There are a number so sources in the US for rebuilt gear boxes that will work.
Doug Russell com comes to mind as a source. They are outside of Boston and ship world wide. Use the "perkins" guy in Gib to change it out.

Re: autohelm ST 7001settings

Aras Grinius <n33077@...>

With my 7000, the autopilot does not lie running seas.  The computer cannot keep up with those types of sea conditions.  I find "playing the repsonse time" does help.  Depends on on the period of the waves too.

Re: autohelm ST 7001settings

edmund_steele

Hi Giovanni,
I will describe our experiences with SM#331 and assume that you have similar equipment.

In the conditions you describe, we have found that you need to switch the autohelm drives to the linear drive that operates directly on the rudder quadrant. This unit seems to respond faster than the chain driven / wheel mounted drive unit.

Next switch the "response" setting on the control unit to a "high" setting. Whenever this unit is turned on, it automatically goes to a response setting of "5". In light winds or motoring I will typically set the value to perhaps "2". When maneuvering in tight spaces under autopilot control, I use a fast response setting, such as "7" and will set this to maximum under the conditions you describe. You cannot make an autopilot anticipate a large wave but you can at least have the steering respond quickly to avoid getting into a broach situation.

I have run with goosewinged main and poled Genoa with 30 knots from the stern but under these conditions there is no stiffening component in the wind to damp a side to side roll. For this reason I may de-rig the pole if I feel there is a risk of submarining the pole-end on a roll. With a really strong wind you will probably not need the pole anyway, in order to hold the reefed Genoa in shape.

Fair Winds,

Re: {Disarmed} Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Volvo/Autoprop not making rated RPM..advice please

John and Anne Hollamby <annejohn@...>

Have you checked the prop? It depends on being perfectly clean to set its pitch correctly.
If it is fouled by growth it stays at coarse pitch and the engine cannot rev up to full speed when it is in gear. I have the Yanmar 70HP and it will rev up to 3400 when clean and when it was really fouled after a winter afloat it could only manage 1500 RPM.

Hi
We have a Super Maramu built 1998, and we hade the same problem
with
our Volvo Penta, maybe it could be the same on a Yanmar.
We did do as Ann&John SM #319 suggested but it wasn't enough.
Then we
hade the nozzels/injectors changed. And we had no more problems.

The owners manual for my Yanmar 75HP recommends that if the

Roy,

On ours there is a leaver located externally on the port side of the
gearbox. It is normally held in place by a cotterpin. If you remove the
pin and rotate the leaver 180 degrees. You may have to give the furler a
slight twist by hand to allow the gear to disingage. That's about it.

Hi Ron,

I just over hauled the roller fuller this past winter on my sharki. The
motor did not have any markings left on it. But it was easily rebuilt at
a shop. I do have a spare motor on board that I looked to use briefly.
I'll try and remember to pull it out this weekend and look for a number
for you.

Listmates,

Does anyone know the specifications/Model number of the 12 volt electric
furling motor on 1985 Sharki. Mine got wet and I want to replace it. Or
in the alternative has anyone installed a roller furling unit?
Recommendations?

Thanks.

Perhaps a change in the exchange rate is responsible?

I haven't seen anything to justify jumping the price $8,000 and not
doing anything to the boat.

You can find specs and drawings at this site:  https://www.yachtworld.com/core/listing/boatDetails.jsp?&units=Feet¤cy=USD&ro=1&r=1781761&rs=yachtworld.com&rt=Center%20Cockpit,%20Cruiser,%20Motorsailer/Pilothouse&boat_id=1781761&checked_boats=1781761&Ntk=boatsEN&searchtype=advancedsearch&hmid=0&sm=3&enid=0&luom=126&currencyid=100&toLength=39&cit=true&boatsAddedSelected=-1&fromLength=39&ftid=0&man=amel&slim=quick

By the way this vessel listed for $17,000 in April of this year.  I haven't seen anything to justify jumping the price $8,000 and not doing anything to the boat.

I would think that if it does not sell at the listed price then lowering the price would be the logical thing to do.(JMHO)  If any one understand the 'raise the price' marketing mindset  please clue me in.

Thanks for info Roy and David. I found some excellent rubber tyred 6
inch wheels at Ross Handling Ltd of Leicester which fitted perfectly
and cost me the princely sum of £6.74 per pair including VAT

All,

It appears that Google knows about as much French as I do. I
especially liked the translation from "Ecoute de GV" (which I believe
is the Main Sheet) to "Listening to great sailing." At least Google
has a sense of humor!

I think I will wait for one of our fine Frenchmen to provide the
mono-lingual Americans a translation that even we can understand.
