Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Full cover and HF Radio

hi John, As a matter of interest why did you replace your bimini? And did the replacement fit ok? I think our SMs are about the same age ( June 2000). We replaced our side windows a year ago and are wondering how much longer our bimini will last. It looks fairly worn now but is still wind and weather proof .we leave it in place all the time. It recently survived Uruguays biggest blow since 1944.. a day long storm which peaked at 197 kph.I agree with you about Amels replacement price which I thought quite reasonable but we are in the wrong part of the world.
Has anyone else any experience as to how long the bimini might last?

Hi there,
For what it is worth I bought a new bimini and side curtains from Amel
fot substantially less than the price I was quoted in Malta. This may
be because a local supplier has to make templates etc and probably
alter the finished product if they get it wrong. Amel sent the covers
overland to my UK address cheaply and very quickly.
On the radio question enter HF Radio and Ham Radio in the search box
at the bottom of this page to see previous comments.
Note that since first using the search facility I realise that ifyour
message is on two points they should both be included in the subject
space above to facilitate a search in the future.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] full-cover

svmalaika@...

Giovanni,

I have received some instructions on how to post photos. I'll try in the next
few days and let you know.

The full cover zips onto the back of the folding dodger and extends aft to
two stainless rods that attach to an eye under the mizzen boom and extend out to
the top shroud. You should see a stainless sleeve on the shroud at about the
height of the mizzen boom where the rod sits. Then the cover extends downward,
sloping aft to a stainless rod that is placed under the aft deck rails. It is
easy to install, very secure (held up in over 60 knots of wind) and you could
sail with it up if necessary.

Regarding the SSB, I have a Furuno FS-1562-15 that was installed by AMEL. It
works very well, but if I did it again I might consider an ICOM. The whip
antenna, also installed by AMEL, is at the starboard aft corner of the deck,
immediately over the antenna tuner which is mounted in the lazarette locker. The
antenna is mounted on a deck fitting and held by a bracket outside the aft rail.
This allows it to be lowered if necessary.

Hi Charlie,

first thank you a lot for the informations.
About the full-cover I'll ask Amel the design ( if available); in the
meanwhile is it possible to have some photo ? Over all concerning
details about how it is attached to the sides and to the after deck and
how is the steel structure in side.
About hf radio the main problem is the whip antenna and how and where
to fix it to the deck on SM stern. Which brand do you have?
Any suggestion will be very appreciated.
All the best,

Hi Bob,
Eric Freedman referred me to www.depcopump.com. It is a company with
a huge inventory of all makes of pumps and impellors and should be
able to help you. They supplied me with a complete motor and macerator
assembly for the Jabsco Quietflush toilet for US$150 which compares
with the UK price of about US$400!

Hi Charlie..

In fact there is one quite easy possibility:
- 1°) you should open an acount in one Web photo album. Such as:
http://photobucket.com

- 2°) on this photo album, you have to download the photos you want
to
publish..

- 3°) On the post where you want to publish a photo, you just need
to
post the URL of your photo, such as:

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a5/POIRAUD/Hylas1.jpg

On some Forums, the photo will show itself.. if not, just click on
the
URL to open the photo.. (or cut and copy it..)

I think what you describe is really just a bimini extension. We have that
also. Maybe I am confused, but I thought he was looking for a "full cover"
cockpit enclosure vs. the enclosure that protects the helm and instruments;
what we call our storage cover. Anyone know if Amel makes an actual full
cover for the cockpit (which would include side panels) like one might want
in colder weather?

Giovanni,

AMEL offer a "full cover" cockpit closure as an option. It attachs to the
aft
end of the half-cover and extends beyond the mizzen mast. We have used ours
for four winters living aboard and are very happy with it. You can either
purchase one directly from AMEL or have one made to their design.

I'm not sure I understand your HF radio question. We have an AMEL installed
Furuno SSB that works perfectly. However, we have not yet used it for email
since cell phone connectivity is good in the Med.

heating a Sharki

stargazer41amel <tripulante@...>

Has anyone addressed having to replace the original diesel heating
system in a Sharki?

We have relocated to the Pacific Northwest and are interested in adding
a diesel heating system. We are looking at the hot water system and
was wondering if anyone with other Amels might have done this. If so
how was the "ducting" run in the boat?

Any imput would be appreciated.

DEAR ALL,
I am the happy owner of EUTIKIA, SM 2000 # 428.
The boat is as new and I am improving our quality of life on board. Now
I am wondering how to protect the cockpit with a complete cover.
Actualy I have a standard one with half cover and I am looking for a
practical solution to complete it with a removable structure. Any
suggestions, or photos ?
An other question is about HF radio.Wich is the best way to install it
on a SM? Wich the "lighter" pocket solution? I have read a lot about
( "HF RADIO E.MAIL FOR "IDI-YACHTS" ecc ) but Amel yacht owners
experience first !

Our boat, Annie M, is in Mobile, Alabama. We realize that we will
incur shipping charges from any source.

Thanks for taking the time to check. We are fairly certain that
Sapele will provide the closest match. Samples would be most helpful.

I only have one usable slot in my laptop, and many pcmcia expander

mounted near the computer with a cable and connector to the laptop
pcmcia slot? Am not having too much luck. Have found one that will
hold up to 4 pcmcia's, but is a little clunky as it also hold regular
desktop computer cards. Hoping for a little cleaner solution.
