Re: Insurance
Hi Ian,
to the best of my knowledge Pantaenius would still cover you - even singlehanded. We have a 1984 Maramu (and in some respects envy you for the SM2000) and so far never had any troubles with them, but then, so far we never had to make a claim... amelyachtowners@yahoogroups.com wrote: To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to: amelyachtowners-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------ There is 1 message in this issue. Re: YANMAR ENGINE PROBLEMS
kimberlite1212 <no_reply@...>
i do not believe the gold solenoid (made by valeo) was your problem.
the yanmar has a floating ground and the solenoid only closes the negative side so the starter motor will work. i believe your problem is probably the black relay (from yanmar) just forward of the gold valeo solenoid. where are you located? eric s/v kimberlite SM # 376 --- In amelyachtowners@yahoogroups.com, "the Lundstroms" <linneasail@h...> wrote: Re: YANMAR ENGINE PROBLEMSHTE), but no starting problems. Claude,
We spent most of last winter in the Rodney Bay Marina leaving Los Libres for 4 - 6 weeks at a time. No problem noticed with security and we found the services offered were very good. We have not left the boat unattended in Grenada. Hope this helps, let us know if you want any additional info. Glenn & Lolly Luglan S/V Los Libres SM353

security Windward Islands
Claude Roessiger <nearlynothing@...>
I intend to base my SM in the Windward Islands this
winter. Most probably Grenada at the Yacht Club Marina in St. George's or St. Lucia at the Rodney Bay Marina. I know both and both have seemed safe. A recent issue of Yachting World suggests otherwise, even speaking of "all the time crime" on Grenada. The boat will be left untended for about 4-5 weeks; the rest of the time, when we're not aboard, there will be a female crew on board, alone, and her security would also be a concern, if there is cause. Both these facilities represent that they have 24 hour guard. I'd be interested in any thoughts regarding (a) the boat's security at these facilities, and (b) the crew's security on the respective islands. Thanks very much. Cheers! Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] where did you get the 28 volt bulbs
Joel F. Potter <jfpottercys@...>
Hi Eric,
The light bulb blues seem to affect all late model Amel owners from time to time. Here is some hopefully helpful advice I've gathered over the years. Every large city will usually have a store specializing in light bulbs. Look in the Yellow Pages under LIGHT BULBS and TUBES. Here in Fort Lauderdale we have LIGHT BULBS UNLIMITED, (954) 563-6667, www.lightingguru.com and also CAUSEWAY LIGHTING, (954) 764-0970. Light bulbs unlimited can get ANY light bulb you will ever need. They are service oriented and very helpful. Causeway offers a G4 XENON bulb that is a direct replacement for halogen at almost no cost increase. XENON runs cooler, has no U.V. rays, won't burst when failing, lasts 5 TIMES as long as halogen and can handle voltage surges and spikes much better than halogen. They DON'T recommend using a 28 volt XENON to replace a 24 volt HALOGEN as light output will decrease. The 24 volt XENON will handle the 28 volt surges caused by the battery chargers. One thing to remember that is an absolute for almost any type of incandescent bulb...DON'T TOUCH THEM! Truly, our fingers leave a little oil which creates a "hot-spot" which causes premature failure. If you do touch the bulb while installing, take a CLEAN cotton cloth with denatured alcohol and wipe the bulb, allowing it to evaporate before you turn it on. I've tested halogen and regular incandescent bulbs and this "no touch" rule really works on almost every bulb on the boat. I can't wait until they perfect L.E.D. lights! Hope this helps, Joel F. Potter, Super Maramu #400

where did you get the 28 volt bulbs

I have also heard of the mast head tri-color being replaced with a
28 volt bulb. where did you get the halogen bulbs at 28 volts? thanks eric sm 376 --- In amelyachtowners@yahoogroups.com, "dgoffaux" <dgoffaux@b...> wrote: Hi,for a Mastervolt 100 amp, with smart regulation. I have had noeven Theseif you remove the bulb from the package without touching it. smallbulbs are exceptionally sensitive to contamination. I keep a halogenbottle of alcohol in the same tupperware box as the spare (hullbulbs. My bulb life is up dramatically. have#366). We have to change our interior light bulbs all the time thatall the lights on, we end up switching out about 2-3 light bulbsperweek. shorethe problem is with the "Smart Charger" (an option we bought)becauseit pushes the voltage up to 28V frequently (when you are on allpower) which is to much for the halogen light bulbs. This makeslotsof sense, but it's still frustrating to switch out light bulbs the time.
