Hi Ian and Judy, I would love to read about all your experiences. Do you have some blogs you can share directly with me, guess we shouldn't load the forum. Or write a book.(seriously) Its an area I have never thought of as a cruisers option and I am fascinated. Kind Regards Danny SM 299 Ocean Pearl

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Insurance
Thanks, Mark, much appreciated. My Pantaenius comes up in April and is only $2200 for east coast US and Bahamas, so we'll likely renew if it doesn't change much. Next year perhaps I'll change, so would appreciate the contact. My email is sangaris at aol dot com.

I also have a really good independent broker who writes policies for Novamar USA, an “A” rated company with a lot of recommendations from members of the OCC. The price is the same as going to Novamar directly. However, he has a direct line to the underwriters and can help work around some issues such as survey or age of rigger etc. I am reluctant to post his contact info publically. Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: First Ever Amel Eastern Caribbean Rally 2019
Hi Bill, much to my surprise, I was able to get somewhere with just my iPad. I’ve created a form to allow people to indicate their preferences and allow you to track and rank them. I can blow away any/all of the responses so go ahead and play with it and give me any suggestions. I will also make you a collaborator but for the moment it probably will be easier if you tell me what to add/modify or delete. I wasn’t sure if you wanted to track guests and if so at each location (might help with getting discounts or reservations) so I’ve left that out for now but could easily add that. Here is the form:
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
You can also see the responses either summarized or by individual here: It probably makes sense to throw a few test responses in there to give you an idea of how helpful each question is to allow you to plan the agenda. When you’re done playing with it and I’ve made all the changes, I’ll blow away all of our test responses and then we can publish the survey and the responses on your webpage. I will look to see if there is some way I can hide the email addresses but I think it’s safe enough hidden away three layers deep on your school site. Finally, these responses are also stored on a separate google spreadsheet so that you can manipulate the data (eg take the email addresses and send updates outside the forum). Let me know what you think. Brent 6S+

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Any Amel owners who have sailed to Chile from Panama?
ianjenkins1946 <ianjudyjenkins@hotmail.com>
Hi James,
We sailed from Panama to Chile in 2002/3 and then spent two seasons in Chile, mainly in and around the Beagle Channel. Can't say enough about it. The best sailing experiences in 40 years of sailing and a Supermaramu is the perfect boat for those conditions.
The standard passage is to leave Panama and head southwest in a wide arc and come back east around about Chiloe. However, friends of ours encouraged us to take the coastal route, against the prevailing wind and Humboldt current. Neither is a problem until
you get to about 40s and even then you just pick your weather. We made about 90 miles good each day and were the only yacht to make the whole passage that year. Panama to Salinas in Ecuador we largely made under engine. It's doldrums country, flat calm for
6 days. We put Pen Azen ashore in Ecuador for 5 months while we backpacked around the country. Then to Peru where we anchored off Callao for a month and then we coast hopped . Very few ports, but every now and then you come across a little north facing bay
where the Clube de Yates ( whose members generally only have little motor boats) will give you a wonderful welcome.
I could write reams about our experiences. Easier to chat if you have lots of questions. Email me on penazen@... if you would like to do so and we can fix a time. We are in London so GMT at the moment.

Re: [Amel Yacht Owners] Re: Possible late Spring Amel Caribbean Rally - INSURANCE
Duane Siegfri
Mark,
Thanks for the informative reply! I thought I attached this to the insurance thread, not sure how it got on the Rally thread... I have not heard of Novamar before, please do send me your contacts information. I'm not happy about the 10 degree hurricane border from Pantaenius. Grenada or the ABC's seem to be a better destination for me. Our rigging is original (14 years old now) so that's going to be an issue, but I'm planning on a replacement this year anyway. Re: 1st UPDATE - First Ever Amel Eastern Caribbean Rally 2019
greatketch@...
I am not at all sure how this fits into the calculations. We’d be interested, but…
We have no idea where we will be in that time frame. Right now we are in full cruising mode, which means we don’t really have a plan—past the next weather front. If we do cross paths with the rally, at that time of year we would certainly be starting to head north, so would not be rallying to the south, just rendezvousing… I guess that puts us in the “interested, but unreliable” category! Hi Bill, Depending on how the wiring of the charger is done. It is probably quite simple to put a couple of diodes in the wires going to the batteries to eliminate this problem. Fair Winds Eric Kimberlite Amel Super Maramu #376

Mark,
Be careful. The battery chargers that charge 2 different voltage banks share the same negative between the two. This will result in the negative of the starting battery being connected to the negative of the house bank.
I think you better check with someone you trust that has knowledge of Amels and DC Voltage before you go in this direction.

Mark & Debbie Mueller
We have a ChargeMaster 24/30-3 & a ChargeMaster 24/100-3. The 30 amp charger is the newer of the two. Mastervolt was introducing a 40 amp version that would charge both the 24 & 12 volt batteries (engine starting and house) but it was not yet available when we had to replace the Xantrex that died and toasted our 12 house batteries.
