Stern tube hose

Arlo

Hello all. I am looking for a source for 54mm stern tube hose for my stuffing box on my 1985 mango. 54 mm is equal to 2 1/8 inches. Preferably a U.S. supplier as we are located in the US and need it next week. None of my normal resources can get it. :(

Mike,

Thankfully, I have not needed to tackle this job yet.  However, I did remember seeing a post by Gary Silver posted that had a sketch of his holding tank system.  You can find it here:  https://amelyachtowners.groups.io/g/main/files/Amel%20SM%20Holding%20Tank%20Plumbing%20Diagram/Holding%20Tank%20Plumbing.pdf

There is also a lot of information in this photo folder:  https://amelyachtowners.groups.io/g/main/album?id=84526

Good luck!

I am afraid there is no book of the Amel Sharki. There is only a flyer still available.
You find the autopilot compass behind the portside backrest cushion in the saloon.

SM holding tank internal details

Mike Ondra

After years of various issues with the metal parts of the holding tank assembly, it seems we are now facing their complete failure. Pumpout now does not remove contents, indicative potentially of a breach in the pumpout riser tube that should be sucking contents from the bottom of the tank. Disconnection of the supply hose from the pump discharges nearly the entire contents of the holding tank into the boat (less than pleasant), perhaps indicative of a breach in the supply riser tube which should be directing the effluent to near the top of the tank. Seems like a double failure at this point.

So, does anyone have drawings, pictures or even knowledge of the 2 risers inside the tank? I have heard them referred to as bronze, but I suspect copper from what I have seen. Has anyone replaced them in their entirety? We have, over the years replaced the tailpieces that connect to their respective hoses with plastic pipe secured to the tank with epoxy (a solution that worked for the corroded/eroded original bronze/copper tailpieces), but have done nothing that reaches inside the tank.

I have not seen any postings on replacement of interior riser tubes, so if anyone has experience/images please reply.

Thanks,

Mike Ondra

Re: gel coat Nr. SM 2005

Hi Steve,
I'm not aware of a gelcoat color number scheme and after many years of sun you may not get a perfect match even if you had the original factory color.
However you can easily get an excellent match yourself. Here's a link to an excellent DIY site called Boatworks.com. He covers all aspects of repairs, but this link is specifically on how to match colors. https://www.boatworkstoday.com/?s=color+matching
I followed his technique and unless I point the repair out, you really can't see it.  At 6 knots on a dark night it's even better :-)

Sidepower SP 155 TCi needed

Alexander Ramseyer

I'm looking for a refurbished SP 155 TCi bow thruster motor.
IMTRA in the U.S. said they only have the new SE170 available.
Does anyone on this forum have experience with the SE 170? Is it a seamless replacement or are there changes to consider?

In any case I would prefer to stick with a refurbished unit of a SP155TCi. If anyone has an idea where I could find that, please let me know (I already asked in Martinique..)

Alex

Re: Prop to Zinc Connection

Stephan Regulinski

Bonjour Olivier,

I carefully cleaned the prop shaft to get good measurements. I read zero Ohms between prop shaft and the prop.

But from prop shaft to zincs on the rudder I got a range of measurements between 2 and 50 Ohms, depending on movement of the propeller. I measured 0.2 Ohms from bonding wire on the C Drive to zincs on the rudder. Any idea why this could occur? Should I do something to correct?

Merci beaucoup,

Stephan Regulinski

Hi,

Here is the photo. Once you have it apart have a machine shop open up the hole a few thousands of an inch.

today I tried to align the engine and the c-drive. unfortunately I was not able to remove the vetus coupling from the shaft, tried it also with a puller but without success.  Are there any tricks, special tools,... how this can be done? I remember Eric uploaded a foto showing the tool he made for that, but could not find it. any help welcome

Re: What is this black gasket

Patrick McAneny

Bill , Might the gasket fit over the threaded opening and rest on top of the reservoir and the cap tighten down on top of it ,I see black marks on the bottom of the cap as though it had been in contact with the rubber gasket. Not the typical gasket/cap contact point , but may be. Does the gasket fit over the threaded part of the reservoir ? The diameter looks about right .

See the black gasket in the attached picture. It was found inside the C-drive oil reservoir. At first glance I thought it was the gasket for the top, but obviously not. It is too large.

I think I have seen this gasket before.

Any help would be appreciated.

Craig,

I am amazed that you found a US source for these boxes! Thanks for sharing, I have added this information to my Sueno file.
I will be in Florida myself pretty soon and will follow up. I agree with what you said about the cooling fins not being needed since our usage is of short duration.

Thanks,

They were $220 each plus tax & shipping (a few years ago).
You will have to grind off some of the cooling fins on the mainsail furler to fit it inside the mast (at least on my SN). This is what AMEL did, I'm sure and it has no effect on the operation (the fins would only be needed for high speed continuous operation in an industrial application). You will need to reuse the delrin mounts and, as I recall, you need to bore a couple of holes in the cover to match the delrin block. You can add Zerk grease fittings if you wish.
Good luck with it,
Craig

Hi Bill. I would suggest it goes under the cap. Sometimes the material used expands with age.
