Bernd,
Seawater should only come in close proximity to coolant (sweat water) inside the heat exchanger. There has to be a leak in there somewhere. How did you conduct the pressure test? -- Mark McGovern SM #440 Cara Deale, MD USA

Re: washing machine and dryer for Amel 54
Martin Bevan
We replaced the original Bosch machine in 2017 when it started to trip the power out. The replacement was as in the previous post, a Beko. There are very few half depth machines available and Bosch no longer make one. Our original machine was held in place by two bolts attached through the back of the machine which go through a panel at the back of the machine space and are secured by two Amel style wheel nuts. These are accessed via a panel in the port side double cabin. We fitted these bolts to the new machine.
The old and new machines just fit through the companionway doors. On the the subject of tumble dryers, ours got a large amount of use, especially for drying towels when at sea. The main issue that we had was with the grill at the end of the exhaust pipe blocking, solved by removing the internal grill. Martin Bevan Previous owner of Caduceus A54#56

VP MD22L
Hi everyone!
Following problem on a SN (119 From 1995) Engine VP MD22 L I have the following problem... After a few hours engine ops the sweat water (coolant circuit) becomes saltwater. I suspected the leak in the bundle (the tube with the many small holes, about 40 cm long in the heat exchanger). I did a pressure check on this part with a compressor today and there seems to be NO leak. I slowly come to the end of my ideas... ? The engine is still good for it’s age, but running on saltwater will kill it sooner or later 😢 Anyone with some hints n ideas for me?! Greets -- Bernd SN 119 / Cascais, Portugal

I replaced my washing machine with a Beko 6kg 1000rpm one that I found in Spain.
It barely fits, but the nice thing is that it's 50% more capacity than the original Bosch. Securing it was a pain but possible through the "shipping plugs" in the back of the machine. I'm not aboard now but will return to the boat around the 12th, so if you want the model number, I can post it then. And if you go for this machine, I can walk you through how I secured it. The boatyard tried to secure it and well, their solution resulted in the machine falling out at an inconvenient time. :) -- Scott 2007 A54 #69 SV Tengah www.svtengah.com

Just to clarify the tridata instrument works when powered up, its just causing problems with the seatalk bus. Also I am not asking for a freebee, just would rather purchase one from this family than a complete stranger...

Eeplacement ST 60 Tridata or I50 Tridata needed
Arlo
Hello all, my ST 60 Tridata Raymarine instrument finally stopped working on the SeaTalk bus. Worked with Raymarine and did the troubleshooting and they said the unit was bad. So I can replace with another used ST 60 Tridata or and I50 Tridata instrument and get it back on the seatalk network. So I am looking to see if anyone has an old ST 60 Tridata or I50 Tridata that is fully functional they no longer need. (Maybe someone that upgraded their entire system). Prices online are high for the i50 and not sure if the ST 60's online are fully functional. Thought I would ask my fellow Amel family first.

We didn't get down to Vista Mar Marina, and heard a few good things about it. The downside was the distance from the city. Not sure that is an issue for you, but it was for my wife. $425.... Thanks, the info about high pressure fittings helped to locate the type. In the end I ordered from Dessalator bcs of time issues.

But the original fittings on my D100 duo are worst. The are 316 inside but come with brass screw on for the outer part. If some saltwater (very likly on a watermaker) enters from the backside into the fitting it works as electrolyte between 316ss and brass part and eats it up until the hose slips out. There are pure 316 ss fittings on the market... Lets see what they send my now? Oliver from Vela Nautica A54#39 Sent from my Huawei Mobile

After considering a plan similar to yours, we just replaced the old cockpit enclosure with a semi-permanent fabric Bimini-like top raised a few inches above the dodger. It’s attached to the dodger and to the forward mizzen shrouds. It has two large windows to see sail trim, houses two large flexible solar panels, and is high enough that I can see all the way around standing up straight. The side and aft panels make a very dry and warm cockpit. We spent two days hove-to in 35kts with gusts to 45 and the new enclosure held up great and kept us nice and dry. It’s been a total game-changer for me, being able to stand up and see all around...even when it’s raining cats and dogs. Craig and Katherine on Sangaris (SN) did something similar, but theirs stops a bit farther aft and allows them to step into the cockpit without bending over. I’d be happy to send you some pics of mine (or post them) if you’d like. Kent Robertson S/V Kristy karkauai@yahoo.com USA cell: 828-234-6819

Can you recommend any specific spots? We are looking to spend a little time going between the marina and the Pearls. We are currently in Vista Mar Marina. It is just about 50 miles west of the Panama Canal on the pacific side. The rates here a incredibly low. We are paying about $425 per month. And, the marina is top notch. The big problem is that cruisers don't have a nice and cheap marina like Shelter Bay on the South side of Panama. But, dropping the hook, and paying the dinghy fee at La Playita is the best/cheapest way to go once you're through the canal. Don't stay in Balboa YC for more than a few nights, if at all! Re: washing machine and dryer for Amel 54
You will have fun finding a replacement. There are a few that you may be able to find with the same size.
I saw this at some point: Bosch WLT24440
and/or Siemens WS12K440/WS10K460/WS10K160/WS10K360 But I’m not sure if they are still available Bear in mind that Amel added some bolt-holes in the bottom to secure the machine. Apparently you can remove the washer as one unit. The dryer needs to be taken apart completely in situ as it is too big. The dryer was modified quite a bit by Amel. Basically they cut the lower back right corner off the machine and rerouted the exhaust through the bottom. The dryer can still be obtained in the UK last time I checked: White Knight C37AW 3 kg Dimensions (H) 67 x (W) 50 x (D) 47cm (same machine, different brand)
White Knight C39AS 3.5 kg Dimensions: H67cm x W50cm x D47cm (bit more capacity because of reversing drum) In my case I ended up replacing the heater element of the dryer as it was broken and repainting parts of both machines. They work fine now. Arno Luijten, SV Luna, A54-121
