Re: Rub Rail Rubber Inserts: Last Call

Hello Karen,

I am interested in joining the order (will commit today)  if the rail you are going to extrude would fit my Amel Mango.

Do you have a profile/drawing/picture you can share? Or do you know if it will fit the Mango?

Thank you,

Charles

Martin,

We have been using a Webcatcher (I believe the same as a Bullet) which I bought from Diginav in Le Marin 4 years ago and it has worked perfectly ever since. There was a choice of 3 antenna sizes and I went for the middle one as a compromise between vertical beam width and range.

Cheers,

Hola Amelians,

I am looking for current reviews on the best wifi extenders.......

I searched the user site files and couldn't find anything new or relevant.   Objective is to grab shore wifi while at anchor and work remotely with video calls, email etc... I know the quality depend on the source..

Appreciate your experience as I am looking to buy a system now.

Rub Rail Rubber Inserts: Last Call

Karen Smith

We have an extruder in the USA to make a custom extrusion of the Amel rubber rail that fits the Super Maramu and Santorin.

The material will be white EDPM, and it will be supplied in 2 pieces each 16 m (52'6") in length.  Cost will be $805 for the two pieces sufficient to replace both inserts on one boat.  Shipping will be from South Florida, and for UPS ground it ranges from <$200 for the lower 48, to $460 to Hawaii.

We have 10 boats signed on as interested, (which JUST covers the minimum order!) and will be scheduling the production run within a week or so, so if there is anyone else, this is your last chance!

Hi Bill.
I think to fix the propeller we have on board, as spare, instead of Autoprop.

The bottom part goes between the shaft nut and your prop (if it’s a fixed blade, not sure about folding). At least that’s where mine has always been.

I have a leak on the genset raw water pump and am in Guadeloupe.  Yesterday I managed to source the pump shaft from the onan dealer in pointe a pitre.  However am having more difficulty sourcing the seals as there are only metric sizes available here.

I have tried using the new shaft with the old seals but as expected not a very successful outcome.

Will hopefully be heading towards Antigua, BVI, Bahamas and onto the US, virus restrictions permitting.  Would be great to get hold
of the correct seals before I reach the US though.

Any suggestions welcome.

Re: Cockpit Loud speakers

Gary Wells

I replaced ours with Fusion units as well.  While the current speaker covers are square I think you will find a round hole behind them.
I did have to drill new screw holes, and the old ones are filled but still slightly visible.

They sound great :)

Re: New Head which one

The old quiet flush base sometimes failed in 10-20 years. It was redesigned. There is not enough time to tell if it is better, but I believe it is.

Re: Floor board locks

Amel installed 2 on each floorboard. On my last boat I also installed 2 locks.

We have been knocked down about 12 times on Kimberlite 9 in a hurricane 1 microburst a 2 rogue waves.

For about 6 times the floorboards were not locked and the still stayed closed and nothing flew around- no drawers or cabinets opened.

Re: SSB Ground Plane - Advice?

Alan Leslie

Hi Duane,
Lack of a ground connection can cause crazy SWR readings.
Lack of a ground connection will make it impossible to transmit.
Lack of a ground connection doesn't affect your ability to receive.
Faulty coax cable between the radio and the tuner can cause high SWR readings.

You need to check that there is a low impedance path from the antenna tuner ground to the sintered bronze plates on the rudder skeg.

The best ground connection between all components is flat copper strip, but wire will work as long as it is multistranded and low impedance.(we have wire from the radio to the tuner to the ground plate connection in the lazarette, and it works fine).

Cheers
Alan
