Greetings,

The bushing and seal on our Climma A/C Water Pump required replacing
because of a slight leak. When I opened the pump housing I found that
the impeller also needed replacing. The impeller probably became a
victim of electrolysis when our ground strap in the bilge broke
without our notice. It is possible that something else caused the
deterioration as well.

I posted photos in a new folder "Climma A/C."

I contacted Veco-na.com in the US for parts. The had the bushing and
seal to replace the one I had in "spares," but they did not have a new
impeller. I bought a used, but like new impeller from them. This was
the only thing they had.

You might consider adding an impeller to your "spares." Or better
yet, replacing the CALPEDA pump with a new MARCH magnetic pump. I
believe MARCH is the pump that Climma recommends now.

Best,

Bill Rouse

Richard,

to be getting the Amel. I'm glad we can just retap
larger.

Cheers,

2- When drilling the new zinks we used a 9/16s
drill with a 3/8 shank to fit your drill motor.
3- MOUNT THE ZINK SO IT CAN SPIN!!!!!! WHEN
DRILLING STAND ON IT WITH SHOES ON!!

Good luck

Re: Rudder zinc problem

amelliahona <no_reply@...>

Are you sure the threads are stripped??
I fitted a new zinc once, a slightly different one than Amel supplied, and
thought I had stripped the threads, when in fact the bolt wasn't long enough
to engage the threads correctly because of the different thickness of the
of the zinc. A slightly longer bolt solved the problem.

You should be able to use a small flashlight and visually inspect the threads
to see if they are stripped. If they are indeed stripped you could use a Helicoil
thread repair kit to repair the damaged threads and retain the same size bolt.

If the zinc will actually spin, as someone suggested, then I don't believe there
will be good electrical contact and you will have defeated the purpose of the
zinc. There must be a low resistance contact from the zinc to the bonding
wire in the rudder.

I don't know how Amel attaches the bonding wires to the zinc bracket but
a quick email to Amel after sales servies, Olivier Beaute, at sav@amel.fr
(sav at amel.fr) will get you all the information you need.

Hope you find that it was just a too short bolt.

Good Luck, Gary

Hello Gary,

Our SM #266 also has 10MM. If you are in the BVI see Golden Hind
Chandelry, I replaced my chain there for approximatly $2.00 per foot
(I don't remember the exact amount)

I took the chain pawl off the winch and placed the chain in it at the
store just to be sure of the size.

Aloha, Tony

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Replacement of SM scuppers

amelforme

Hi Gary, You have the synthetic rubber rub rail fillers/ “scuppers” .The
later boats have the PVC type and they will not stain .The only problem with
the PVC units is they are very “stiff” ,very hard to install without damage
or failure unless you have special tools and ,most importantly ,a great deal
of experience .For in the field installations ,the synthetic rubber ones
install easily installed and ,if you rinse them after washing with a ½ cup
of white vinegar per side(pour it on at the bow and let it run aft ,
(assist as the trim of your boat dictates ) they won’t develop that moldy
funky gunk (great tech term,no? ) .Sometimes ,I am able to eliminate these
stains here in Fort Lauderdale on boats I prepare for resale with several
applications on vinegar . It is almost magic all the things you can clean
with vinegar, just ask your Grandmother .Hope this helps. Joel F. Potter

Too many years in the Caribbean (if that is possible) has lead to my having
some mold
growing right into the white rubber scupper channel on my SM 2000. No amount
of
scrubbing will remove it. I am considering replacing the scupper and wrote
to Olivier Beaute
to see if it is feasible. He corresponded and inquired if I had, "rubber or
PVC scuppers?" I
believe mine are rubber. Many Amel SM prior to mine had brown rubber
scuppers, mine has
white scuppers, Does anybody out there know when PVC scuppers came into use
and can
discuss the pro/con of rubber vs PVC scuppers.

All the best, Gary

Gary & Ian,

My gypsy accomodates 3/8" and/or 10mm. 10mm is 0.39". 3/8" is 0.38"

The gypsy was either designed to take either 10mm or 3/8 or the
difference is so small that it makes no difference...I am going with
the latter.

Gary,

I am not sure of the cause, water erosion, corrosion, or electrolysis.

I did experience a grinding and squealing noise for a short period of
time that I am certain came from the pump. The noise stopped before I
could determine the cause.

Thanks for the info on the March Pumps. Which size did you purchase?

Hi Bill:

I just now read your post and saw your pictures of the AC water
pump impeller.
Looks like you have already been in contact with the folks a Veco that I
just sent you contact information for and already know about March
Pumps. I purchased my March pump from a local distributor for
March pumps at a significant discount from the price offered by
Coastal Climate Control, Inc. (aka Veco USA).

Any chance the damage to the impeller is just water erosion?

Dave,

For March pumps go to
http://veco-na.com/compactboats25to65/pumps.html.

I did not ask for a reccomendation, but I presume that you would use
the P1000 - 16 GPM - Up to 60,000 Btu...because the P500 - 8 GPM - Up
to 24,000 Btu is borderline with all 3 units running.
