Hi Paul,

The UK company is SGS in Derby. I spoke to them and they recommended this strut. Fits and works perfectly for my lid, had to make the hole in the end eye a bit bigger. I passed this on to Sonja at Amel Hyeres as she could not supply someone. I will have a look for the invoice, I have all the time in the world. Under strict French lockdown here. Barry,
Thanks. I’m in the UK at present so will see what’s available, unless you happen to know where in the UK I can get one.

Hi Paul, We replaced our fridge gas strut in March 2019. You need a 300N pressure. Do you know where to get one? Best Wishes, keep safe.

Re: A54 Saloon freezer gas strut
Jamie Wendell
I had the same issue where the original strut failed on my A54. I contacted Amel in La Rochelle and initially they indicated they did not have a replacement. However, upon sending them a photo of the label on the side of the strut (very hard to read), they were able to provide a replacement.
The only issue I have with the new one is that it is too powerful and often opens the lid too fast and with too much force. In fact, I had Amel in Martinique install a restraining strap to prevent the screws from popping out - which they did twice after installing the new one. I believe the strut I got is the wrong part, so I welcome anyone actually finding the correct unit. I tried many other sources as well, but no luck. By the way, I have the earlier full-size lid type. I would imagine those with the reduced size lid will have even more problems with excessive up stroke. Jamie Phantom, A54 #44

A54 Saloon freezer gas strut

Hi all,
I need to replace the gas strut for the saloon freezer, but the existing one does not have the force spec written on it (or it has faded). I would appreciate if somebody could let me know.

Re: Location of the battery bank on an older Super Maramu
Hey there, our 1991 SM#56 has a lot of later SM2000 features/upgrades as far as I can tell. One of them from the sounds of it is the battery setup. Under the passage bed fits perfectly: 8 house batteries, the starter battery, and solar and wind controller. That is what I would do, I can't imagine anything else for it. Here some pics, but I couldn't really open the top very high due to supplies being stored there atm...

Re: Location of the battery bank on an older Super Maramu
Germain Jean-Pierre
Hi Mark and Nicky, The early SM’s had only 4 house batteries and these were located in a smallish battery box against the forward bulkhead of the engine bay. We have 1989 SM007 which was extensively refitted before we undertook our RTW. During the refit, we copied the early SM2k and installed 8 X 100 Ah batteries into a fabricated box under the passage way bunk. Additionally, we kept the start battery in the engine bay and raised its capacity to 1100CCA. The cables for the house batteries were routed via a watertight branch out just aft of the bulkhead forming the gangway. If you go for lithium, I expect you’ll only need a total of 600Amps given they recharge so quickly so the area under the bunk will have room to spare. You may also want the engine battery relocated there as well as MPPT controller etc… We have a 3Kw inverter as well and an induction cook top plus an Ocean Chef 3 gas hob/cook top. (The aim was to increase redundancy and reliability). (Be warned… this was expensive and lots of work….) We modified the main engine alternator and installed a smart controller, added 2 new 2460 Victron house battery chargers with smart controllers, Victron 712 battery monitor. Add 3 X 150 A solar panels with a Victron MPPT controller and we were done. Works perfectly after 5 years of 24/7 live aboard. We are pleased. Best of luck but if I may suggest, stick to a tried and proven Amel solution… like we did. Resale value will be adversely affected otherwise. GL Jean-Pierre Germain, SY Eleuthera, SM 007, Opua NZ

Location of the battery bank on an older Super Maramu
Mark Barter
On our 1993 Super Maramu I have been trying to work out what the previous owner did regarding altering the location of the battery bank. He made many modifications and I am not always sure why he made them.
At present there are 4 batteries under the passage berth. 3 of them are in a box and there is another one underneath which is accessible by removing the forward drawer under the berth. In addition the previous owner fitted an additional battery box in the wet locker with 2 batteries in it. So we have 6 house batteries. In the engine compartment there is a box which just has the engine starter battery in it. It looks as if it previously also had maybe 4 house batteries in it. The battery leads are still there. I can't be sure how many batteries this box would fit because I am not anywhere near the boat. When we can eventually get back to the boat one of the jobs I would like to do is to change over to lithium. In order to do so I will need space for 8 batteries. I would also like to utilise the wet locker for a washing machine. Has anyone fitted 8 batteries to this model of Amel and, if so, where did you put them? -- Mark & Nicky Barter S/V Nunky SM 110

Hello Arlo,
Thank you very much. Ops.. I just made a change into the boat :-) I didn´t like how the kitchen drain was designed (conected with the bilge and not directly to the sea), so I made a little but very advantageous modification. I have connected it to the port deck cabin drain. I can open a new post with pictures if you are interested on it. I just copied it from antother Sharki in my marina. All the best, Diego

There is no Sharki manual. See Bill Rouse for a "generic" manual. Mostly references super maramus but alot applies to Sharki as well. Aras Sv Fiasco Sharki #163 1988

Re: anchor wash
Germain Jean-Pierre
When we bought Eleuthera, SM007, the anchor wash system was inoperative.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Our fresh water pump is a 3 bar, variable volume Marco 12 E. Not wishing to replace the anchor wash pump, we placed a T in the fresh water feed to the forward head and now we have fresh water anchor wash. Works fine. We also have a Duo 100 water maker which exacerbates the high volume water use if the anchor wash.

Welcome to the Amel family! Excellent choice of a vessel! You will find that this group is an awesome source of information. Best piece of advice I recieved was dont change anything that Amel did at the factory and if you must, wait until you have owned the boat for a year.
Enjoy! Btw very cool technology referenced on your website

I have a Brandt Model WTQ 66735E. It fits in the space and is very accessible. It washers 6kg at a time, is quiet and energy efficient. Attached are pictures of the washer, the wood covering and to protect the wood and add 30% more counter space Bill Reynolds Cloudstreet I added a counter top with fiddles and padded cleats to center it
