The original stripes are polyester resin/gel- coat. They were painstakingly applied by hand with paint brushes. Throughout the production of the Sharki, Maramu, Mango, Fango, Santorin and Super Maramu, these stipes were applied by a mainly female crew who were deemed to have more patience and manual dexterity than their male counterparts. These were considered the primary requirements for this job. Back then, political correctness wasn’t even a consideration, especially in France.

Re: Amel 54 Manual - Owner and User
Whilst on this topic ... what I would really like to get is a soft copy of the A54 Manual Appendices in English.
My original hard copy of the manuals is in German for the original owner. I don’t read German very well. I have soft copies of the English Manuals, but not the Appendices. If anyone has a soft copy of the appendices I’d love to receive a copy. In the meantime, I notice there are no English manuals in the folder that Roque has provided, so I’ll try to fix that 😎 Cheers Dean SY Stella A54-154 Sent from my iPhone X

AFAIK, Steve (Aloha) is the only SM to have done this. We know his boat and we can assure you it looks and feel great underfoot. However, if you wait until Steve sees this post, I’m certain he’ll chime in with his 2 year long experience. Cheers,

I too have a couple of questions, who have used the slip resistant deck paint product and if you have, how have you found cleaning the deck from dust, salt or even spills from fish cleaning. There are a couple of products here in Australia, Norglass and AWLGrip worth consideration however, their options do offer non-slip or otherwise.

Hi Gary,

I did my deck stripes in white: makes deck somewhat cooler underfoot, reduces heat down below too. However, mine being an old girl, I’ll grind down the entire deck to make it level with the bottom of the stripes, then an epoxy coat in white with an anti slip on the top. Just as Steve Davis did on Aloha. It is gorgeous. (Disclaimer: I’ll pay a yard in Malaysia to do the work) :-)

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Painting deck stripes - how much paint is needed??
Hi Bill and all:
I am preparing to re-paint my deck stripes "AGAIN". This will be my third time (have owned the boat since new in 2001). I previously used Interlux Brightside paint and it just does not hold up to Caribbean sun. About 4-5 years before it oxidizes and starts to look shabby. I am considering using Awlgrip this go round but it will be much more work and I am investigating the "pot life" (i.e. useful working time) to see if it is practical to use in the pin-striping tool. I would appreciate any feedback on the durability of the various types of paint and also others thoughts about the cosmetics of switching to the cream color for the stripes. Changing things on Liahona is a heavy lift for me, yet that said, having just changed the boot-stripe to Desert Sand has been a great change that improved the appearance of the boat both to myself and many others who have commented on the appearance. Wise advice to me a long time ago was, "never be the first to adopt a change and never be the last". Opinions and experiences of all types are invited. Re: Engine Repower for Super Maramu
That is an incredible amount of money, and as the others say, I'd RUN elsewhere. And probably name and shame, but that's just me; I'm a vindictive little snot :)
We have a 1991 SM which we just repowered in Mallorca. Had a few engine choices, but ended up taking the original Perkins Prima M80T and reboring it (first oversize) and refurbishing it with everything new (like the turbo) or reconditioned/tested that was still fine. We did this because after a lot of research, for the value and ease of working on it anywhere in the world, and the lack of electronics and common rail problems of the newer engines (esp the volvo D3), the Prima seemed like it can't be beat (as long as you have a good one to start from). Total cost, about 8000 euros, installed. And yes, what the others say, the older C drives aren't made to take 110 horses. Ours was replaced with one that could, but still didn't go up to the yanmar because of price and need....the prima is plenty for this boat in my opinion.

I cannot speak for the 4jh4hte - just the 4jh3hte. Getting the components is easy, If you have a 175 amp alternator it is already isolated.
The time to change over the engine to an isolated ground should take less than a day if is wired similarly to the 4jh3hte. Fair Winds Eric Kimberlite Amel Super Maramu #376

it can be modified, but is a lot of work... or you can order an isolated version still.

Hi Bill, Kimberlite is 100% Raymarine and my GPS is not listed on their no problem list. I am well aware how the gps units function , however I am mostly concerned about a sequential progression of problems following the date change. Fair Winds Eric

Eric,
I believe you are mostly correct, but let me add something.
Your boat's GPS position is based on the elapsed time for a signal to be received from the satellite by your GPS normally utilizing 3 or more satellites that fall in line-of-sight to your boat. Longitude is based on time, but has no impact on the calculation performed in a Furuno GPS.
The error that was experienced during the last rollover had to do with the "year calculation," but not the difference in signal travel time. I saw a Furuno GP80 (very common on SMs) operating perfectly, but with the wrong year associated with the date and time. I saw another GP80 working perfectly with the correct year. The difference was because of the manufacturing date by Furuno. The later made Furuno had been modified, and this modification compensated for the year issue. The later model Furuno was made in 2002. I certainly do not what will happen with other brands.
I am going to guess that any GPS made after about 2000 will be fine, and if it isn't 100% correct, this situation may only affect the year posted on the screen.

Re: Time change on GPS satellite constellation worldwide
I haven't really investigated this just yet. I'm hoping, as mentioned, that the older equipment will experience a minimum, non-navigational impact.
Also, it's possible that a firmwarue updatecould fix it as well.

Re: Amel 54 Manual - Owner and User
Mark McGovern
I think it should be fine to upload those files. We are currently utilizing 361MB of our allotted 10GB of File Storage space. That 361MB is the sum total of all the files that every member has ever uploaded since 2001! So it has taken 18 years to consume 3.6% of our allocated storage space. Given that, I think it will be OK to upload them despite their large size. If in the future file storage space becomes an issue, we can re-evaluate.

Amel 54 Manual - Owner and User
Roque
Hi I just uploaded, in the files section, an “Amel 54 Manual” set (Owner, User and Options) in Italian. I also have the versions in German, French, Spanish and Portuguese. I uploaded just this one to test. Each language set is around 80 MB. So I ask the moderators: is it ok to upload the other languages, considering the size?

Re: autoprop zinc
Jose, Each time you haulout, you should check the resistance between the propeller and the zincs using a multimeter and a wire to extend the reach. there should be almost no resistance, or in other words, 100% continuity. If you are in the water, you can check between the top of the rudder post and the C Drive. This rudder post check assumes that there is no break inside the rudder, but I think everyone will agree that is a vey remote chance.
