 On our SM the sonic speed,  the one with the two sensors,  that is connected to Hydra 200 is giving zero speed on the hydra 2000 monitor. 
This was probably due to the loss of the neoprene cap of the aft  sensor . Unfortunately this probe is out of production from long time.

Please Did  you hknow how to  repair it ?  Do you know how replace the cable and the aft sensor?

She is being registered in Ireland. She was previously registered in the UK but with the UK leaving the EU we wanted to protect her EU VAT paid status and we couldn't get a straight answer from anyone so it made sense to move the registration.

Hi Ryan and Kelly. All early Amel Super Maramu boats had stainless steel mufflers and the one in the picture of your boat is indeed original equipment. The change to Vetus plastic occurred when the Yanmar was made standard equipment.

 

The change was made to Vetus primarily to get a reduction in engine room noise. The plastic Vetus mufflers “pant/expand and contract” as each cycle of raw cooling water is injected into and blown out of the muffler which makes the woosh-woosh sound that is heard at the exhaust exit on the hull side, The vetus mufflers were wedged in with a layer of plastic foam on each side and tied into position, This allowed them to wiggle around with no hard contact areas that muffler could make music with. The other advantage of the Vetus is they are non-corrosive and last almost forever. The major disadvantage is that the Vetus will melt rather quickly if it does not get the raw water cooling supply as it comes out of the diesel’s cooling system.

 

I had a client down here who wanted to replace the stainless one with a exact copy as Amel didn’t have spares. The fabricator cut the bottom off and was able to see the details he needed.  $ 700 in 2001 and the guy who did it has retired .

That's original. I don't have any info. I think I would eliminate it, although it would be convenient to keep the pressure gauge. I think modern pumps regulate pressure good enough.

I don't know, but I can guess.

I think Amel used that same "mechanical furl" gearbox with some vertical electric furling motors (later model 54 main furler). This may be the reason the drain holes were taken away.

Hi Thomas;

 

We had the same stiffening within a year of purchasing Kokomo. It got progressively worse to a point that we felt we may be damaging the gears by placing the amount of force required to furl and unfurl. I removed the gear box and found, as you did, a lot of water inside the box. We were in a situation that we did not have enough time to try and figure out how to get into the gear box and find a permanent solution. We drained it, let it dry out in the sun for a day and sprayed a good amount CorrosionX inside a temporary measure. That was four years ago and the furler has been super smooth since.

Hello,

As the old B&G Hydra system gave up on our 54, and also the sonic speed system failed. I did not see a reasonable way to go on and repair the old system. 
So we renewed the windvane and use Triton2 instruments. 
To replace the sonic speed sensor, we choosed the Airmar DST800 tridata sensor. It fits in the through hull of the old deapth sensor and givs all, speed, deapth, sea temperature. 
With that renewal comes an NMEA2k bus and all the old Hydra central cpu and extension processor and all the wiring goes off. 
In that way we did not need to drill a new throughull and keapt the compfortable sonic speed without paddle wheel.

Two years later, I audited them again, and again the same 80/90 gear oil was being used by Amel. I took the below photo of the oil being used by Amel. Note the red circle to the left. There was a PVC pipe, valve, and hose attached to this container. The Amel technician placed the container on the cockpit floor, ran the hose to the C-Drive reservoir, and opened the tap. The exact amount of oil was in the container. I apologize that I did not get a better photo of the PVC pipe and hose, but I am sure that you get the idea.

About 4-5 years ago Amel revised the type of oil for the Amel C-Drive to 80/90 Gear Oil
