Re: SM main furler motor
Hi Dan. I see you are SM#116 and looking at Bonfiglioli gearbox. We are Hull #240 with Leroy Somer MVA M33 gearbox but the reduction ratio should hold true depending on motor speed. Ours is 1:60 paired with a 3000 rpm motor. Best, Mike Ondra Aletes SM#240 Chesapeake and Martinique bound

Mark,
Can you provide the model number and company you purchased it from for the Bonfiglioli MVF44. Also, what does the gear ratio for the main furler and outhaul furler need to be? There are many on line that have gear rations from 20:1 to 55:1...not sure what I have on both. Thanks, Dan SM 116 FlyGirl San Diego, CA

Hello AMELians,
could someone provide the color numbers for a SM2K Redline for the white hull, the red water line and the red stripes at the top of the hull at the side. Thanks so much :-) Fair winds Olaf

Re: AMEL 55 -2012 — Replacing CLIMA aircon unit systems with a schiller central unit
For what it's worth, the aircon system on our Amel 50 is AMAZING! It is very quiet and works perfectly. The central chiller unit is in the engine room. If you can convert to it, in my opinion, it would be worth it.

Re: AMEL 55 -2012 — Replacing CLIMA aircon unit systems with a schiller central unit
Jose Alegria
Bill, hi
Thank you very much for your opinion but I would like to detail the situation further and request your re-examination The Amel 50 and 60 currently come equipped with a central chiller system (Webasto ) and the last 55 at least from July 2017 have also been equipped with central chiller systems. My actual situation: My 55 hull nº 3 comes with: 2 compact CLIMA in the aft cabin both of 3.5; in the saloon one of 7 plus other 12 and in the front cabin another of 7; 5 equipments of a total of 33,000 btu, but 3,5 + 3,5 at the main cabin are clearly insufficient in places like Greece in July-August; They are totally ineffective and extremely noisy. How to solve?
a) Installing new independent CLIMA or WEBASTO equipment, increasing power in the aft cabin to at least 12-15 000BTU and benefiting from the fact that the most modern appliances have about 25% more cooling capacity,
b) keeping 5 equipment and also keeping the noise of the compressors in the noble spaces or following the current Amel philosophy by placing a WEBASTO variable speed schiller (Webasto V50) that drains only at 2.5 to 15 amp, not exceeding 5/8 amp in eco mode, and puts 5 air handlers (smaller than the compact units) How change all pipes system?
Probably the path of the current saltwater circuit can be replaced by Schiller liquid (water and glycol). I will also be able to take advantage of the condensate circuit to make the pipes pass through the same holes.
And maybe I need more new holes !.... I would be grateful for your more detailed appreciation of the issue. Thanks in advance Can you

Re: Reckman EF90 Genoa furler
Although I can find nothing on Amel specifications, I believe that you will find that the Reckmann EF series comes in 3 sizes: EF-90, EF90-2, and EF90-3 and that the Reckmann EF-90 is installed on the 55 and a recommended replacement for bamar on the 54. If I were you, I would ask this question to SAV"at"Amel.fr. --

I ordered from Amel, I haven’t received it yet, but Maud had several kinds. I described what was originally installed and she said she’d send what appears to be the same. It’s a D with all the walls the same, about 5mm thick all the way. She didn’t know anything about the cylindrical piece that was described as placed into the D seals at the corners, and said they don’t have anything like that.
When I get it, I’ll take some pics and try to describe the material and compressibility. Kent Robertson S/V Kristy SM243

Danny I am sure A represents what Amel installed, but since apparently all manufacturers have cheapened the foam by lowering the density. This is the reason that I believe I would replace it with B profile.
That said, I will wait for a final judgement until after Kent has talked to the manufacturer.
Kent, you should ask: Is B better than A in situations where the compression will be greater than 25%. Best,

Hi, There are a number of insertion rubbers available made of different rubbers. What type did you use? What thickness did you use for the diaphragm and the flapper valves? Fair Winds Eric Kimberlite Amel Super Maramu #376

Hi, in the absence of a kit to hand I made copies of the flap valves out of thick insertion rubber. This a fibre reinforced rubber sheet. I found the replacements tended to take a curve and not seal well. I got about 5 years out of the ones I made. I have just installed a new diaphragm I made out of a suitable thickness insertion rubber sheet. I punched the centre hole, put it on the shaft, closed the pump on to it, held it there while I drilled the holes. Then bolted it up and trimmed around to outer size. Working well. I made a second while I was at it to put in spares. I have been carrying the insertion rubber sheet as spare for some years. If I get premature failure (which I doubt) Ill buy the replacement I could have bought one first up but I enjoy the process. Cruising again at last. At Volivoli, Viti Vevu Fiji. Had two magnificent dives with Wananuva dive this morning. Wow. Danny SM299 Ocean pearl Regards Danny

I had too CLIMA units that were noisey which was only the fan unit vibrating and rattling, I used some gentle persuading to some areas of the frame which stopped the issue, they all run acceptably quiet now
