Hello Ken, Where did you pick up your shorter cable? I remember watching the vid you did that was a while ago. Randall A54 #56

I put the IridiumGo inside the cabinet above the sink. It is just below the steering box and thus there is only a 6' cable to the antenna.

The ultimate cockpit table?
Sv Garulfo
Hi all,
Last year, we installed a cockpit table based on a Lagun structure and a skimboard. Yes, after looking for months for the perfect table top, a light bulb switched on in the fun sports department of a hardware store in Panama. The Lagun arm idea came from a friend on an SM, who got the idea from a friend of his on another SM. It has since been used on a Mango, and Maramu friend is drooling over it. I think it would fit most Amel model i can think of. Table tops are a personal choice but the skimboard, although looking “modern” (some may say weird) won it for being lightweight, weatherproof, very rigid, skid proof, very cheap (~$20!) and, as it turns out, very cleanable. On a 54, it’s possible to find the right table dimensions to: - Use it as a coffee table for everybody’s sundowners, - use it as a dinner table for two, on either side of the mizzen, or other layout to stay out of the sun, - use it as a computer desk, again in various parts of the cockpit, - stay/swing out of the way of people moving in the cockpit while sailing or entertaining, - open any cockpit locker and the engine room hatch(*) without removing the table, - deploy and use the banquet cockpit table without removing the useful cockpit table, - operate the winches on the mizzen. We put it up more than a year ago in Panama and basically never removed it since. (*) by cutting a wedge off the foot, the hatch can even open without raising the table. Hope it will give you ideas and a many enjoyable alfresco meals. Thomas GARULFO A54-122 Hiva Oa, French Polynesia

Solution: Furuno NavNet3D CMOS date/time not set
Sv Garulfo
Hi all, if, when starting your Furuno Navnet 3D MFD, you see a black screen with an “American Megatrend” logo, all sorts of lines of text and a mention of “CMOS date/time not set” towards the end, you need to replace the easily available CR2032 button battery in the computer/central unit. Exact location shown on the attached picture. Hope it’ll help someone some day! Thomas GARULFO A54-122 Hiva Oa, French Polynesia

I tried the same. Spray adhesive from a home improvement store seems to work quite well.
And it isn't labeled "marine" so it's reasonably priced. :) -- Scott 2007 A54 #69 SV Tengah http://www.svtengah.com

Re: Problem dismantling the main furler worm gear box
Hi Paul,
VERY familiar with that problem. Our gearbox was actually past it's use by so we set to and cut through the gear to extract the shaft. It wouldn't come out even with a hydraulic press. The shaft was badly pitted and clearly the steel/aluminium/saltwater combination had done its work. The knob and the shaft are one piece alloy and available from Maud No part #, just "Shaft for gearbox main furler" Eu139,00 Best regards Alan Elyse SM437

Hi Scott, On a side note, we found the app ‘iWatchSat’ very useful to find out sat coverage. It’s very simple and it helps to plan your call/grib fetch. We found waiting for good coverage is the best way to dramatically improve connection quality. Hope that helps, Thomas GARULFO A54-122 Hiva Oa, French Polynesia

Re: Lubricants, Sealants, etc. & thanks to Bill Kinney
Fred, Thanks for that. As you know I do not have a recommendation for bearing grease. The manufacturer of MD 466 EP is Sogelub. They recommend it as a solution for metal-to-metal surfaces. This synthetic grease is very good, but only readily available in Europe. If I was asked by a European client for a synthetic grease recommendation, MD 466 would be my #1 choice. I am sure that Amel made the correct choice. Thanks, again.

Problem dismantling the main furler worm gear box
Have problem to dismantle the shaft (see picture) from the main furling gear box. I need to get off the Aluminum "NOB" that connect to the main furler.
The inner shaft with the Aluminium "NOB" is totally stuck. Any suggestion how the get the aluminium "NOB" off the inner shaft? Hopefully I can purchase the inner shaft from Maud, and maybe she has the Aluminium "NOB" as well. The Leroy Sumer gear box is available from Amel. Anyone who have manage to get the worm gear off the outer shaft? On the out haul gear box the worm gear is attached with a retaining ring and easy to take off, but no retaining ring to be found in the furling gear box? Paul on SY Kerpa SM#259

Hi Bill and thank you again for the effort to ease the sailor's life. I was trained in La Rochelle by Daniel Jourdain who was the mechanics at Amel's pontoon for the last 20 years. Amel use the reference Sogelub MD 466 EP in many locations as I did for years with very satisfying results… [Note] Perhaps not very easy to get abroad but for those who like to know. I will be happy to help Best Fred S/V ScentStone SM2K #375

Re: Iridium go external antenna location
I’ve used an Iridium Go on a ocean trip once and did not use an external antenna at all. If you put the put the device under the sprayhood it works fine. You can get a waterproof USB cable for the power supply and that is all you need apart from an USB charger outlet at the helm. When I talked to the supplier about this he said the value of the external antenna is very limited.
