Ah, my apologies, I asked for a MDKBN, but I am still amazed at the price difference. As for shipping they did say in an email that they would ship abroad and not include VAT.

There was a vendor on EBay that made beautiful cast stainless exhaust elbows for Yanmars. Much better than the factory version. I have one Kimberlite and it is flawless. Possibly someone can find them and ask is the do, or will make the elbow you need. Fair Winds Eric Kimberlite Amel Super Maramu #376

If anyone winds up having a genset exhaust elbow made, I would like to have one also. Maybe added numbers will reduce the unit cost.

Paul,
Are you sure the part you have seen at Sea Power Marine is for the MDKD genset? That is a model significantly older and rather different than the one on your boat. They also state on their website that they do not ship outside the UK (in fact, they exclude a lot of the UK from their sales territory!)

Re: SM2K: Replacing a CLIMMA 9EH AC unit in the Salon
#replacement
Nick, Congratulations! I know the SMs on either side of 476. BTW, I travel the world. I have clients in France, all of Europe, New Zealand, Australia, USA, and many other places. I travelled to New Caledonia to train an owner new to Amel. If it is impossible to repair (I doubt that), I would buy another Climma Compact Unit. Climma Compact Units routinely last 20 years, yet there are those that change brands because if failed. Climma and Frigoboat, both VECO companies, were Henri Amels choice. I think he was right. --

The unit took me about 2 hours to install. I installed mine in the aft cabin .On 90 degree days it can cool my cabin like a meat locker.

There is larger unit if you think you need more BTU'S, It is the same size. The thermostat is digital and whats really great as it has a phone type cord connecting the sensor on the coil to the thermostat. Fair Winds, Eric

You can get one from Seapower Marine in the UK for £425 + VAT (20%). http://www.seapowermarine.co.uk
I have enquired about getting a discount for ordering several, and also to see if the VAT is not applicable for non-UK residents (which I believe should be the case).

Re: Onan MDKD 6.5kW genset exhaust elbow

Mark,
From the local Onan dealer we were quoted $1600, still pretty crazy. The internal geometry of the part is complex, with a partial water jacket, and they are typically investment cast. There is a shop that will make the molds, but they need a part to cut open so they can measure and duplicate the internal geometry, and it takes a minimum of 8 weeks. If we could find an old one, we'd start that process while ours is still limping along. We were lucky--this time--that the salt water spray from the leaking elbow didn't hit anything fragile or important. It could easily have soaked and destroyed our battery charger, or the electrical end of the generator. We do not consider JBWeld to be anything other than a very short term emergency repair to be made right as soon as possible, however that is done.

Orion,
The exhaust elbow is a relatively complex geometry that also fits into a fairly tight space. While I am sure replicating it from measurements and sketches alone could be done, the chances of getting something wrong would be pretty high. Here is a picture of one for reference: https://amelyachtowners.groups.io/g/main/photo/84403/13?p=Name,,onan,20,1,0,0 -- Mark McGovern SM #440 Cara Deale, MD USA
