Engine temperature
mcgosprey2000 <no_reply@...>
Can anyone please post what the usual running temperature is on their
SM 2000 Volvo Penta. At 2200 RPM my TMD 22-P Volvo Penta runs at a steady 95-100 degrees centigrade (about 3/4 up through the range set on the temperature guage, which I think is a bit high.) Having eliminated other likely causes, I am wondering if the temperature issue may be related to a coked-up turbocharger problem which other listmates have written about. If not that, has anyone ever been told that the Autoprop supplied with the Amel may be incorrectly sized (which I doubt). Thanks for any help. Michael Glass Second Call

You can buy the halogen bulbs that are 28v instead of the 24v.It is a common problem.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Fitting an additional Echosounder (Interphase Twinscope)
Tonino Stoppani <md3536@...>
Hi, I had the INTERPHASE sounder looking forward to bottom and side by side on my Camper & Nicholson 45 "MARO' " and I have been very satisfied.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
The installation was on the center bottom of the boat where the thickness of FRP is maximum in a sort of small island in FRP (similar to the small islad used for side log/echo-sounder). Safety was satisfied by the strenght of the FRP island and I never had any problem. God wind Antonio Stoppani (Maro'-Rome-Italy)

I am looking to fit one, but am concerned with hull cutting procedure, transducer placement (so not as to interfere with other sensors) and subsequent hull epoxy bounding + antifouling over join. Photo Album- Laptop Installation
Dimitris <dkra@...>
In the Amel Yacht Owners Forum I have created a photo album with
various photos of the laptop installation on board "Alma Libre". I hope you find them of interest. The electrical supply is via a sine inverter made by Mastervolt and is supplying 220V out of the 24V of the service batteries the rating is 500W. In my web site are more details about internet access, instruments and weather forecast. Best Regards and Fair Winds Dimitris Krassopoulos S/Y Alma Libre www.almalibre.gr

Of course a better solution would be to geta pair of the improved flaps from the makers or from Amel. The completeset, two flaps and a spare diaphram ( not needed ) cost me about US$ 45 inMalta through a chandlery which had to gt them from Italy.John HollambyJohn, John pretty much answered your question. I have never liked the idea of grey water draining into the bilge. I am as careful as I can be about the dishes, but some stuff is always going to get through. I guess daily is easier to remember than weekly, and it seems like it should keep the bilge sump just a little cleaner cleaner. As far as pump failure, none of these theories explain mine starting to malfunction within 2 weeks of moving aboard. Regards, Jim Wiggin

Notebooks - Another Approach
Ian Shepherd <g4ljf@...>
I have read with interest various methods of powering notebook computers. I have done this successfully, but through a different approach. Targus do a splendid line of accessories for those on the move with lap tops. They make a range of neat compact power supplies for most lap tops that will run from a DC input voltage from 2V to 24V. When you order, you chose the appropriate connector for your make of laptop. The appropriate web page is www.targus.com/accessories_power.asp and the price is US$119.99.
Although I have a 1300W inverter, apart from the dangers of having 220V near the cockpit opening whilst under way, it makes more sense not to waste unnecessary quiescent power on such a lean item as a laptop, so I bought the Targus. I fixed it with industrial Velcro under the computer shelf and connected it via a 'free type' cigar lighter socket that I wired via a fly lead to the 12V terminal box at the back of the nav desk. I wired the socket supply through a push pull switch mounted on the left hand vertical panel above the nav desk so that I could easily switch the Targus off when the computer was not in use. I chose the 12V terminal box rather than the 24V one to reduce the stress on the power supply, especially when the yachts batteries were being charged. The set up worked faultlessly and there was no RFI from the Targus unit, unlike some small inverters. Ian Shepherd SM # 299 Crusader

Glad to hear from you and hope all finds you and your family well. In regards to your electric bilge pump problem, my guess at the source of the problem is that anything that goes down any of the household drains is likely to be pumped out by the electric bilge pump. But I don't think the electric pump is designed well to pump debris, particles of food, etc. I think it's a good idea to minimize any particles that go down the drain. The rubber pump parts likely deteriorate over time with debris passing over them. The Amel manual indicates its a good idea to use the hand bilge pump once a week to get debris out of the sump (also just to put regular use on the hand pump). The intake hose for the hand pump is directly on the sump bottom whereas the electric pump intake is about 5 inches from the bottom (to keep it out of the debris). If you don't regularly use the hand pump to clean out the stuff at the bottom, then it's possible that alot of stuff accumulates there. Another problem is if the electric pump is pumping at the same time you rinse off your dishes (pretty likely) then it will pick up the particles before they have time to settle to the bottom of the sump. Regards John Martin
