seal as
"45X65X8 TC Metric Oil Seal Replaces BAU4 Seals 102945"
for $6.10. They also have ebay stores in Canada, Belgium, Spain, and probably other countries. They specialize in metric sized seals. They can also import and sell the CORTECO seals if the volume is sufficiently great. I have not tried the JL Seals replacement since I recently purchased some CORTECO seals from Amel.

I hope this info is useful to others.

Maramu traveler revisited

Dave_Benjamin

Due to business demands we have not had much time to work on the Maramu lately. One thing I have discovered is that the traveler track is either not thru bolted or has encapsulated nuts. Access seems limited so I've decided to just replace the Goiot hardware with new hardware. I'll be contacting Navimo tomorrow to get some prices.

On my 54 I have built in Iridium phone and love it-use it for email, weather
grib files, phone calls, etc and fraction of the cost of Immarsat with
greater area coverage. In fact in many cases the iridium cost was less than
the cell charges. Furuno AIS which is interfaced with the radar plotter and
do not know how I got along without it especially in heavy ship traffic
areas-it is truly a must have item. Be sure you get the AIS that send as
well as receives as this replaces the so called radar reflects-an absolute
must! Get the latest Furuno Radar/Plotter which is Navnet 3D. I presently
have NavNet 2x as this system is interfaced with my laptop running MaxSea
software. MaxSea is not a very user friendly software, but once you learn
how to use it-an amazing piece of software which works seamlessly with the
Furuno radar/plotter system. I get all of my weather grib information from
Ocens.net-they are the best in my opinion. I also have a portable printer
from Canon and it works wonderfully-an absolute must. Be sure you have a top
of the line external broadband/WiFi antenna installed-a terrific accessory
when in port or anchored in the harbor with local Wi/Fi. Sure beats going to
the local WiFi café. I do not have the Furuno FAX and have never had a need
for it. I did have a connection put on the SSB that can be plugged into my
laptop to download weather faxes. Once I learn how to use MaxSea and the
iridium phone with ocen.net coverage the fax capability was ancient history.
On the AM/FM CD Player-be sure you have the additional ability to plug-in or
interface an IPod or MP3 device with it.

Oh by the way-you did not ask this-but I have the updated passoralle (sp?)
gangway on the stern of the vessel. It was a very expensive addition, but
one of those features that is worth every penny especially in the Med.

Hope this helps!

Re: [Amel] Onan Genset cutting out on SM 302, Pen Azen

Ian,

One other thing to check, We have hull #387 and Onan Model 7MDKVA2317, SN# JO10296057. There is a water flow sensor after the salt water pump and before the heat exchanger. This can sometimes get a small amount of trash inside which will cause the same symptions you have. It is easy to check by removing it from the two hoses and visually checking. I carry a spare, but was able to clean the sensor when this happened. The part is: Switch Low Pressure (Raw Water) 309-0667.

Some automobile "vacuum" gauges also measure fuel pump pressure on the

fuel pump but I would expect to see 2 or 3 pounds of output fuel pressure.
The pump may be working but the output pressure marginal.

Onan Genset cutting out on SM 302, Pen Azen

ianjenkins1946 <ianjudyjenkins@hotmail.com>

Hi y'all, Our genset has run sweetly for 3,000 plus hours in 9 years but has now started to cut out , for no reason I can establish. Fuel is fine, engine temp ( 78C) is fine( it is designed to cut out at 106C), impeller new, heat exchanger clean, exhaust temp fine ( 49C).

In each case it is the engine restart button that needs resetting and the genset then goes quite happily for about 10-15 hours before cutting out again. It has now done this three times.

The manual suggests only two other causes--- too high a speed and too great a voltage. I can't measure these where I am ( en route to the Bahamas from the Dominican Republic).

If anyone has any suggestions as to what to look at next, that would be much appreciated.

Fair winds, Ian and Judy, Pen Azen, SM 302

Dr. Goodman, The masts and rigging on Amel boats are designed to not be
grounded. Most of the system that many refer to as a ground system is
actually an anti-electrolysis system that manages stray current and directs
it to the zincs on the rudder.
