SM2000 for sale in NZ.

James Studdart

Hello all,
I posted a while ago that our boat was for sale but we have finally moved off of our beautiful Super Maramu 2000 and she is now ready for viewing in Whangerei, New Zealand. We have a webpage with most of the pertinent info here:

http://www.svseabean.com/for-sale/

Briefly, she is a 2002 SM hull number 344 with a Yanmar engine and a few well chosen upgrades (inverter, solar, water maker). She also has nearly new sails, rigging and dingy. We have just finished our three and half year trip from France to New Zealand and I wouldn't have any hesitation setting sail again.

Feel free to email me directly at james.studdart@... if you have any questions.

Cheers,
 James Studdart

SM2000 for Sale

Due to an unexpected escalation of a medical problem I will no longer be able to continue the cruising life.  So it is with great regret that we must sell our 1999 SM 2000, "Maracuya", after putting over $35,000 worth of improvements and upgrades into her over the past 6 months to make her comfy and seaworthy. (My pride and joy is the 730W of newest generation solar on the arch) The boat is being brokered by Stephanie and JP of Caraibe Yachts (Caribbean Yachts) in Le Marin, Martinique . (stephanie.dupland at caribbean-yachts dotcom)  It is listed on yachtworld and boats.com.  Due to time constraints she is priced to sell quickly.  Thanks to all who have contributed in answering my various questions in the past (ping pong ball).  Don't worry, we intend to continue sailing on Amels, just on OPBs hint hint.   https://www.boats.com/sailing-boats/1999-amel-super-maramu-2000-7029684/?refSource=standard%20listing

If you end-for-end your chain, be sure to let it all out for inspection every couple of months.  A year after I did it, I had a solid ball of rusted chain in my locker that took a pneumatic chisel and 40 man-hours to remove.  When the used end of mine starts to get rusty, I’ll have the whole thing regalvanized and then turn it around to use the other end for a while.

Alan, that sounds like good performance from your anchor chain.  We just purchased the same this past November.

Can you give me an idea of how much you use your anchor each year and where you are located to help me with my expectations.

We are in the Caribbean, living on our boat for about 7 months a season, spending about 70% of the time on anchor and moving anchorage about 20 times per season (about once per week).

Morning John,

Spoke to some people here in the marina and apparently the MARAMU for sale is NOT the boat from the South American lady (Magdalena ??). Seems to be a different MARAMU.

Not sure it is the same boat; can very well be.

I have met & know the lady you mention but have not seen her since I left NEW CAL 3 ½ months ago.

The boat listed on the bulletin board is at this moment the (rough) equivalent of USD150K.

The male partner died his lady from South America had inherited and was selling it;  but wanted an unrealistic price…………high by even Noumea standards. Ports were uv damaged and needed replacing. Motor was fairly new having been replaced in Japan. Two years sitting in tropical sun will also have taken a toll on running rigging etc.

Maybe price expectations by now have moved to a more realistic level…………..if it’s the same boat

Hi Mark & Nicky,

I’m in a similar position, based in the UK and interested in purchasing an Amel, not sure of the exact model yet but likely a SM.

I’m almost 100% sure that there are no SM's here in the UK.

There are a couple of Maramu’s for sale in London and here in Scotland there is one Amel, a Maramu called Clova based at Ardfern marina. Clova is available for charter through Argyll Yachts.

You’ll be totally amazed when you finally get on board an Amel. They are built like tanks :o)

Your best bet would be a wee trip to the South of France where there are lots of Amel’s on the market and you can see and compare the range. I was initially looking at a Maramu or Santorin but when you get on board a SM, the extra space really impressed me!

Good luck with your search.

Best wishes,

Scott

If any SM 2000 owner is in the UK would you mind if we came and had a look? We would be very grateful. Many thanks in advance.

Re: Greasing autoprop

Beaute Olivier

Hello Ahmet,

I checked SM 246 and it had an AUTOPROP with open bearings, so, you probably have the same kind. Unlike the later models, which have sealed bearings with steel balls, your prop has stainless steel balls on open tracks. Although they don't really need it, you may grease these balls from the outside. This will prevent too much scaling on the balls.
If you feel the bearings make a grinding noise, then it's time to replace the balls and tracks, which you can order from Brunton's. The stainless steel balls don't stand wear as much as the steel ones (which rust, nobody's perfect, that's why they are sealed with grease nipples for renewing the grease).
No grease nipples on the first model of the Autoprop.

Good luck.

FYI (everybody) hull #259 has an Autoprop with sealed bearings, the change is around 250.

Re: Pump running

Beaute Olivier

Hello Pat,

according to your hull number, you should have a foot pump in the galley as a back-up.
In order to use it, you need to move a three way valve under the galley sink. It happens sometimes that this valve moves or is moved unwillingly if you hit it. What happens then is that an internal leak is created, but you don't see it as the water from the electric pump (and the pressurized circuit) is returning through the foot pump into the tank. This what I call a "ghost leak".

Check the valve under the galley sink...

Yes, all marine freshwater systems have a one-way valve, which allows the system to hold pressure. Sometimes this valve will fail, and more often it will get a piece of debris lodged in it.

Re: Greasing autoprop

That grease nipple was 1/8" BPT on a 2002 AutoProp.

AutoProp H6 propellers changed around 1998 (don't have exact date, maybe you should check with Brutons with your serial number). The bearings required grease only after the change. Email david@... for the most accurate information, and, if needed, you can order the grease fitting and new bearings from him. Include your serial number which is stamped on the propeller.

Hi Pat,
I had the same problem on my SM once, I just couldn’t find a leak. Turned out that the 3 way valve at the filter for the water maker didn’t close 100%. I simply installed a cock before the filter, problem solved....

I have been lurking on this site for a few weeks now because I am almost sure that my wife and I want to buy a Super Maramu 2000.

I say almost sure because we haven’t actually seen one yet in the flesh. I have watched and re watched many boat tours on YouTube but we would really like to see one for real before we commit to searching for one.

If any SM 2000 owner is in the UK would you mind if we came and had a look? We would be very grateful. Many thanks in advance.

Steve,

You should also post this email in Yachts For Sale, which is a subgroup of the Amel yacht Owners Group.
