Re: Maramu Gearbox identification

Craig Briggs

James,
I got mine from US Distributor: Drivetech Automation; 5401 NW 102nd Ave #146; Sunrise, FL33351 954.746.9800.
They were $220 each plus tax & shipping (a few years ago).
You will have to grind off some of the cooling fins on the mainsail furler to fit it inside the mast (at least on my SN). This is what AMEL did, I'm sure and it has no effect on the operation (the fins would only be needed for high speed continuous operation in an industrial application). You will need to reuse the delrin mounts and, as I recall, you need to bore a couple of holes in the cover to match the delrin block. You can add Zerk grease fittings if you wish.
Good luck with it,
Craig

Re: vetus coupling removal

Herbert Lackner

finally removed it. what you need is a puller, a hammer and 6 hours :-)  . alignment was easy then using the tool.

santorin owners with a shaft alternator: the "special tool" should be 45 mm longer than for the SM, due to the pulley of the shaft alternator. it still works but would be better if I had made it longer.

Welcome Walter

I bought 3 years ago a Sharki also. My build number #60 is also from 1982.
Most instructions I got from the internet and was found with Google.
These old boats are differently equipped. It depends what the previous ownsers have done or not done.
If you have still the original autopilot Neco 692 I can give you the manual for download.
I have also the Perkins manual and the B&G manual. Meanwhile you can download the electric scheme from here:
https://topperdiek.de/dl/Amel/Electric/SharkiElectric.zip
Tell me if you want the other manual also and what else you need.

Hi Janine and Walter,
welcome here in this great group and good time with your wonderful ship :-).
I'm the proud owner of the 1981 Sharki Baghira (Nr: 42).

I attach two manuals for the Perkins 4108. In GB are some good addresses for spare parts. When you need the addresses, I will be sending you the contact.

But I'm searching for a manual for the original autopilot with panel etc. myself.
So, when somebody can help us, I'm very happy, too.

Good way and careful wind

Fellow Amelians,

Amel Experienced Surveyor Needed. Looking for someone near the Annapolis area to complete a Survey. Sadly, I don’t know anyone on the east coast and would love recommendations!

Re: refrigeration compressor

Mark & Debbie Mueller

Hi Jeff,

On our boat the compressor is mounted underneath the refrigerator, underneath the chest refrigerator/freezer, and to the port side of the refrigerator/freezer under the salon seat.  The Danfoss compressor controller is attached to the side of each compressor.

To gain access to the refrigerator compressor remove the “thumbscrew” on the inside of the under sink cabinet, it is toward the top.  I believe the unit will slide forward into the small under floor storage area between the refrigerator and chest.  I do not remember if there are any attachment points at the bottom of the refrigerator.  To access the chest compressor remove the trim panel at the floor at the base of the chest and you will be able to reach in to access the compressor.  To get to the under seat unit remove the salon seat cushion at the port side of the boat then remove the wood cover on the aft port side.

You may be able to check voltage at the pump interface in the engine compartment to determine if you have a relay problem or Danfoss controller problem.  Refer to the attached schematic from Coastal Climate Control for the interconnection of the relays.  Good luck.

Hi Jeff,

If you are referring to the freezer under the saloon dining table seat the compressor is in the compartment next to it under the corner seat.

For the chest freezer under the galley worktop the compressor is below it.

Good Morning Amelians,
I'm having issues with my refrigeration on my Amel 54.
There are 2 freezers and the reefer aboard Spirit. The circulator pump which supplies water to all units is activated by the command of the pump interface. Each unit (freezer1,2 or the reefer) can switch on the circulator pump, which must be operating for any unit to function. The pump interface is activated by the Danfoss controller.
My problem is that it appears that only the freezer 2 switch is working to activate the pump. Turning on either freezer 1 or the reefer will not activate the pump interface and turn on the circulator pump. If I turn on freezer 2, then freezer 1 and the reefer, everything works. However, the indicator lights on the pump interface are off for freezer 1 and the reefer. I need to run freezer 2 for the reefer and freezer 1 to work. Obviously neither freezer 1 or the reefer switch on the pump interface.
Apparently the Danfoss controller is located near the refrigeration compressor. Unfortunately, I don't see the compressor anywhere, and I don't want to start removing things to search for it.
Does anyone with an Amel 54 know the location of the compressor, and if so, is the assumption that the Danfoss controller is nearby correct?
Best Regards to all.

Re: vetus coupling removal

Davi Rozgonyi

Hey there, wiser minds than mine will answer I'm sure, but I'm just here to remind you to get or make that alignment blank for this job. Skilled professionals were unable to align mine without it....they tried, and my vetus coupling blew a hundred hours later. You will very likely not align it correctly without it. Do yourself a favor if you haven't already, get or make that blank!

Cheers,
Davi

today I tried to align the engine and the c-drive. unfortunately I was not able to remove the vetus coupling from the shaft, tried it also with a puller but without success.  Are there any tricks, special tools,... how this can be done? I remember Eric uploaded a foto showing the tool he made for that, but could not find it. any help welcome
