I gave my experience as recently as December. I'm travelling now so cannot give you a better user-group reference. Your condition sounds like voltage drop, like mine. If your batteries show good voltage but your fridge indicates inadequate voltage, you should try replacing the whole circuit of cabling to and from the compressor. If you don't do this, a new fridge may suffer the same problem.

Good morning,
My Electrolux fridge gives red light on the lamp which should indicate
low voltage, but batteries are OK. thus the fridge are not working
properly. According to Electrolux, Sweden they believe it cannot be
repaired since the fridge is from 1991 and they do not hve the spares.
Amel tells me they cannot deliver same fridge any more and I must
modify to fit another fridge.
Have anyone of the Amel owners had same problems ? Can the fridge be
repaired - or can I buy another type of fridge which fits in the gally.
Fridge Electrolux RB2405 115 liter 24 volt.

I just posted a picture of a Film Tec Membrane in the folder entitled
Water Maker.

I have been in touch with Rod Boreham and he is asking the Dessalator
reps at the current boat show in England some detailed questions that
have been raised here. I hope to post his responses as well as a
detailed parts descriptions and other info soon.

I just received two new membranes from www.airwaterice.com. The price
was $177.00 USD each. They provided prompt service and were very nice
people with great expertise.

July 1, 2001), Hull # 335, both on the companionway data plate and is
also etched in the port side aft rub rail. The US Coast Guard
Official Number Plate was fabricated with 4 inch tall number/letters at
my request from fiberglass and laminated into the forward starboard
hanging locker wall upon delivery. I believe this was done upon
request by the buyer only. Not all Amel's, of course, US coast guard
registered.

Just a guess but perhaps the redline refers to the SM2000 with the red
boot stripe and associated upgrades that came out in about 2003. I am
not sure where the serial number break is but this was a more recent
vintage boat and perhaps accounts for the higher price. Just a guess.

Can a Super Maramu owner that has installed the refit kit that the
Amel factory sent out (after the unfortunate sinking of Crusader)
please post a couple of photos to this site? I'm looking for photos of
the area on the thruster where the kit components have been installed.
Armed with the photos, and the instructions, I can then tackle the
installation myself.

After some years experience with this boat and a new flat mainsail, I would say it's windward ability is good. It cannot sail to windward like a racer (but is much more comfortable), but can point closer to the wind than many popular cruising boats. We have been very happy with the boat, which we still own and enjoy.

I understand that earlier models with conventional mainsails will point better than ours.

The only significant maintenance issue with boats of this vintage is the failure of the adhesive holding up the headliner in the heat of the tropics. It is likely that any Sharki would have had this repaired by now (some better than others!)

I have been following the discussion about watermakers and
especially the reliability of the salinity sensor on the Dessalator
unit. I recently had to replace a RO unit at home, and started looking
for suppliers on line. I found this source:

under $50. They seem like good investments to check the quality of our

Does anyone know the difference between a SM2 Red Line and a regular Super
Maramu 2000? Have seen this terminology in ads several times and the Red
Line is always priced significantly higher. What are the differences?
