Amel Pole Rigging Lines

Well .. I made a big and expensive mistake when looking for some lengths of line last week.  I couldn't back out of it because even though I said "StaySet" I touched "Dyneema" and that's what they cut for me. 

I think I know the answer already, but does anyone have an opinion (well .. I know that answer too :) ) on whether safety would be compromised if the Amel Poles were rigged with a non-stretching line?  I'm debating it as it seems the Poles would need some wiggle room to shift stresses, but conversely the sails themselves do a lot of shock absorption.

At any rate, I'm considering rigging the poles with 8mm Dyneema since I have a lot of it now (and it's in pretty colors) and since the original braided lines are getting pretty old.  Thoughts?

Dear Robin

To my knowledge the Error Message on EVC Number 1,2, etc. are only indicating the number of errors. Does not mean it’s the real message.

There is a trick to go into the OEM mode to get to the real error Messages. But I forgot how it works. You find a video in YouTube how to do. "How to Retrieve EVC-C Display Fault Codes"
In Internet you also find different sides what those messages means. 

I had also fail-code # 1 and by digging in deeper the Real fault was the „mProp valve“ common-rail pressure sensor on my D3-110 iC.

My VP D3 110 suddenly gives me fault codes 1 and 2 and the red light suggests that I have a serious malfunction.

checking the fault codes, 1 means starter motor does not work or is slow (it starts the motor perfectly) and 2 means alternator is not charging, or weakly charging - I measured and this is not true either.

On top of that I get no turbo pressure the EVC tells me, while the Turbo most certainly is running perfectly.

 

Does anybody have had the same problem or migh know what ist could be? The VP guys here seem to be in the dark too.

Agree...we have a common interest .... I'm sure nobody wants to be enemies for whatever reason...we can all agree to disagree on some things, but the value of everyone's contributions to this forum are immeasurable.
 In the last 5 years I have learnt an enormous amount that helps me keep Elyse running day to day, and for that I am grateful.

Espar diesel heating system

Greetings fellows - 

I would like to ask the group of Amel Super Maramu owners for any advice on installing an Espar Diesel heater that I plan to install on my boat.  

I already have the fresh air ventilation system in place with its associated ducting.  

I am contemplating  doing the installation myself, and would like to know if others have installed this system on their own boats.  

I would also like to know about others' experience with any problems with the installation or functioning of the heater.  


Any bits of knowledge or wisdom are appreciated!

I was told by Bowman that I need not buy a spare. They said that the OEM will last 25 years, or longer. They said that the primary failure of this cooler is caused by over-tightening the boot hose clamp.

The in-line Bowman needs more attention than the cooler attached to the transmission because the openings for the seawater flow in the Bowman are very small. The entry end of the Bowman will trap particles and debris that are small enough to get through the sea-chest strainer. It is very easy to clean the Bowman of this debris. It is also very easy to ruin the Bowman by over-tightening the large hose clamps on the entry and exit rubber boots. This same hose clamp, on the entry end is what is opened to remove debris...there is more to the procedure because of the saltwater in the lines and the Bowman heat exchanger.

One reason for the transmission heating up "could be" that your transmission oil cooler is compromised.  You said the dipstick was melted and since there was no leakage of fluid, you assumed that it was still full of transmission fluid.

I had a similiar problem with my Amel SM.  The cooler developed a hole in the cooler tubes that permitted the seawater and the transmission fluid to mix.  Eventually the hole in the cooler tubes was big enough, that the suction from the engine seawater pump sucked the fluid out of the transmission.  Prior to the complete failure of the transmission, the seawater mixed with the transmission fluid and rusted the inner workings of the transmission.  So, in my case, the transmission had to be replaced.

Have you ever noticed that the engine exhaust/water leaves an oil sheen on the water?

Pull some of the fluid out of the transmission and see if it looks right, or is milky or watery.

Here's the thing, if you have to replace the transmission, be sure to replace the transmission cooler.  I'm not sure of a reasonable interval to replace them, but for $200 or so, it's good insurance.  Mine failed at about 2,000 engine hours.

Plastimo water outlet Amel 54

Hello to the group, 
My plastimo wateroutlet in the Cockpit is dripping. Did anyone service this outlet?
I am not on the boat, so I have to know for replacement if it is Plastimo water outlet with straight (62029) or elbow (62030) terminals.

Patrick,

I was told by Bowman that I need not buy a spare. They said that the OEM will last 25 years, or longer. They said that the primary failure of this cooler is caused by over-tightening the boot hose clamp.

The in-line Bowman needs more attention than the cooler attached to the transmission because the openings for the seawater flow in the Bowman are very small. The entry end of the Bowman will trap particles and debris that are small enough to get through the sea-chest strainer. It is very easy to clean the Bowman of this debris. It is also very easy to ruin the Bowman by over-tightening the large hose clamps on the entry and exit rubber boots. This same hose clamp, on the entry end is what is opened to remove debris...there is more to the procedure because of the saltwater in the lines and the Bowman heat exchanger.

One reason for the transmission heating up "could be" that your transmission oil cooler is compromised.  You said the dipstick was melted and since there was no leakage of fluid, you assumed that it was still full of transmission fluid.

I had a similiar problem with my Amel SM.  The cooler developed a hole in the cooler tubes that permitted the seawater and the transmission fluid to mix.  Eventually the hole in the cooler tubes was big enough, that the suction from the engine seawater pump sucked the fluid out of the transmission.  Prior to the complete failure of the transmission, the seawater mixed with the transmission fluid and rusted the inner workings of the transmission.  So, in my case, the transmission had to be replaced.

Have you ever noticed that the engine exhaust/water leaves an oil sheen on the water?

Pull some of the fluid out of the transmission and see if it looks right, or is milky or watery.

Here's the thing, if you have to replace the transmission, be sure to replace the transmission cooler.  I'm not sure of a reasonable interval to replace them, but for $200 or so, it's good insurance.  Mine failed at about 2,000 engine hours.

Volvo Penta D3-110 Problem

My VP D3 110 suddenly gives me fault codes 1 and 2 and the red light suggests that I have a serious malfunction.

checking the fault codes, 1 means starter motor does not work or is slow (it starts the motor perfectly) and 2 means alternator is not charging, or weakly charging - I measured and this is not true either.

On top of that I get no turbo pressure the EVC tells me, while the Turbo most certainly is running perfectly.

 

Does anybody have had the same problem or migh know what ist could be? The VP guys here seem to be in the dark too.
