HI,
is there anyone around who happens to know the manufacturer of the four
hydraulik engine mounts (the four rubber puffer the engine sits on) of
my SM 143/1995???
One is broken and so far I have not obtained an answer from Amel.

This sumer I don't have the time to do a good work, I one put some oil
(WD40) in the switch,
in October I will clean i with a ultrasonic cleaner (like for jewels)
and after I will add marine oil.

Re: Cleansing fresh water tanks

Hi John, we are still in the marina berth having work done on the
boat. This being the case, we are unable to flush the tank out since
it is classed as a marine sanctuary. We are having Tradewinds
re-rigged and a new soft dodger made, something I can actually stand
beneath without stooping. I will post pictures once finished.

Watermakers and Furuno radar

John and Anne on Bali Hai <annejohn@...>

Hello Michael,
Having lived on board a boat for twelve years and spent five years in
the South Pacific on a 1986 Oyster 435 before getting a decent boat,
ie an Amel I would suggest that you should get a new Dassalater 160
ltr as it will provide for all your water needs and do so quickly
thus avoiding running the generator for too long.An ample supply of
good water will enable you to give some away to the people who will
befriend you in remote parts of Fiji or in the Tuamotos where they
have to rely on storing rainwater and thus water is much appreciated.
We carried a 20 litre plstic container full of water as a reserve
against the risk of watermaker failure and gave the contents away
when needed.
So far as the radar is concerned I would not mess about but take the
monitor in to a Furuno agent to have it tested and get exchange
circuit boards as necessary.
Good luck on your voyage, we envy you. Incidentally if you should be
in Malta at the end of October you would see the Grand Prix de Malte
on 31 Oct and 1 November. A French classic car enthusiast joins with
the Old Motors Club of Malta and they have the road around Valetta
closed for the event by the government for a "race".The French ship
in a whole lot of amaxing cars, Bugattis. Ford GT40 etc for the event
and it is a unique Classic event.

Best wishes Anne and John SM319

ianjenkins1946 <ianjudyjenkins@hotmail.com>

Hi Gary, Having transported my sonic speed box back to the UK ,B & G have now told me that there is nothing wrong with it and that it must be the transducers !They explain that the test that Goodwood Marine in Trini had carried out on the transducers ( following the instructions of B&G in the UK) doesn't prove that the transducers work.( To be fair, the fault we have is that wretched thing " an intermittent fault", and maybe when Goodwood Marine did their tests the damn things were working.A new pair apparently costs about 200, about $360 ( and falling, for you guys....). As Pen Azen is on the hard in Trini I have decided to fit new ones when we return in November. Watch this space....

Subject: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Sonic Speed

Hi Ian:

Any updates on your sonic speed problem? While in Guadeloupe last week I asked the
Porchoen tech to have a look at my sonic speed system as I have been wondering about
the accuracy of my system and have been making attempts at calibrating it. Here are
some tips that we discussed:
1. It is important to have clean sensors (nothing dangling in front or between the sender
and receiver sensors). I had recently cleaned mine and noted an improvement. While
painting them doesn't seem to harm them, some sort of sea growth intermittently blocking
the transmission path or causing water turbulence in that path may cause errors.
2. He stated that the sensors very seldom fail but when they do it is because of water
intrusion. He confirmed that they can be replaced via their mounting tubes without
grinding fiberglass etc, but that this is most easily done when out of the water.
3. He indicated that if the knob in the computer is set such that it is in the mid range of
the red LED staying on, and that the LED stays illuminated most of the time when
underway, that this will virtually confirm that the sensors are working properly.
4. The calibration number that they put in to the calibration set up on the B&G display for
the Amel Super Maramu is 6.2. That almost always works. I had been working all around
this number in my calibrations but this number seems to be the best.
5. If all else fails you can do a complete reset of the B&G system (supposedly detailed in
the B&G installation manual. The drawback to this is that it resets the boats log.

Just some more thought as well all strive to understand our technology.

Roy,

On ours there is a leaver located externally on the port side of the
gearbox. It is normally held in place by a cotterpin. If you remove the
pin and rotate the leaver 180 degrees. You may have to give the furler a
slight twist by hand to allow the gear to disingage. That's about it.

Slip for Amel in Fr Lauderdale

Dear Joel,

A few questions:

1) Do you know of any slip where I could leave an Amel SM2000 between

Captain Urquhart who lived on 1317 SW 17 St and kept my Beneteau in

number.

2) I noted that Nike does not have the wood piece closing the bow
thruster area. I thought you mentioned it was something done
recently. How much does it cost to add one?

3) My wife loved the lamp on the dinette area. Is it something that
can be retrofitted and, if so, how much does it cost?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Does anyone have any information as to how to disengage the electric
furler to allow its use manually? Thanks.

Very nice,
Just a question what is "nozzels" ; did you changed the complete
injector ?
did you try to clean the injectors with a product that can be put
in the gasoil ?

Merci

RPM..advice please

Hi
We have a Super Maramu built 1998, and we hade the same problem
with
our Volvo Penta, maybe it could be the same on a Yanmar.
We did do as Ann&John SM #319 suggested but it wasn't enough.
Then we
hade the nozzels/injectors changed. And we had no more problems.

who speaks excelent English. Sometimes he is in France and other
times in Spain but you should be able to get him in France next week
as desalinator have a stand on the fair in Cannes.
I have found them to be very helpfull and if you need any help I
will be on board in Golfe Juan (4 km from Cannes) from the 7th of

hello everyone,

hi,i've bougth amel santorin (1994) recently and i am preparing
her to
go bluewater cruising.I will be crossing the med( france to
turkey)leaving 1st off september.(We leave the med next year)

While preparing the boat the watermaker d60 i believe has not
worked
for at least 5 years and seams to be in bad condition (pump looks
very
corroded,filters don't look so good ether,...)The unit has 150
hours.Does anyone have any advice or experience with this problem?

Is it word to have a big revision done on this (old model)would
you
remove it or change it for another newer less power consuming
model?
Anyone has any idea off the costs reparing a d 60?

Or would you go cruising without one ?

Also have problems with the Fureno radar(500h) only gives very few
readings nearby on small range and not very clear echos.I tried to
clean the connections under the mizzen mast and went up the mast to
open the antenna(wich looked brandnew inside). This didn't help very
much.Adjusting the gain didn't ether.Does anyone have any
experience
on this subject ?

The fridge allso has a problem they changed the compresser but
didn't
replace it with the original frigoboat system but with a
conventional
danfoss (db 35 i think)that works on air cooling. The system
continuesly runs wich made me change the thermostat. This did not
help
so i think i have to change to a water cooled system?Anyone had the
same problem?

For the rest she looks great! haha

Thank you all for your advice.
