You have raised an interesting point about routing software. This is something I know nothing about and am certainly interested in getting. My chart plotter is Furuno, and I use Navionics on IOS. Any suggestions for compatible routing software?

We have been turned onto iSailor by other cruisers who use it. I downloaded the app and charts. It really works well. One of the very appealing features is you “rent” the charts rather than buy them at full price. The price of the rental averages about US$30 for a year and charts are automatically updated when newer versions become available.
We use iSailor only as a secondary system to our main onboard ships custom PC running Nobeltec Time Zero: https://mytimezero.com/
We have used Nobeltec TZ as our primary source for navigation since purchasing Cream Puff. We upgraded the ships PC to a solid-state computer custom built for us by Island Time PC and linked the PC to the NMEA 0183. Other aspects include integrated ActiveCaptain and AIS. In addition to a very comprehensive routing engine we have the ability to download weather and sea conditions while in-route using our sat-phone. This overlays onto the plotter and the routing engine will adjust the suggested course as necessary.

Cannot argue with the logic. We are fortunate, our strap seems to be pretty intact. But fashioning a copper connector by hammering a pipe has also been suggested, which seems easy enough.

Randall why do you not do it in 316 stainless Steel? We had a workshop done it for us reccon it will last many years. Yes I heard the argument SS is a poor conductor and yes it is, but the current going in the strap are milli amps,so not importan, And it is connected to the SS Keelbolts!

I have painted my bumper twice during my ownership. Once in 2015 in St Martin and just last week. Each time I used a can of acrylic spray paint acquired at my local big box store intended for plastic yard chairs. I found it to have excellent adhesion. I simply sanded with 220 grit, cleaned and sprayed multiple coats. The paint lasted 4 years before wearing through. It did not flake or crack and cost less than $5. even in the Caribbean. I was also able to find a excellent color match to the slightly off white Amel hull. Will Stout Anni Bea True SM 180 For Sale in Annapolis, MD.

Hi Nick, sorry for addressing you as Nicole in my last. Darn spell-check and lack of proofreading... The "manual" I received with Annie was in French and was mostly an engineering description of the vessel. I learned how to use the Amel bow thruster service kit from this Amel Owners Forum. Do a search of "bow thruster" and I am sure you will find written instructions. That said, I am sure Bill Rouse's Amel textbook has a detailed set of instructions on how to drop and retrieve the bow thruster or as Bill himself suggested check out Alex's website for Super Maramu Nikimat. I hope, and I do expect, that you simply lost the propeller. It is an easy repair. Some complaint that the Amel bow thruster is too exposed and prone to damage, perhaps true....but it is also so robustly designed and easy to service that it rarely requires a professional. My SM is 30 years old and is running on her original bow thruster parts...with the obvious exception of the prop. Change the oil regularly and it will last almost forever. This is true of almost all Amels of the SM vintage.
The previous owner of Annie (FMR Vent de Soliel) had her for 16 years and stressed to me that regular greasing was the key to the vessel's health. After purchase I sailed her for two years all around the Caribbean. The only issues I had were with parts that were not lubricated so I give a lot of credence to his advice. Those that failed were for the most part "sealed" so I cannot blame the previous owner. As recommended in the forum I have since modified some parts(furling gears) to accept grease via zirc fittings, and others I have placed on a maintenance schedule to disassemble and clean regularly...similar to winch maintenance. Getting a grasp of the key maintenance items on your vessel will save you a lot of time, headache and money. Take a few days to get intimate with the forum archives....or invite Bill to France.... We’ve had pretty good luck with Flex-Seal. It’s a line of products that includes paint, filler, and glue. One year out we have a couple of chips, about to touch up. It is a little slippery when you stand on it, was thinking of adding a non-slip texture to the paint next time.

Slightly different issue, but still to do with the bumper.

Hi Tom,
It is not such a daunting project as you may think. We did remove and replace our tank ( we had one custom fabricated to the exact same dimensions , however with the addition of inspection ports , to replace the old one ) - we also included a simple fuel level indicator in the walk thru. We have a 1980 Maramu, so no electrical panels above the tank. All parties involved with the removal and Re-installation process praised Amel for having the forethought to enable the fuel tank to be removed in one piece from the boat, without too much work. The only thing we needed to remove was the starboard hand rail on the companion way. With three people we were able to manhandle the tank into the saloon , over the Nav desk and resting on the saloon table then into the cockpit via the companionway and onto the dock - I believe we might have needed to remove one stay to facilitate this ?? No need to remove anything further. But plenty of heavy blankets , bible wrap , etc , as protection to the wood work , should be in place before removal. We went the route of replacing the tank after all the effort of removal. It just seemed to make more sense and are happy to have a new clean stainless steel tank . On another note , we have seen other Maramu’s who have replaced the tank with a shorter tank , giving them more space in the walk Thru albeit with lower tankage. Something you might want to consider.
