Re: Greasing stegring cables

The cables are sealed.

The racks and pinion have to be disassembled to add grease.

Thank you for your reply Ann-Sofie,

The ones I saw at sailrite were all either 22mm hole to hole or just under 16mm.

I'll take another look.

Hey Paul - Can't help you with the fasteners, but if you're exploring Brunswick, GA this is an absolute must visit." A short walk from the marina. Cheers, Craig

Re: Bimini Twist Lock Fastener

Thank you Gerhard.  From the description I am not sure if the overall length is 22mm or if the hole to hole dimension is 22mm.

Have you purchased this item or can you verify that the hole to hole dimension is 20mm?

Thank you for your time.

Hi Kent,
thanks for your advice.
What Eric on Kimberlite reports is really impressive - and completely in line with what I have heard from other sailors with gale / storm / hurricane experiences.
What our Amel's do stand and perform in heaving-to is already more than amazing, but the Jordan Sea Drogue is 'the saviour'.
I have decided now finally to install one.
For questions of the bridle (I have a bring at the Stern for solar / wind turbines / dinghy) and retrieval and where to buy I will contact Eric directly.
Once again thanks a lot and happy saling with JSD onboard without taking her out!

Bimini Twist Lock Fastener

Paul Stascavage

Good day to all.

Has anyone located a source for the Twist Lock Fasteners that are mounted on the hard dodger for locking down the bimini side curtains and the tonneau cover?

I can only find ones whose center hole to center hole measurement for the mounting screws, is either larger or smaller than the 20mm ones that we have on our boat.

Please see the photos below.

Re: Supermaramu wire sizes?

Dan,

I am sure that you know this: In Europe the wire is sized in square mm.

You might want to measure the diameter of the existing wire, calculate the area of the cross-section in square mm, then if you need AWG, use an online conversation chart to get to AWG. Here is one:

Alexander, search this forum for Jordan Drogue and you will find detailed post from Eric on Kimberlite about using one in hurricane conditions.

I am happy to learn from your experiences in heaing-to with the staysail and the mizzen. I did not use the mizzen yet for that, and it is just very logic that you can balance the Amel ketches with both sails in a heaving-to situation.
Many long distance sailors, also singled-handed ones, report excellent experiences in really rough seas, even far upon 50 kts, with the Jordan sea drogue. Some spak About life saving. I plan to install one. Does anybody have experiences with the Jordan Sea Drogue on an Amel ketch? How does it perform? How do you retrieve it?
Thanks, happy to hear from you.

Hi Duane,

when you install 2 of them you can also save the genset!! With this instrument the water pump belt, impeller, seawater filter and closed seacock are under control!!

Hi Alan,

Your B&G has a digital meter readout over the cart table that reads whatever speed the wind is.

Re: Victron Quattro charger/inverter installation

Scott SV Tengah

Apologies for the late response - we were doing the Chesapeake-Caribbean passage. Now here in Marigot Bay with two other 54s! It was getting a bit too cold on the US East Coast!

I can explain what was done conceptually but 220v frightens me, so I had the electrician do the actual wiring.

The Amel transfer switch is bypassed completely. The wires from the shore power plug go into AC2 while the wires from the genset go to AC1. Victron specifically states that you should have your genset have priority if both power sources exist. I’m not really sure why, but given that I see no harm in their way of doing it and moreover, I will be playing with the Quattro’s programmable relays, I abided by their recommendation.

From Quattro Manual: "In a Quattro the AC1 input has always priority over the AC2 input. A common practice is that a generator is connected to AC1 and shore power to AC2. As long as

the generator is running the Quattro’s will use the generator. "

On the output side, there are two  AC-Out outputs which go to the main panel switches. Sorry I am not sure how this is physically wired, just speaking conceptually here. These outputs are fed from either mains/genset power OR uninterrupted power (aka mains/genset/inverter). I have all but one item fed by AC-OUT-1, which is uninterrupted - runs on either shore/genset or inverter. Yes, the water heater, scuba compressor, aircon, washer/dryer, etc. are run from the inverter.

There’s AC-OUT-2 output, which is ONLY fed from shorepower/genset power and the only thing I have connected to that is my Skylla 80amp charger. This output is on, I believe, a 2 minute delay from when shore/genset power is detected.

I hope this helps somewhat.
