Jose, we purchased a Tefal IH2108 in Martinique. We can set it on the dishwasher, counter or on top of a curting board in the stove top. Nothing special about it. We just wanted something to try.
It has 7 power levels that go up to 2100 watts. 

For rice in the pressure cooker we start at power level 4 for about four minute to bring it up to pressure and then reduce to level 2 for two to three more minutes, then off. Set the pressure cooker to the side for about 15 minutes while you stir fry some meat and veggies and when that's done you have dinner. All uses about 10-20 AH of 24v energy.

Not really doing too well; after leaving AMELIT 1st week December 2019 I have not been able to get back AND I read a couple of days ago that the OZZIE Finance Ministry Simon BIRMINGHAM announced that AUSTRALIA FEDERAL GOVERNMENT is unlikely to reopen the border until the END of 2022 (TwentyTWO) at least!!!!

 

Kind of a bummer as I had hoped for Sep/Oct this year.

 

360 HIGHFIELD: I didn’t check any of that; when I bought the dinghy I knew it was only for 2 or 3 weeks until I got my OCTENDER. Just needed a dinghy to go ashore in MARE, TANA and the other islands until the OCT arrived but good enough to sell quickly w/o losing too much money when I sold it in VANUATU. I managed losing no money at all as I saved the buyer the VANUATU import duty & sales taxes.

 

NEW CAL main to MARE and then TANA and between the VANUATU islands as well as NEW CAL to AUSTRALIA are short passages. For longer/serious crossings I also have the tender upside down across the aft cabin deck.

In reference to below I suggest you make sure that there is no variance at all between the pick-up points of the dinghy and the rollers. Even using a correct length horizontal line between the 2 hoisting lines forcing them in the right (directly down) angle to the rollers I still experienced with a (temporary – you know my dinghies saga) brand-new 360 HIGHFIELD, in rough seas (over 35knts wind) & in open ocean, the stern davit line break due to chafing and, inexplicably, the dinghy was able to worm itself out the additional (2 crossed under the hull as well as 1 each directly from P to SB on bow and stern) safety straps causing the stern hanging almost into the water.

 

Of course late afternoon/early evening with still some daylight but I wonder if we would have noticed if this happened during the night.

Can assure you NOT a fun experience!!!

 

This was crossing from MARE (NEW CALEDONIA) to TANNA (VANUATU).

I used to have the 10’ 6” Highfield and loved it you can put it longways with the rear pontoons on either side of the shower hatch or across either way fits.  If using the winter enclosure must be placed across does partially block part of the deck but really no issue.

the Highfield CL 360 fits almost perfectly to the Simpson davits. There is only a difference of approx. 4 cm inbetween the pick-up points on the tender and the rollers on the davits.

But you could also adjust this perfectly with small changes to the dinghy.

The CL 360 will certainly start to plane with a 20 HP outboard motor and 4 people in the boat.

With six people on board, we were very quickly with the new Yamaha 25PS ...

At the stern there are also two attachment points for toys or other things to pull.

We have had many dinghies from Zodiac and other manufacturers ... the Highfield seems to be better in processing than many similarly priced boats... especially the aluminum hull.

I know some blue water sailors who have changed to a Highfield and are very enthusiastic.

Currently we stay for the winter period in the northern Adriatic sea. There and in many places in the Mediterranean we had to moore with stern first. Sometimes it´s not easy... you have to be careful with the dinghy. But it doesn´t matter if the dinghy is 3,40 or 3,60 long.

this year we bought a Highfield CL360 in Hypalon. It fits perfectly on the AMEL davits (Cooney Simpson).

Hypalon should be chosen if the dinghy has been in salt water for a longer period and is exposed to strong sunlight.

We have a powerful outboard motor (Yamaha 25PS) with which the CL 360 can drive perfectly over long distances, even with several people. The aluminum hull is very light (the CL360 weighs only approx. 70kg) and thanks to the good V-shape it drives very well over the waves, even at higher speeds.

Incidentally, the new Yamaha 25PS still fits in the aft locker on the outboard motor bracket ... a perfect place for the outboard motor for longer sea passages or winter storage.

In addition, the CL360 fits perfectly (upside down) on the aft deck ... also for longer sea passages or winter storage.

We are very happy with this dinghy choice.

  5. What other tender lines have you used that you could recommend?

Hi Ken, we bought an induction job and we are starting to like it for certain things. Especially in hot climates as there is so much less wasted heat in the galley.  Start with the job and see how you like it.

     We had two made up by sparcraft in South Africa  when our pole was damaged kept one as  spare,   we just gave them the broken one and they replicated it their machine shop in a couple of hours .

Otherwise if the batteries are around the 50% mark I may occasionally run the genset if I’m baking something for longer than 30mins and even then I’ll try and coincide this with running water maker or hot water and very rarely aircon etc 

….. 

the lithium set up is for me an excellent solution especially on anchor here in West Indies, but you do need a strong, consistent  and reliable way to charge them. I use a combination of solar (1.3KW now and looking to add another 500-600wts and a Silent wind) I try and only use genset when it’s been very overcast / rainy for a few days and batteries are low, tends to be in the evenings for obvious reasons. 

If I do motor between anchorages then it’s possible that i don’t run the genset for weeks as long as the weather has been kind. On average  I probably run the genset once a week for around 60mins. Once A month I have to balance the batteries, so will run the genset to fully charge the battery bank, which according to BB balances the bank efficiently, but I tend to try and do that if I’m in a Marina or having to motor for whatever reason. 

I would like a hydro generator for longer passages, especially the Wattamdsea Pod 600… but I don’t think the cost / efficiency/ hassle to to fit algorithm  makes sense right now. 

I think I would question the validity of the investment for Lithium if one spends a great deal of time on shore power.

In reference to below I suggest you make sure that there is no variance at all between the pick-up points of the dinghy and the rollers. Even using a correct length horizontal line between the 2 hoisting lines forcing them in the right (directly down) angle to the rollers I still experienced with a (temporary – you know my dinghies saga) brand-new 360 HIGHFIELD, in rough seas (over 35knts wind) & in open ocean, the stern davit line break due to chafing and, inexplicably, the dinghy was able to worm itself out the additional (2 crossed under the hull as well as 1 each directly from P to SB on bow and stern) safety straps causing the stern hanging almost into the water.

 

Of course late afternoon/early evening with still some daylight but I wonder if we would have noticed if this happened during the night.

Can assure you NOT a fun experience!!!

 

This was crossing from MARE (NEW CALEDONIA) to TANNA (VANUATU).

I used to have the 10’ 6” Highfield and loved it you can put it longways with the rear pontoons on either side of the shower hatch or across either way fits.  If using the winter enclosure must be placed across does partially block part of the deck but really no issue.

the Highfield CL 360 fits almost perfectly to the Simpson davits. There is only a difference of approx. 4 cm inbetween the pick-up points on the tender and the rollers on the davits.

But you could also adjust this perfectly with small changes to the dinghy.

The CL 360 will certainly start to plane with a 20 HP outboard motor and 4 people in the boat.

With six people on board, we were very quickly with the new Yamaha 25PS ...

At the stern there are also two attachment points for toys or other things to pull.

We have had many dinghies from Zodiac and other manufacturers ... the Highfield seems to be better in processing than many similarly priced boats... especially the aluminum hull.

I know some blue water sailors who have changed to a Highfield and are very enthusiastic.

Currently we stay for the winter period in the northern Adriatic sea. There and in many places in the Mediterranean we had to moore with stern first. Sometimes it´s not easy... you have to be careful with the dinghy. But it doesn´t matter if the dinghy is 3,40 or 3,60 long.

this year we bought a Highfield CL360 in Hypalon. It fits perfectly on the AMEL davits (Cooney Simpson).

Hypalon should be chosen if the dinghy has been in salt water for a longer period and is exposed to strong sunlight.

We have a powerful outboard motor (Yamaha 25PS) with which the CL 360 can drive perfectly over long distances, even with several people. The aluminum hull is very light (the CL360 weighs only approx. 70kg) and thanks to the good V-shape it drives very well over the waves, even at higher speeds.

Incidentally, the new Yamaha 25PS still fits in the aft locker on the outboard motor bracket ... a perfect place for the outboard motor for longer sea passages or winter storage.

In addition, the CL360 fits perfectly (upside down) on the aft deck ... also for longer sea passages or winter storage.

We are very happy with this dinghy choice.

I recall a discussion about a hole in this bulkhead where wires and pipes pass through. It is supposed to be located low outboard of the bulkhead on the port side . It is supposed to be visible from the forward saloon seat.

Assuming the forward compartment is flooded it follows that water pressure will aid in sealing the door such that the crossbar would be redundant (other than to seal its own bolt hole). Dogging it so tight as to deform the door and cause gaps at the top seems unnecessary - a gentle snug should do.  That being said, my door has a perpendicular stiffening piece of wood and the entire door engages the seal evenly when closed and dogged (haven't tried to dog it with great force).

My aft door only seals at the bottom and sides; the top is open and there is no crossbar. If the aft compartment is flooded water pressure would keep the door sealed.

if the main salon is flooded, you likely have problems of a "Titanic" nature.
