Hi Barry,
What light in the panel are you looking to replace? Is this the freshwater pump light? If so, there is a bulb inside the housing.
I used these (yellow) to replace the lights on the panel indicating the freezers we on. They fit with a little adhesive to hold in place. If your hole is too big, consider putting an o-ring on the new light and gluing it to the panel with a dab of contact cement.

Hi Kent & Iris, and the Amel community in general, Sorry I cannot comment on the shelf life of the packing material but I do have a question regarding the packing nut and stuffing box. A small leak was noticed after our passage from Panama to Nuku Hiva. Just wondering if there's anything special with tightening the nut. My plan is to fit a large wrench, give it a ~1/8th turn and tighten up the siezing wire. Is it that simple? I know other stuffing box designs sometimes want a very slow drip to help with lubrication. Maybe that is only for propshaft stuffing boxes? Just want to make sure I understand the Amel design before doing anything. Should it be 100% leakproof and dry? Bill, speaking as one of those who really, really, wants to own an Amel but doesn’t yet have one, I find those “maintenance issues” posts fascinating and one key way to learn more about the brand and the different models. When I finally pull the trigger, I feel like I will really know where to go to get help on any problem I could face - this forum (after using your excellent school of course!). This forum is unparalleled in the depth of the information on models, potential issues, maintenance tips and tricks, recommendations and even cruising ground advice - it is one of the key reasons I am totally sold on Amel over competing manufacturers (plus all Amel owners are just so damn smart and good looking so who wouldn’t want to be one!).
Don’t apologize for those kinds of posts…. even though we’ve seen hundreds of posts on how to replace bow thruster seals, I read every one and learn a bit more each time so that when I finally do get my Amel, I know that I should be able to tackle just about anything with reference to those of you who have shared your hard won experience.

I already isolated the water heat exchanger. Still same.
getting the salt water result I checked the freeze point of the coolant versus the sea water. What was in the heat exchanger had the same freezing point as the ocean so i tried a drop. Definitely salt water i did pressure checkes on every single tube in the heat ex. All good! Its now back in the engine. i used a high torque on the seals and also added some sealant. will see over the coming weeks if it’s fixed. -- Bernd SN 119 / Cascais, Portugal

My wife and I are thoroughly enjoying our new Amel 50. Personally, I really appreciate the thought (Amel philosophy) that went in to designing our boat. As with anything man-made, our boat requires maintenance, which makes me even more thankful that I own an Amel.

James, You do not search for Kerpa photos. In the past some members named photos or albums names that had nothing to do with the photos. Two of our members accomplished the enormous task of renaming photos to match the contents of the photos. A fun Amel pick-me-up for those on here considering an Amel.... met a very cool old French sailor last week, been around the world more than once, pulled up at the dock in a stunning Boreal aluminum beauty, and ran right over and said: I NEVER want to see other people's boats! But an Amel...I always have to try! We had many beers and good times as he extolled the virtues of my own boat better than I could have :D

We replaced our bosch with the Beko. Outstanding machine and quite easy to replace. it works much better than our house washing machine. The hardest part is getting the machine to the boat!-if in the US.

Asking me? Yes we did. Doesn’t regrett it at all. Keeps the cockpit a bit cooler (and warmer in cold climate) as it is a sandwich construction. Perfect spot for solar panels. Not really satisfied with the design, as this is the prototype that was ment to be replaced. But it had been in place since 2010 now. Wonder when/if it will ever be re-designed 🥴

Hi
My wife complained that I was developing a stoop standing at the helm trying to see around in our SM. Then I saw what Ian and Judy did in their SM 2000 Pen Azen, which had a single large vinyl curved window with one zip at the front. I copied the SM2000 measurements for lengthening the 3 stainless steel canvas support bars, repositioned the lower one, then had canvas made to measure coping their design. It is fantastic, even with it closed you can see the sails. However our zip does leak in heavy downpours, despite a small canvas flap outside to protect the zip from UV. I went one step further, and had a row of velcro stitched above and below the vinyl, so I could put up sun block panels with the vinyl rolled down (3 straps to hold it together) or when the vinyl is closed. The contactor is an automatic switch that selects either the power from the shore or the generator. The manual switch does the same job, just manually. I bought a Schneider Electric rotary switch rated for 32A, with an off position between the shore and generator position. It is inside the same box in the cockpit locker, except the selector is inside the galley to port of the existing generator start switch. My Stator was rewound for 610 euros including VAT, and was assembled (with difficulty) in the engine room. It all works now. I also installed the 20A bipolar trip switches in the aft lazerette that Bill suggested, and I took the opportunity to replace the full length of the shore power cable (right up to the rotary switch). That seems reasonable, Eric. It does seem a long shot and one I certainly haven't encountered. So if there is a leak in the water heater heat exchanger I guess it could force fresh water into the coolant when the engine is cool with no pressure. That seemingly would have the engine be filled by the fresh water pump and likely drain into the bilge through the pressure cap overflow tube. That doesn't seem consistent with Berndt saying the engine coolant fills up when the engine is hot. The plot thickens !! ... but a good mystery.

Hi again Bernd, if your heat exchanger has rubber end caps it is high level probability that there is the problem. Tighten the hose clamps as a first try. I had that once on a previous boat and called the Volvo service from out on the water. He said straight up. Tighten the hose clamps. He was right. Regards Danny SM 299 Ocean Pearl
