SM- Yanmar Ignition module?
Hi SM-Yanmar owners: I changed the fuel filter recently and knocked loose the red (24v) wire that goes from the 24v alternator positive post into the small module that is attached to the engine between the fuel filter and the engine stop solenoid (?). The white ignition wire to the alternator also comes from this module. It has five spade connectors and only four are used. It looks like it came off of the rear most spade. Also, if it contacts the open center spade the red alternator warning light on the 24 volt panel comes on. Can anyone confirm which spade this red wire should be attached to? And for my learning; it would be great to know a bit more about how this module functions. I'm guessing or vaguely recalling that it uses some other signal like oil pressure to switch on the the ignition signal to the alternator? Thanks and regards, Daniel and Lori Carlson on sv BeBe, SM#387, at Shelter Bay Marina

If you look carefully on the back of the top rack I think that you will find that your boat actually has two grease nipples on the steering system, or at least mine does. I missed the second one myself on the first grease run. I can tell that grease is getting on to the racks since it changes the sound and the feel slightly. While it is certainly easy to pump some fresh grease in I am thinking that it would be a good idea for me to take everything apart and clean out any abrasive material that might be in the old grease. Fingers crossed that everything looks good! Best, James Maramu #220

Re: Companion way for removal
Alan Grayson
Hey mate, I did not remove the slide, I just removed the plywood at the back to allow it to slide up to the dodger. I masked off the wood on either side before raising the slide to work on it.
I removed all the top layer of the plywood then sanded with 80 grit. One coat of high build epoxy primer then a sand with 220 grit. I was not happy with the coverage so I did it again, then 2 coats of awlgrip Nordic white straight
off the shelf. It was close enough for the 3 meter rule. If it looks good from 3 meters then your done. I do have a couple of runs so I would like to do another coat but I’m in no rush.
All done with a brush and foam brush.
We are heading to St Anne for a few days of R&R and zero dollar days after 2 very hectic days.
Rigging went well I had it very close they only adjusted the main uppers, the mizzen uppers and the mizzen backstays.
Got everything on my list ticked off.
Alan

I came by this morning to have a look at your companionway, and it looks great. Could you give some more information on your proceedure? Did you remove the door, or just raise it to the Dodger? If the door wasn't removed, were you able to mask off the wood channel the door slides in, or how did you protect the unpained frame? Or did you just paint to the edge of the frame? What kind of epoxy filler did you use? Just one coat? Was it applied by brush? Thanks! Duane Wanderer, SM#477

Paul, I recently had an intermittent one way bow thruster issue and it was being caused by the switch under the joystick beginning to fail. On the SM it is pretty easy to lift the black bow thruster direction panel and have a look at the switch.
A replacement joystick 🕹 switch did the trick.

Re: Mast painting Amel Super Maramu
Jean-Pierre Massicotte
Hello, no I did not strip the masts, booms and spreaders to bare aluminum. Just carefully treated the corroded area and then re-paint all. Care full prep is required when painting aluminum, don't skip any step according to the paint system you are using and you will have beautiful masts again. Careful prep is required for a good looking and lasting finish. There will be always some area prone to electrolysis that will need retouching, make sure to isolate your winchs and all stainless with Teflon washers and used isolating paste when mounting anything to aluminium, that will help for future dismantling and reduce the electrolysis effect and paint damage. Have fun, hope this help Jp, Vanille, SN 51

Re: Mast painting Amel Super Maramu
Patrick McAneny
Jerek, Many years ago I did just that, sanded the corroded spots , primed them then lightly sanded (320 grit) the mast and repainted with Awlgrip . I can't imagine the work in order to sand all the paint off the entire mast , it is entirely unnecessary assuming the paint is bonded to the mast. Be sure to clean the mast well and be sure to remove any wax that may be on the paint.
Good Luck,
Pat

thank you. Did you strip the entire paint to aluminium or just repaired corroded areas and left the good paint on place? I think of repair corroded spots, thereafter sanding the entire mast and paint on top of the old sanded paint. Best regards Jarek -- Jarek Zemlo

Hi there

I thought it would be interesting to note that on the mid 80s Maramus with morse 401 commander rack and pinion steering system each rack has a grease nipple so this sounds like a good idea as an upgrade for the ultraflex system imo. All the best Miles Maramu 162

Re: SM- New rigging.
Hi JP,
In 2014 we had all the standing rigging on Elyse replaced by Phil Ash at Gulf Harbour Rigging. He is probably one of the best if not THE best rigger in New Zealand. He has re-rigged a number of Super Maramus over the years and knows everything needed to do the job properly. It would be worth the trip. I can send you his quote privately if you like. Germain Jean-Pierre
Hi Gang,
We are planning to replace our rigging before proceeding W from NZ in the new season. I have found a very competent rigger but he wishes to have a full rigging plan in order to get the proper components. I found a "link" but when I want to save it to an email... it went pfffttt... and disappeared in the www. Can someone help me? Kind regards, Jean-Pierre Germain, SY Eleuthera, SM 007 in NZ.
