We just overnighted at Hancocks. Indeed, the Cohansie is generally very deep. Charts do not indicate depths. While pretty close to the center of the river, we did run aground, needed to kedge off. But again, most areas are 15 to 30 feet. Depending on timing, mosquitoes and/or green heads can be a real nuisance. On the New Jersey Atlantic coast, I would be reluctant to go into Manasquan. Not really anything between Atlantic City and Sandy Hook. However, Sandy Hook has always been a surprisingly beautiful anchorage. Three weeks ago we saw a breaching humpback right in Raritan Bay. Hi Jacob, Yes I have been in a hurricane on the drogue. Please see above. When I had kimberlite built I had the stern cleats super reinforced. From day one, I have been against sea anchors. Being that they are launched from the bow , you are basically going backwards or standing still. .... and continuing up the New Jersey shore you've got Absecon Inlet (Atlantic City) which is excellent and you can anchor off the Coast Guard station or take a marina and try your luck in the casinos. After that Manasquan is feasible, but you'd be better off going up to Sandy Hook.

Has anyone here added the additional chainplates? The Maramu has what looks to be a very sturdy and unused pair of chainplates, which I understand is used to hoist each hull into a test tank before launching. (Not sure if the Super Maramu has that as well) I was thinking that would be a good attachment point, but it leaves the question of how to run the legs of the bridle back to the transom and overboard without chafing. There's a wonderful "secret" anchorage on that route. It's the Cohansey River part way down Delaware Bay and you can anchor around any bend as you go up the river. This is an old commercial freighter port and has lots of depth going in and all the way up the river. Keep entry light "1C" close to port going in and then stay far left for 6 to 7 Meters (20-25 feet) of water. If you go up a few bends there's a fun restaurant at Hancock Marine where you can tie off at their dock. Approach depth is 3-4 meters. In calm winds there are mosquitoes the farther up the river you go. At Cape May you can easily carry your draft into the inlet and anchor either to the left towards the Coast Guard Station or to the right before the bridge or past it. Watch for 180° tide change. If you look at Dessalator specs you'll see that it does operate much more efficiently at 24v vs 220v. https://www.dessalator.fr/en/products/price-list/ For my Duo100, operating at 220v uses nearly 60% more wattage than operating at 24v. Moreover, inverters aren't 100% efficient so I try to go 24v whenever possible. BTW does your 160l/h actually produce 160l/h? Cabin sole revarnishing

Hello there
Our cabin sole needs some tlc. Family sailing with young boys onboard means it’s seen some action and I need to revarnish it. In high traffic areas we are down through varnish to bare wood in patches. I’d greatly appreciate any advice on how best to restore the floor. Do you think I need to remove all the existing varnish 1st? If so I assume cabinet scrappers would be the best option - if very slow :( Then I was thinking of a few coats of epoxy ?? and then a matt varnish. In the information you provided on August 6 you mentioned that your water maker outputs approximately 80 LPH consuming 600 W. We have the Dessalator 160 which is 220 V only. When operating it is speced at 16 A or 3520 W. Dividing in half to correct down to 80 LPH assuming a straight line function we would use 1760 W or approximately 3 times the power consumption for the same output as your Dessalator. Could you please verify your power consumption and water output? I would like to try to determine if I have something wrong with my Dessalator or the Duo operates extremely efficiently on 24 V. I can and have run the hot water heater on battery. It's only 700w so similar to the water maker, but of course 220v so inverter inefficiencies come into play. To clarify, I can do all of those things I mentioned earlier. I can run the water maker on battery alone, I can run AC all night on battery, I can heat water. That is a testament to lithium's ability to handle high current loads with no issue. But those are extraordinary uses - my 960w solar array cannot output enough power if I engage in those high current loads every day. That said, the charging efficiency and current "intake" capacity of lithium makes the panels far more efficient than they would be with lead/agm/gel. I've been doing more research on this...again. I used to own a 27' off-shore center console power cat with a ParaTech sea Anchor. That's very different from say an Amel Santorin. I'm currently leaning towards a JDS if budget and space require me to choose. Otherwise, I'd have both and be prepared for both. However, I expect my first inclination would be to reach for the JDS.
