But as I am a curious person, can someone e-mail me about this secret place?

Hi Stephan,
Sorry for interrupting at the rudder packing again….

then you put a lot of brain and craft into finding so many hiding places. Hats off!
It's like Easter here in Germany: you hide chocolate eggs in the garden, then the children can look for them and eat them.
Can you share your recommendations with us here in the forum? We do not want to trade drugs, weapons or ammunition. But we don't want to leave a good watch or iPad lying around on the NavTable either.
Thanks for your support. Or do any other members here on the forum have any other tips?

I should be working on the rudder packing gland . . . but . . .

Instead, I made a list of over two dozen places to hide objects which could then only be found by a dog or an experienced Amel owner, but can be retrieved by the person who knows where to look in under a minute.

My list doesn’t include hiding things in plane sight, like slipping an iPad between books on a shelf, or putting spare cash in the trash can under the plastic liner.

I am with Mark on the question of theft. Thieves want an easy kill, so leave a couple of twenties on the chart table, and stow the “valuables” out of sight. The thief will have more cash in pocket than he’ll get from pawning your used stuff, and you’ll be spared the much greater expense of replacing it (think: cell phone, iPad, binoculars, or VHF radio).

Just a thought . . . Now everyone back to work . . . And would someone please look at my questions on the rudder packing gland?

Thanks,

Boaters invoiced for damage to dock during a hurricane

Mark & Debbie Mueller

I read the attached article regarding invoices slip renters are receiving due to the damage caused be Hurricane Isaias.  This could be an expanding risk to boat owners in the future beyond the direct risk of the storm.

Bill Rouse advised me that "This is not the first time. NIKIMAT was charged for damage to the marina in St. Martin".  This is a risk that might be worth further investigation with your insurance carrier.

Re: Jordan series drogue.

eric freedman

Hi,

I do not know how the cleats on your Amel are configured.

However, on the Amel Super Maramu the bridle of the drogue must go between the

the backstays. If you run them outside you will rip out the SSB antenna.

When the bridle is inside the backstays you cannot tighten one to change the direction of the boat

This  will deform the backstay. We just live with however the boat sits to the sea. We also add chafe gear to the bridle where it is near the backstays. We monitor the chafe gear every hour.

It is a bad idea to connect the bridle to the winches. They are not made to take a shock load and might be ripped out of the coaming. (That was a quote from Mr. Jordan)

I also know you reinforced your rear cleats too. I don’t think we will do that. So considering a yoke between two either two cleats on each side or a cleat and the main winch for possible steering. Any thoughts on that?  Negatives or positives?  Who has thought this through and has a solution other than reinforcement of the rear cleat?  Or is that the only safe method?

Thanks Bill!
i found a sleeve with the inner diameter tolerans 29,31-41, guess not to difficult to adjust the shaft to fit, then use a lip seal with inner diameter of 29,5 mm. had a closer look and found that the leak is at the other end through the screws on the lid, should be easier to fix, i just to for granted it was the shaft, will save the speedi sleeve for later

I looked to see if I took any pictures of those chocks as I remember looking at them (and wondering what they were) while onboard Kimberlite at the dock in Bermuda but I think that I was more interested in talking with Eric and his crew about the modifications he did for the JSD and their trip in from New York than taking pictures as I don’t see any in my photos bucket from that trip.

Re: sailing from Martinique to Newport

Bob Chapman

Can US citizens enter Martinique? Actually, my wife is French and American, and we’re able to go to France as long as we travel together.

While I have an ASA 104 certificate, we both have limited sailing experience. And we would only go as a couple, so you would need to have accommodations for both. I have the week’s experience with getting my training, and we sailed in a challenging storm from southern Spain to Gibraltar.

Could be interesting if our characteristics fit your needs.

The company Ultra Marine offers me a particularly attractive price for a group purchase of 10 anchors.

If you are interested in this anchor, I suggest you join this group purchase on http: // www.cottonbay.fr/U_a.php

I specify that the commercial relationship will be between you and Ultramarine, I am only offering this possibility of group purchase here.
