Eumenia Mini 5500 Dishwasher Parts
Ken Powers SV Aquarius
All,
I have a Eumenia Mini 5500 Dishwasher, and would like keep Aquarius stock. But, need to get spare parts for the dishwasher. I have emailed ersatzteile@schabauer-service dot at , but have not received a response. The evacuation pump is out, and might try to find a replacement which is similar if I can not get the exact replacement. Any thoughts on what I should do. Thanks! Kenneth Powers Aquarius sm2k262

Re: Prop is spinning freely
Karen Smith
Mark,
I think you are mixing up the ZF25M transmission and the ZF25. The document you reference is for a ZF25M, not the ZF25. This has been a common source of confusion on the forum, since both of these are the common transmissions used in many Amel boats. The similar model numbers for two very different machines has always been an issue. This is my understanding of this un-necessarily complicated issue: The ZF25M is a smaller, lower horsepower rated, transmission that shifts mechanically. I believe none of these transmissions were ever fitted with a shaft brake, because none was needed. The ZF25, even though it has a very similar part number, is a very different beast. I doubt the ZF25M and the ZF25 have any parts in common. The ZF25 is a higher horsepower rated, hydraulically shifted, transmission. As far as I know (and this might not be correct) the Volvo TMD22 engines all had ZF25M and the Yanmars all had ZF25. Note that these model numbers changed when the original Hurth brand was bought out by ZF. As the document you quoted points out, the ZF25M can free-wheel without damage, other than routine wear on bearings and seals. With a normal fixed prop or a MaxProp, putting it in reverse will lock the rotation. The AutoProp is a different story. It rotates in the opposite direction when free-wheeling, and needs to be put in FORWARD to lock it. The rule for operation should be “Do not allow the transmission to free wheel while in gear—ever.” If the prop rotates while in reverse, put it in forward. And the other way round. The ZF25 relies on the hydraulic pressure generated by the rotating input shaft (from the engine) to shift. If the engine is not turning, it will always be in neutral, and neither forward nor reverse can be engaged no matter what the position of the shift lever. Therefore, the prop will always spin when the engine is not running. Most hydraulic transmissions require the engine input shaft to be turning to pump the fluid internally to lubricate the moving parts. The ZF25, however, is allowed to rotate with the engine off. It will be noisy, and add routine wear to the bearings and seals. There is no way to stop the rotation without a shaft brake. Here are the rules: If you have a Volvo with a ZF25M transmission:

Hello Rod,

Welcome to the Amel resources!!! Greatest asset to ownership... in my opinion of course!! Amel is now using Facnor furlers on their new boats. FWIW... Would you include the type, name of your vessel and it’s location in your signature block? Helps in locating spares, trades etc near your boat. Cheers, Jean-Pierre Germain, Eleuthera, SM 007, New Zealand

Re: Onan group on SM number 32
Juan, You should have something like this. It will help you with many things: If you have a meat thermometer, it can work. Something like this:

i am not sure what type of thermometer I can use . I checked coolant level , see water temp, coolant temp in the hoses before and after heat exchanger but only by hand and not using thermometer thanks again for your answer

Re: Onan group on SM number 32
Did you measure the Temperature of the Exhaust Elbow and the Oil Filter? The oil filter should be about 80C when the Onan has warmed up to operating temperature. And the exhaust elbow about 50C. If the exhaust elbow is higher than 50C, there is a restriction or limitation of seawater flow. Other than the things you checked, this can be caused by a build-up of carbon in the exhaust manifold and exhaust elbow. Did you visually check the impeller? Bill

Alex, the ones I ordered and installed are below. I do not think either one is still available, but there are others that are similar if not a bit more expensive. I prefer the cheaper of the two. I am not at the boat now, so regrettably I cannot take a photo of the install. You would not use the pedestals - just the seat.

Is the diesel tank on a 55 regular shaped or did amel use a custom sender to accurately show fuel? Water tank shape also?

It is my great pleasure to announce that Olivier Beaute will present at our first ZOOM Meeting of 2021. It will be held on 16 January 2021 20:00 to 21:00 UTC. Details:
Many members of the Amel Yacht Owners Group trained on their new Amels with Olivier in La Rochelle. Many of us relied on Olivier as the manager of Amel SAV. And, a substantial number of our Group have used Olivier's surveys when purchasing their pre-owned Amels. As most of you know, after a long and successful career with Amel, Olivier Beaute went into the survey business and established ATLANTIC YACHT SURVEY.
The topic of Olivier's ZOOM Meeting will be "An Amel Survey." His presentation will last about 30 minutes with 30 minutes for questions. Tilo Peters will monitor, queue, and ask Olivier your texted questions.
This meeting will be very good for all of our members.
I suspect that this meeting may book to capacity and urge you to register soon.

Paul,
We've found our ebespacher quite effective in cold conditions. But what we found really useful in Scotland and the Baltic was an electric blanket. They don't use many amps, but make a significant difference climbing into bed at night or coming off watch! Ian Ocean Hobo SN9&

Re: New battery bank / one battery smoking and leaking

Ben
Don't replace the bad battery until you have found the issue. Maybe it was a bad battery or a charging issue. If the latter, you risk damaging a replacement in the same way. Prior to crossing the Atlantic my batteries were suddenly running down quickly. After separating them and testing them I found one battery was not holding a charge. I removed it from the system reducing the house bank to three. Everything was fine then; the bad battery was stopping the rest from charging fully. If your batteries are not new, don't put a new one in the system. Reduce to three. Find out whether it was a bad battery or something in your running charging circuits. If you have to keep.moving, either everything will charge up fine or another battery will go the same way. When you've identified the issue think of renewing all the house batteries. I When this happened to me I was at the same stage of the learning curve as you are now! This group has hauled my knowledge up by the bootstraps!! Ian Ocean Hobo SN96

Re: New battery bank / one battery smoking and leaking
Ben,
Some more info would help. When you say, "Basically only the alternators." - does that mean you have more than one engine alternator? When you say "I will change the battery ..." does that mean you will just take the overheating battery out of the house bank of 5, and not that you are actually "changing" it? Or are you ex-"changing" it with the starter battery? What does "regulate the charge in the coming hours" mean? Are you back to shore power and running your Victron? Does that not regulate the charge automatically (through it's 3-stage program)? Would love to help you sort this out, but your post is a little hard to respond to with the paucity of information you've given. Best, Craig - SN68 Sangaris, Tropic Isle Harbor, FL

Re: New battery bank / one battery smoking and leaking
Ahah, I’m learning the hard way the fun part of owning a boat. I heard a long time ago.... be the friend of someone who owns a boat. All it will cost you is a case of beer. Lol Yesterday I was on shore power and all seem well. Yes I was motoring for about 50 nm and realized the problem almost at destination. But it was going on for a while. Just don’t realize cause of lack of knowledge. Today was very cloudy so almost no solar power coming in. Basically only the alternators. So I will change the battery and regulate the charge in the coming hours. Thx for the help Ben

When you charge batteries you have to go through several phases (1, charge max, 2. lower amount, 3 trickle charge). If your charger/your alternator, windvane or sun panels faile to lower the charge, then you fry the batteries. -- John Bernard "JB" Duler San Francisco Meltem # 19, Western Med

New battery bank / one battery smoking and leaking
Good afternoon again Amel fellow group.
I seem to have another problem on my Amel. I realized this week that my batteries were all dead after a year due to Covid of not being able to maintain the boat properly. (Couldn’t reach the boat in another country.)
I changed all my batteries yesterday for 6 new ones. 5 are a bank and one is for the starter.
I am trying to figure out if the problem could be only that exact battery, from the fact that all others seemed ok or do I have a problem somewhere else in my set up?
